नारद उवाच-
Naarada said -
अथ दैत्यसुता: सर्वे श्रुत्वा तदनुवर्णितम् ।

जगृहुर्निरवद्यत्वान्नैव गुर्वनुशिक्षितम् ॥१॥


अथ दैत्य-सुता: सर्वे
then, Daitya's sons all
श्रुत्वा तत्-अनुवर्णितम्
hearing his (Prahlaada's) description
जगृहु:-निरवद्यत्वात्-
accepted (because of) its faultlessness
न-एव गुरु-अनुशिक्षितम्
not even the preceptors' wrong teachings

Then, all the sons of the demons, on hearing the descriptions given by Prahlaada, accepted that due to its faultlessness, and not the wrong teachings of the preceptors.


अथाचार्यसुतस्तेषां बुद्धिमेकान्तसंस्थिताम् ।

आलक्ष्य भीतस्त्वरितो राज्ञ आवेदयद् यथा ॥२॥


अथ-आचार्य-सुत:-तेषाम्
then, the preceptor's son, their
बुद्धिम्-एकान्त संस्थिताम्
minds singularly intent
आलक्ष्य भीत:-त्वरित:
perceiving, alarmed, hastily
राज्ञे आवेदयत् यथा
to the king reported as it was

Then, the preceptor's son having perceived their singularly intent minds, fixed on devotion, was alarmed and hastily proceeded to report the matter, as it is, to the king.


श्रुत्वातदप्रियं दैत्यो दु:सहं तनयानयम् ।

कोपावेशचलद्गात्र: पुत्रं हन्तुं मनो दधे ॥३॥


श्रुत्वा-तत्-अप्रियम् दैत्य:
hearing that unwelcome (news)
दु:सहम् तत्-अनयम्
the demon, unbearable that misdemeanour
कोप-आवेश-चलत्-गात्र:
by anger overcome, shivering body
पुत्रम् हन्तुम् मन: दधे
son to kill, mind made up

Hearing that unwelcome and unbearable news, the demon Hiranyakashipu's body shook, overcome by rage, due to his son's misdemeanour, and he made up his mind to kill him.


क्षिप्त्वा परुषया वाचा प्रह्लादमतदर्हणम् ।

आहेक्षमाण: पापेन तिरश्चीनेन चक्षुषा ॥४॥


क्षिप्त्वा परुषया वाचा
reproaching with harsh words
प्रह्लादम्-अतत्-अर्हणम्
Prahlaada, not of it deserving
आह-ईक्षमाण: पापेन
said, looking with sinful
तिरश्चीनेन चक्षुषा
and crooked eyes

He reproached Prahlaada with harsh words, which he did not deserve and looked at him with sinful wicked crooked eyes.


प्रश्रयावनतं दान्तं बद्धाञ्जलिमवस्थितम् ।

सर्प: पदाहत इव श्वसन्प्रकृतिदारुण: ॥५॥


प्रश्रय-अवनतम् दान्तम्
humbly bowing, peaceful
बद्ध-अञ्जलिम्-अवस्थितम्
joined palms, standing
सर्प: पद-आहत इव
serpent by foot struck like
श्वसन्-प्रकृति-दारुण:
breathing (hissing) by nature cruel

Prahlaada, stood humbly with his head bowed peacefully, and palms joined, even as cruel by nature, Hiranyakashipu was breathing heavily like a hissing serpent hit by the foot.


हे दुर्विनीत मन्दात्मन्कुलभेदकराधम ।

स्तब्धं मच्छासनोद्धूतं नेष्य़े त्वाद्य यमक्षयम् ॥६॥


हे दुर्विनीत मन्द-आत्मन्-
O Unruly! stupid wretch,
कुल-भेद-कर-अधम
family breaker, lowly,
स्तब्धम् मत्-शासन-उद्धूतम्
staunchly my orders ignoring
नेष्य़े त्वा-अद्य यम-क्षयम्
will send you today to Yama's abode

'O Unruly stupid wretch, lowly, family breaker, you have staunchly ignored my orders. I will send you to Yama's abode today.'


क्रुद्धस्य यस्य कम्पन्ते त्रयो लोका: सहेश्वरा: ।

तस्य मेऽभीतवन्मूढ शासनं किम्बलोऽत्यगा: ॥७॥


क्रुद्धस्य यस्य कम्पन्ते
by angered whose tremble
त्रय: लोका: सह-ईश्वरा:
the three worlds, along with the guardians
तस्य मे-अभीत-वत्-मूढ
of that me, fearless like idiot
शासनम् किम्-बल:-अत्यगा:
rule on what strength, have shun

'By whose being angered the three worlds along with their guardians tremble, of that mine command, you, like a fearless idiot have shunned.'


प्रह्लाद उवाच -
Prahlaada said -
न केवलं मे भवतश्च राजन् स वै बलं बलिनां चापरेषाम् ।

परेऽवरेऽमी स्थिरजङ्गमा ये ब्रह्मादयो येन वशं प्रणीता: ॥८॥


न केवलम् मे भवत:-च
not only my, your and
राजन् स: वै बलम्
O King! He indeed is the strength
बलिनाम् च-अपरेषाम्
of powerful and other
परे-अवरे-अमी स्थिर-
high and low these inanimate
जङ्गमा: ये ब्रह्म-आदय:
and animate, those from Brahmaa and others
येन वशम् प्रणीता:
by Whom in control are taken

'O King! Not only mine, He is your strength also, in fact of other powerful beings also. All high and low, inanimate and animate creatures starting from Brahmaa, by Whom are taken under control.'


स: ईश्वर: काल उरुक्रमोऽसावोज: सह: सत्त्वबलेन्द्रियात्मा ।

स एव विश्वं परम: स्वशक्तिभि: सृजत्यवत्यत्ति गुणत्रयेश: ॥९॥


स: ईश्वर: काल उरुक्रम:-
He, The (supreme) Ruler, is The Kaala (Time), The mighty,
असौ-ओज: सह: सत्त्व-
this He is The power, along with mental and
बल-इन्द्रिय-आत्मा
physical strength, the senses and The Soul
स: एव विश्वम् परम:
He alone is the world, The Supreme
स्व-शक्तिभि: सृजति-अवति-
by His potency creates, protects and
अत्ति गुण-त्रय-ईश:
devours, The Gunas' three's Controller

'He, The (supreme) Ruler, is The Kaala (Time) The mighty. This He, is The power, along with mental and physical strength, the senses and The Soul. He alone is the world, The Supreme, by His potency creates, protects and devours, and is The Controller of the three Gunas.


जह्यासुरं भावमिमं त्वमात्मन: समं मनो धत्स्व न सन्ति विद्विष: ।

ऋतेऽजितादात्मन उत्पथस्थितात् तद्धि ह्यनन्तस्य महत् समर्हणम् ॥१०॥


जहि-आसुरम् भावम्-इमम्
abandon demonic disposition this
त्वम्-आत्मन: समम् मन:
you of yours equipoised mind
धत्स्व न सन्ति विद्विष:
keep, not are enemies
ऋते-अजितात्-आत्मन:
except unsubdued mind
उत्पथ-स्थितात् तत्-धि
in evil ways staying, that mind
हि-अनन्तस्य महत् समर्हणम्
indeed of The Infinite's great worship

'You abandon this demonic disposition of yours, and keep an equipoised mind. There are no enemies, except the unsubdued mind which stays on, on evil ways. Having an equipoised mind is itself a great worship of The Infinite.'


दस्यून्पुरा षण्ण विजित्य लिम्पतो मन्यन्त एके स्वजिता दिशो दश ।

जितात्मनो ज्ञस्य समस्य देहिनां साधो: स्वमोहप्रभवा: कुत: परे ॥११॥


दस्यून्-पुरा षट्-न विजित्य
the robbers, first, six, not conquering,
लिम्पत: मन्यन्ते एके
the plunderers considers oneself
स्वजिता: दिश: दश
by one self conquered the quarters ten
जित-आत्मन: ज्ञस्य
(who has) conquered self, the knower
समस्य देहिनाम् साधो:
as equal all embodied beings, of that pious soul
स्व-मोह-प्रभवा: कुत: परे
of one's own ignorance born, where of the enemies

Without first having conquered the (inward) six plundering robbers, one considers himself to have conquered the ten directions. Where can there be enemies to the pious soul, who has conquered himself and knows all embodied beings as equal and so does not have any enemies born of his own ignorance.


हिरण्यकशिपु: उवाच -
Hiranyakashipu said -
व्यक्तं त्वं मर्तुकामोऽसि योऽतिमात्रं विकत्थसे ।

मुमूर्षूणां हि मन्दात्मन् ननु स्युर्विप्लवा गिर: ॥१२॥


व्यक्तम् त्वम्
evidently, you
मर्तु-काम:-असि
death desiring are
य:-अतिमात्रम् विकत्थसे
who very much is blabbering
मुमूर्षूणाम् हि
(those) wanting to die only
मन्द-आत्मन्
O dim witted One!
ननु स्यु:-विप्लवा: गिर:
certainly become of incoherent speech

O dim witted One! Evidently, you are wanting to die, as you blabber so much. Certainly, those who desire to die, their speech becomes incoherent.


यस्त्वया मन्दभाग्योक्तो मदन्यो जगदीश्वर: ।

क्वासौ यदि स सर्वत्र कस्मात् स्तम्भे न दृश्यते ॥१३॥


य:-त्वया मन्द-भाग्य-उक्त:
Who, by you, O wretched One! Mentioned
मत्-अन्य: जगदीश्वर:
me besides, the world's Lord
क्व-असौ यदि स: सर्वत्र
where is He, if He everywhere (is)
कस्मात् स्तम्भे न दृश्यते
wherefore, in the pillar is not seen

O Wretched One! The One Whom you mentioned, other than me, The Lord of the universe, where is He? Wherefore is He not seen to be in the pillar?


सोऽहं विकत्थमानस्य शिर: कायाद्-हरामि ते ।

गोपायेत हरिस्त्वाद्य यस्ते शरणमीप्सितम् ॥१४॥


स:-अहम् विकत्थमानस्य
that I, of the blubbering's
शिर: कायात्-हरामि ते
head, from body will severe, yours
गोपायेत हरि:-त्वा-अद्य
may protect Shree Hari, you today,
य:-ते शरणम्-ईप्सितम्
Who, your asylum is sought

'That I, will sever the head from the body of your blabbering self. May that Shree Hari protect you today, Who is sought as asylum by you.'


एवं दुरुक्तैर्मुहुरर्दयन्-रुषा सुतं महाभागवतं महासुर: ।

खड्गं प्रगृह्योत्पतितो वरासनात् स्तम्भं तताडातिबल: स्वमुष्टिना ॥१५॥


एवम् दुरुक्तै:-मुहु:-
like this, abusing again and again
अर्दयन्-रुषा सुतम्
(and) tormenting in anger the son
महा-भागवतम् महा-असुर:
the great devotee, the mighty demon
खड्गम् प्रगृह्य-उत्पतित:
sword taking, sprang from
वरासनात् स्तम्भम् तताड-
the throne, the pillar hit
अति-बल: स्वमुष्टिना
very powerful, by his fist

The mighty demon, in this way tormented his son, the great devotee by abusive words, and taking out his sword, hit the pillar with his fist, with great force.


तदैव तस्मिन् निनदोऽतिभीषणो बभूव येनाण्डकटाहमस्फुटत् ।

यं वै स्वधिष्ण्योपगतं त्वजादय: श्रुत्वा स्वधामाप्ययमङ्ग मेनिरे ॥१६॥


तदा-एव तस्मिन्
then itself, in that (pillar)
निनद:-अति-भीषणो बभूव
sound very terrible happened
येन-अण्डकटाहम्-अस्फुटत्
by which the (cosmic) egg shell cracked
यम् वै स्व-धिष्ण्य-उपगतम्
which indeed, to their own spheres reaching
तु-अज-आदय: श्रुत्वा
indeed Brahmaa and others hearing
स्व-धाम-अप्ययम्-अङ्ग मेनिरे
own abodes dissolution, O Dear! Understood

O Dear Yudhisthira! Then itself, a very terrible sound happened in that pillar, by which the shell of the cosmic egg seemed to be cracked, and it reached the spheres of Brahmaa and others, hearing which they understood their abodes as having been dissolute.


स विक्रमन् पुत्रवधेप्सुरोजसा निशम्य निर्ह्रादमपूर्वमद्भुतम् ।

अन्त: सभायां न ददर्श तत्पदं वितत्रसुर्येन सुरारियूथपा: ॥१७॥


स: विक्रमन् पुत्र-वध-इप्सु:-
he endeavouring, son to slay wanting,
ओजसा निशम्य निर्ह्रादम्-
by his valour, hearing thunder-sound
अपूर्वम्-अद्भुतम्
unprecedented, weird
अन्त: सभायाम् न ददर्श
in the court, did not see
तत्-पदम् वितत्रसु:-येन
its source, were frightened by which
सुरारि-यूथपा:
the gods' enemies' leaders

As he was endeavouring to slay his son by his valour, he heard the unprecedented weird thundering sound, in the court, but did not see its source, by which the leaders of the demons were frightened.


सत्यं विधातुं निजभृत्यभाषितं व्याप्तिं च भूतेष्वखिलेषु चात्मन: ।

अदृश्यतात्यद्भुतरूपमुद्वहन् स्तम्भे सभायां न मृगं न मानुषम् ॥१८॥


सत्यम् विधातुम् निज-भृत्य-
true to prove own servant's
भाषितम् व्याप्तिम् च
utterance, pervasiveness and
भूतेषु-अखिलेषु च-आत्मन:
in the beings all, and of Self
अदृश्यत-अति-अद्भुत-रूपम्-
showed very strange form
उद्वहन् स्तम्भे सभायाम्
appearing in the pillar
न मृगम् न मानुषम्
not beast nor human being

To prove true the utterance of His Own servant, and the Self pervasiveness in all the beings, The Lord appeared in the pillar in the court in a most strange form of neither a beast nor of a human being.


स सत्त्वमेनं परितोऽपि पश्यन् स्तम्भस्य मध्यादनु निर्जिहानम् ।

नायं मृगो नापि नरो विचित्रमहो किमेतन्नृमृगेन्द्ररूपम् ॥१९॥


स: सत्त्वम्-एनम् परित:-अपि
he a creature, this, all around
पश्यन् स्तम्भस्य मध्यात्-
looking, from the pillar's middle
अनु निर्जिहानम्
after coming out
न-अयम् मृग: न-अपि नर:
not this beast, not also human being
विचित्रम्-अहो किम्-एतत्-
strange Oh! what is this,
नृ-मृगेन्द्र-रूपम्
man lion form

As he looked all around, emerging from the middle of the pillar he saw a strange creature and wondered, 'Oh what is this form a man or a lion?'


मीमांसमानस्य समुत्थितोऽग्रतो नृसिंहरूपस्तदलं भयानकम् ।

प्रतप्तचामीकरचण्डलोचनं स्फुरत्सटाकेसरजृम्भिताननम् ॥२०॥


मीमांसमानस्य
trying to figure out
समुत्थित:-अग्रत: नृ-सिंह-रूप:
standing in front, a man lion form,
तत्-अलम् भयानकम्
that quite very fierce
प्रतप्त-चामीकर चण्ड-लोचनम्
molten gold fierce eyes
स्फुरत्-सटाकेसर जृम्भित-आननम्
shivering neck hair, swollen face

As he was figuring out, the quite fierce man-lion form stood in front of him, with very fierce molten gold eyes, swollen face with shivering and dazzling hair and manes.


करालदंष्ट्रं करवालचञ्चलक्षुरान्तजिह्वं भ्रुकुटीमुखोल्बणम् ।

स्तब्धोर्ध्वकर्णं गिरिकन्दराद्भुतव्यात्तास्यनासं हनुभेदभीषणम् ॥२१॥


कराल-दंष्ट्रम् करवाल-चञ्चल
fearful teeth, sword like waving,
क्षुर-अन्त-जिह्वम्
razor's edge like tongue
भ्रुकुटी-मुख-उल्बणम्
by the fierce eyebrows the face was frowning
स्तब्ध-ऊर्ध्व-कर्णम्
motionless erect ears
गिरि-कन्दरा-अद्भुत-
mountain cave like amazing
व्यात्त-आस्य-नासम्
gaping mouth and nostrils
हनु-भेद-भीषणम्
jaws' parting terrible

That form had fearful teeth, tongue wagging like a sword, sharp as a razor's edge, face was frowning with fierce eyebrows, it had motionless and erect ears, amazing mountain cave like gaping mouth and nostrils, and the parting of the jaws looked terrible.


दिविस्पृशत्कायमदीर्घपीवरग्रीवोरुवक्ष:स्थलमल्पमध्यमम् ।

चन्द्रांशुगौरैश्छुरितं तनूरुहैर्विष्वग्भुजानीकशतं नखायुधम् ॥२२॥


दिवि-स्पृशत्-कायम्-
the skies touching body,
अदीर्घ-पीवर-ग्रीवा-
short thick neck,
उरु-वक्ष:स्थलम्-अल्प-मध्यमम्
a broad chest, slender waist
चन्द्रा-अंशु-गौरै:-छुरितम्
moon beams (like) bright shining
तनू-रुहै:-विष्वक्-भुजा-अनीक
body hair, on all sides arms (extending, like) armies,
शतम् नख-आयुधम्
hundreds of claws like weapons

Its body touched the skies, it had a short neck, a broad chest, slender waist, bright and shining moon beams like body hair, which looked like arms extending on all side like armies, and hundreds of weapons like claws.


दुरासदं सर्वनिजेतरायुधप्रवेकविद्रावितदैत्यदानवम् ।

प्रायेण मेऽयं हरिणोरुमायिना वध: स्मृतोऽनेन समुद्यतेन किम् ॥२३॥


दुरासदम् सर्व-निज-इतर-
difficult to approach, all, own and others'
आयुध-प्रवेक-विद्रावित
weapons driven away
दैत्य-दानवम्
Daityas and Daanavas
प्रायेण मे-अयम्
possibly, my, by this
हरिणा-उरु-मायिना
Shree Hari of many tricks
वध: स्मृत:-अनेन
death is said to be by Him
समुद्यतेन किम्
by His being prepared, what

This Shree Hari, of many tricks, Who is difficult to approach, Who by His own and others' weapons has driven away all Daityas and Daanavas, possibly, it is said that my death is to be by Him. But, what? If He is prepared as such?


एवं ब्रुवंस्त्वभ्यपतद् गदायुधो नदन् नृसिंहं प्रति दैत्यकुञ्जर: ।

अलक्षितोऽग्नौ पतित: पतङ्गमो यथा नृसिंहौजसि सोऽसुरस्तदा ॥२४॥


एवम् ब्रुवन्-तु-अभ्यपतद्
thus muttering, indeed, rushed
गदा-आयुध:-नदन् नृसिंहम्
with mace armed, roaring man-lion
प्रति दैत्य-कुञ्जर:
towards, the Daitya elephant
अलक्षित:-अग्नौ पतित:
unseen in the fire, fallen
पतङ्गम: यथा नृसिंह-ओजसि
moth, just as into Nrisimha's nimbus
स:-असुर:-तदा
that demon then

Thus, muttering, the Daitya elephant, armed with his mace, rushed with a roar towards Nrisimha's. Then just as the moth falls in the flame of fire and is not seen, the demon then fell in the nimbus of Lord Narasimha.


न तद् विचित्रं खलु सत्त्वधामनि स्वतेजसा यो नु पुरापिबत् तम: ।

ततोऽभिपद्याभ्यहनन्महासुरो रुषा नृसिंहं गदयोरुवेगया ॥२५॥


न तद् विचित्रम् खलु
not that was surprising, certainly,
सत्त्व-धामनि स्व-तेजसा
for the Sattva Personified, by His own effulgence,
य: नु पुरा-अपिबत् तम:
Who indeed, of yore had swallowed darkness
तत:-अभिपद्य-अभ्यहनत्-
then darting, assailed
महासुर: रुषा नृसिंहम्
the great demon, angrily Nrisimha's
गदया-उरु-वेगया
by the mace with great force

Certainly that was not surprising, for the Sattva Personified, because, of yore, He had swallowed darkness. Then, the mighty demon darted towards Nrisimha's and assailed Him in great anger, with the mace with tremendous force.


तं विक्रमन्तं सगदं गदाधरो महोरगं तार्क्ष्यसुतो यथाग्रहीत् ।

स तस्य हस्तोत्कलितस्तदासुरो विक्रीडतो यद्वदहिर्गरुत्मत: ॥२६॥


तम् विक्रमन्तम् सगदम्
him coming forward, with the mace
गदा-धर: महा-उरगम्
The Wielder of mace (Vishnu), the great serpent,
तार्क्ष्य-सुत: यथा-अग्रहीत्
as Taarkshy's son (Gaduda), just as, took hold of
स: तस्य हस्त-उत्कलित:-
he from his hand slipped
तदा-असुर: विक्रीडत:
then the demon, playing as though
यत्-वद्-अहि:-गरुत्मत:
that like the serpent from Gaduda

As he came forward, The Wielder of the mace, Vishnu, caught hold of him, like Gaduda, the son of Taarkshya, caught hold of the great serpent. He then slipped out of his hand as though in play, like the serpent from the hold of Gaduda.


असाध्वमन्यन्त हृतौकसोऽमरा घनच्छदा भारत सर्वधिष्ण्यपा: ।

तं मन्यमानो निजवीर्यशङ्कितं यद्-हस्तमुक्तो नृहरिं महासुर: ।

पुनस्तमासज्जत खड्गचर्मणी प्रगृह्य वेगेन जितश्रमो मृधे ॥२७॥


असाधु-अमन्यन्त

हृत-औकस:-अमरा:
of usurped abodes the gods
घनच्छदा: भारत
behind the cloud curtains, O Yudhisthira!
सर्व-धिष्ण्य-पा:
of all the directions the guardians
तम् मन्यमान:
Him believing
निज-वीर्य-शङ्कितम्
of His own prowess doubting
यद्-हस्त-मुक्त:
as from the hand escaped
नृहरिम् महासुर:
Nrisimha's, the mighty demon
पुन:-तम्-असज्जत
again Him accosted
खड्ग-चर्मणी प्रगृह्य वेगेन
sword and shield, getting hold of hastily
जित-श्रम: मृधे
un fatigued in battle

The gods and the guardians of all the quarters, whose abodes had been usurped, and who were standing behind the clouds' curtains, considered this to be unbecoming, as it indicated the escape of the demon from the hand of Nrisimha, as an indication of His doubting His own prowess. The mighty demon, unfatigued in battle, again accosted Him, hastily getting hold of the sword and the shield.


तं श्येनवेगं शतचन्द्रवर्त्मभिश्चरन्तमच्छिद्रमुपर्यधो हरि: ।

कृत्वाट्टहासं खरमुत्स्वनोल्बणं निमीलिताक्षं जगृहे महाजव: ॥२८॥


तम् श्येन-वेगम्
him of hawk's speed
शत-चन्द्र-वर्त्मभि:-चरन्तम्-
sword and shield brandishing, darting
अच्छिद्रम्-उपरि-अध:
faultlessly, upside and down,
हरि: कृत्वा-अट्टहासम्
Hari giving out shrill laughter
खरम्-उत्स्वन-उल्बणम्
terrific roar fierce
निमीलित-अक्षम्
the closed eyed
जगृहे महा-जव:
getting hold of swiftly

Shree Hari, giving out a shrill laughter, made fierce by a terrific roar, swiftly caught hold of him, who was faultlessly brandishing the sword and shield, up and down with a hawk's speed, and had his eyes closed.


विष्वक् स्फुरन्तं ग्रहणातुरं हरिर्व्यालो यथाऽऽखुं कुलिशाक्षतत्वचम् ।

द्वार्यूर आपात्य ददार लीलया नखैर्यथाहिं गरुडो महाविषम् ॥२९॥


विष्वक् स्फुरन्तम् ग्रहण-आतुरम्
all over wriggling, caught impatient
हरि:-व्याल: यथा-आखुम्
Shree Hari, a serpent like a mouse
कुलिश-अक्षत-त्वचम्
by thunderbolt unscratched skinned
द्वारि-उरे आपात्य
in the doorway on the thighs flinging
ददार लीलया नखै:-
tore apart sportingly by the nails,
यथा-अहिम् गरुड: महाविषम्
as a serpent by Gaduda venomous

Impatient at having been caught, the demon was wriggling all over. Shree Hari, flung him on His thighs in the doorway of the court, and as in a mere sport, tore him, with his nails, whose skin was unscratched even by the thunderbolt, just as a serpent would tear a mouse, or a Gaduda would tear a venomous snake.


संरम्भदुष्प्रेक्ष्यकराललोचनो व्यात्ताननान्तं विलिहन्स्वजिह्वया ।

असृग्लवाक्तारुणकेसराननो यथान्त्रमाली द्विपहत्यया हरि: ॥३०॥


संरम्भ-दुष्प्रेक्ष्य-कराल-लोचन:
due to fury difficult to be gazed at, frightful eyed
व्यात्त-आनन-अन्तम्
gaping mouth's ends
विलिहन्-स्व-जिह्वया
licking with His own tongue
असृक्-लव-आक्त-अरुण-केसर-
by the blood drops smeared, reddish manes
आनन: यथा-अन्त्र-माली
and face just as entrails garlanded
द्विप-हत्यया हरि:
by elephant's killing a lion

Due to fury, His, Nrisimha's, frightful eyes were difficult to be gazed at. He licked the corners of His gaping mouth with His own tongue. His manes and face were reddish, smeared by the drops of blood. And He, Hari, shone, garlanded by the entrails, like a lion having killed an elephant.


नखाङ्कुरोत्पाटितहृत्सरोरुहं विसृज्य तस्यानुचरानुदायुधान् ।

अहन् समन्तान्नखशस्त्रपार्ष्णिभिर्दोर्दण्डयूथोऽनुपथान् सहस्रश: ॥३१॥


नख-अङ्कुर-उत्पाटित-
by the nails' ends split open
हृत्-सरोरुहम् विसृज्य
the heart lotus, abandoning
तस्य-अनुचरान्-उदायुधान्
his attendents upholding arms
अहन् समन्तात्-
slew everywhere
नख-शस्त्र-पार्ष्णिभि:-
by the nail weapons (and) heels
दो:-दण्ड-यूथ:-
the arms as the army
अनुपथान् सहस्रश:
driving away in thousands

He, having split open his heart lotus with His nails, abandoned him. Then, He slew his attendents who were carrying arms, with His weapon like nails and heels and drove them away everywhere in thousands.


सटावधूता जलदा: परापतन् ग्रहाश्च तद्दृष्टिविमुष्टरोचिष: ।

अम्भोधय: श्वासहता विचुक्षभुर्निर्ह्रादभीता दिगिभा विचक्रुशु: ॥३२॥


सटा-अवधूता:-जलदा: परापतन्
by (His) manes' hair shaken, the clouds scattered
ग्रहा:-च तत्-दृष्टि-
the planets and by His glance
विमुष्ट-रोचिष:
were robbed of lustre
अम्भोधय: श्वास-हता
the oceans by the breath struck
विचुक्षभु:-निर्ह्राद-भीता:
grew turbulent by the roar, scared
दिगिभा: विचक्रुशु:
the quarters guarding elephants trumpeted

By the shaken hair of His manes, the clouds scattered. The planets were robbed of their lustre by His glance. The oceans grew turbulent struck by His breath, and scared by His roar, the elephants guarding the quarters, trumpeted.


द्यौस्तत्सटोत्क्षिप्तविमानसङ्कुला प्रोत्सर्पत क्ष्मा च पदातिपीडिता ।

शैला: समुत्पेतुरमुष्य रंहसा तत्तेजसा खं ककुभो न रेजिरे ॥३३॥


द्यौ:-तत्-सटा-उत्क्षिप्त-
the firmament was, by His hair thrown
विमान-सङ्कुला: प्रोत्सर्पत क्ष्मा
aerial cars, strewn, shook the earth
च पदा-अति-पीडिता
and by feet sore pressed
शैला: समुत्पेतु:-अमुष्य रंहसा
the mountains flew by His speed
तत्-तेजसा खम्
by His splendour, the sky
ककुभ: न रेजिरे
and the quarters eclipsed

By His shaken hair, the aerial cars were thrown and the firmament was strewn by them. By His feet the earth was sore pressed and shook from its foundation. The mountains flew because of His speed. Because of His splendour the sky and the quarters were eclipsed.


तत: सभायामुपविष्टमुत्तमे नृपासने संभृततेजसं विभुम् ।

अलक्षितद्वैरथमत्यमर्षणं प्रचण्डवक्त्रं न बभाज कश्चन ॥३४॥


तत: सभायाम्-उपविष्टम्-
then in the court, seated on
उमुत्तमे नृप-आसने
the excellent royal throne
संभृत-तेजसम् विभुम्
of collected brilliance, The Almighty Lord
अलक्षित-द्वैरथम्-
not visible any adversary
अति-अमर्षणम् प्रचण्ड-वक्त्रम्
very furious, dreadful countenance
न बभाज कश्चन
did not approach (to serve) anyone

The Almighty Lord, Who was then seated on the excellent royal throne, with His brilliance collected, Who with a dreadful countenance looked furious, though no adversary was visible, Him, no one dared to approach or serve.


निशम्य लोकत्रयमस्तकज्वरं तमादिदैत्यं हरिणा हतं मृधे ।

प्रहर्षवेगोत्कलितानना मुहु: प्रसूनवर्षैर्ववृषु: सुरस्त्रिय: ॥३५॥


निशम्य लोक-त्रय-मस्तक-ज्वरम्
hearing, of the worlds three, the headache
तम्-आदि-दैत्यम्
him the first Daitya (born of Aditi)
हरिणा हतम् मृधे
by Shree Hari was killed in a combat
प्रहर्ष-वेग-उत्कलित-आनना
joy's out bursting blooming faces
मुहु: प्रसून-वर्षै:-ववृषु:
again and again flowers rains rained
सुर-स्त्रिय:
celestial women

Hearing that the foremost of the Daityas, Hiranyakashipu, the headache of the three worlds, was killed by Lord Shree Hari, in a combat, the celestial women whose faces were blooming with the out burst of joy, rained rains of flowers again and again.


तदा विमानावलिभिर्नभस्तलं दिदृक्षतां सङ्कुलमास नाकिनाम् ।

सुरानका दुन्दुभयोऽथ जघ्निरे गन्धर्वमुख्या ननृतुर्जगु: स्त्रिय: ॥३६॥


तदा विमान-अवलिभि:-
then, aerial cars' rows
नभ:-तलम् दिदृक्षताम्
the sky space with the eager to see
सङ्कुलम्-आस नाकिनाम्
crammed was with heavenly bodies
सुर-आनका: दुन्दुभय:-अथ
the gods' tabors and drums then
जघ्निरे गन्धर्व-मुख्या:
were sounded, by the leading Gandharvas
ननृतु:-जगु: स्त्रिय:
danced celestial women

The sky space was crammed by rows of aerial cars full of the heavenly bodies eager to see Him. Then the gods' tabors and drums were sounded by the leading Gandharvas and the celestial women danced.


तत्रोपव्रज्य विबुधा ब्रह्मेन्द्रगिरिशादय: ।

ऋषय: पितर: सिद्धा विद्याधरमहोरगा: ॥३७॥


तत्र-उपव्रज्य विबुधा: ब्रह्म-
there, going near, the gods, Brahmaa,
इन्द्र-गिरिश-आदय:
Indra, Shiva and others
ऋषय: पितर: सिद्धा:
the sages, manes, Siddhaas,
विद्याधर महा-उरगा:
Vidyaadharas, and great serpents

There, in the court of Hiranyakashipu, the gods, Brahmaa, Indra, Shiva and others, the sages, manes, Siddhaas, Vidyaadharas, and great serpents, going near…..


मनव: प्रजानां पतयो गन्धर्वाप्सरचारणा: ।

यक्ष: किम्पुरुषास्तात वेताला: सिद्धकिन्नरा: ॥३८॥


मनव: प्रजानाम् पतय:
the Manus, the creations' lords,
गन्धर्व-अप्सर-चारणा:
Gandharvas, Apsaras, Chaaranaas,
यक्ष: किम्पुरुषा:-तात
Yakshas, Kimpurushas, O Dear One!
वेताला: सिद्ध-किन्नरा:
The Vetaalas, the accomplished Kinnaras,

O Dear One! the Manus, the creations' lords, Gandharvas, Apsaras, Chaaranaas, Yakshas, Kimpurushas, The Vetaalas, the accomplished Kinnaras, (going near)…….


ते विष्णुपार्षदा: सर्वे सुनन्दकुमुदादय: ।

मूर्ध्नि बद्धाञ्जलिपुटा आसीनं तीव्रतेजसम् ।

इडिरे नरशार्दूलं नातिदूरचर: पृथक् ॥३९॥


ते विष्णु-पार्षदा: सर्वे:
they, Vishnu's attendents all
सुनन्द-कुमुद-आदय:
Sunanda, Kumuda and others
मूर्ध्नि बद्ध-अञ्जलि-पुटा:
on the head joined palms hollow of
आसीनम् तीव्र-तेजसम्
seated of dazzling splendour
इडिरे नरशार्दूलम्
sang hymns to Nrisimha
न-अति-दूर-चर: पृथक्
not very far, staying away

They, and the attendents of Vishnu, Sunanda, Kumuda and others, with the hollow of their hands joined together, raised on the head, sang hymns to the seated Nrisimha, of dazzling brilliance, staying away but not very far.


ब्रह्म-उवाच -
Brahmaa said -
नतोऽस्म्यनन्ताय दुरन्तशक्तये विचित्रवीर्याय पवित्रकर्मणे ।

विश्वस्य सर्गस्थितिसंयमान् गुणै: स्वलीलया संदधतेऽव्ययात्मने ॥४०॥


नत:-अस्मि-अनन्ताय
bowed am I to The Infinite, (Lord)
दुरन्त-शक्तये विचित्र-वीर्याय
of wonderful prowess, of strange potency,
पवित्र-कर्मणे
of holy deeds,
विश्वस्य सर्ग-स्थिति-संयमान्
of the universe, the creation, protection and dissolution
गुणै: स्व-लीलया
through the Gunas by own sporting (nature)
संदधते-अव्यय-आत्मने
carries on The undecaying Self

I am bowed to The Infinite Lord, Who is of wonderful prowess, of strange potency, of holy deeds, Who carries on the creation, protection and dissolution of the universe through the Gunas by His own sporting nature, and yet, is the undecaying Self.


श्री रुद्र उवाच -
Shri Rudra said -
कोपकालो युगान्तस्ते हतोऽयमसुरोऽल्पक: ।

तत्सुतं पाह्युपसृतं भक्तं ते भक्तवत्सल ॥४१॥


कोप-काल: युगान्त:-ते
anger time, in the end of the Kalpa, is Yours
हत:-अयम्-असुर:-अल्पक:
is killed this demon petty
तत्-सुतम्-पाहि-उपसृतम्
his son protect, approaching
भक्तम् ते भक्त-वत्सल
devotee of Yours, O Devotee Lover!

O Lover of devotees! The time for You to vent Your anger is at the end of the Kalpa. This petty demon has been killed by You. Do protect his son, Your devotee, who has approached You.


इन्द्र उवाच-
Indra said-
प्रत्यानीता: परम भवता त्रायता न: स्वभागा

दैत्याक्रान्तं हृदयकमलं त्वद्गृहं प्रत्यबोधि ।

कालग्रस्तं कियदिदमहो नाथ शुश्रुषतां ते

मुक्तिस्तेषां नहि बहुमता नारसिंहापरै: किम् ॥४२॥


प्रति-आनीता: परम भवता
back brought, by Supreme You
त्रायता न: स्व-भागा:
protected us, Your own shares
दैत्य-आक्रान्तम् हृदय-कमलम्
by the demon possessed, the heart lotus
त्वत्-गृहम् प्रति-अबोधि
Your abode again opened
काल-ग्रस्तम् कियत्-इदम्-
by time devoured, of what this is use,
अहो नाथ शुश्रुषताम् ते
Oh! O Lord! Those serving You
मुक्ति:-तेषाम् नहि बहु-मता
liberation to them is not important
नारसिंह-अपरै: किम्
O Nrisimha! of others what

O Supreme Lord! Protecting us, You have recovered your own shares possessed by the demon. The lotus of our hearts, Your abode, possessed by the demon has been opened by You. O Lord! Of what use is the sovereignty of the three worlds, which is going to be devoured by Time. O Nrisimha! for those serving You, liberation also is not of any value to them, what of use are other objects then?


ऋषय: ऊचु:
The Rishis said-
त्वं नस्तप: परममात्थ यदात्मतेजो

येनेदमादिपुरुषात्मगतं ससर्ज ।

तद् विप्रलुप्तममुनाद्य शरण्यपाल

रक्षागृहीतवपुषा पुनरन्वमंस्था: ॥४३॥


त्वम् न:-तप: परमम्-
You to us, austerities are highest,
अत्थ यत्-आत्म-तेज:
said, which is self glory
येन-इदम्-आदि-पुरुष-
by which this (universe), O Ancient Person!
आत्म-गतम् ससर्ज
in Your self lay, created
तद् विप्रलुप्तम्-अमुना-
that was stopped by him,
अद्य शरण्यपाल
today, O Protector of the shelter seeking!
रक्षा-गृहीत-वपुषा
for protection, assumed the body
पुन:-अन्वमंस्था:
again voted

Oh Ancient Person! That highest austerities, which you said to us were for self glory, by which You created this universe which lay merged in You, the practice of which this demon had stopped, O Protector of those seeking shelter! By assuming this body for shelter, You have today once again voted.


पितर ऊचु: -
The manes said -
श्राद्धानि नोऽधिबुभुजे प्रसभं तनूजैर्दत्तानि तीर्थसमयेऽप्यपिबत् तिलाम्बु।

तस्योदरान्नखविदीर्णवपाद् य आर्च्छत् तस्मै नमो नृहरयेऽखिलधर्मगोप्त्रे ॥४४॥


श्राद्धानि न:-अधिबुभुजे
the reverential offerings, ours, appropriated,
प्रसभम् तनूजै:-दत्तानि
forcibly by (our) sons given
तीर्थ-समये-अपि-
at the holy bath time
अपिबत् तिल-अम्बु
also drank the sesame seed water
तस्य-उदरान्-
his (the demon's) abdomen
नख-विदीर्ण-वपाद्
by the nails torn from the insides
य: आर्च्छत् तस्मै नम:
Who recovered, to Him we bow
नृहरये-अखिल-धर्म-गोप्त्रे
Nrisimha, of all righteousness the Protector

He, the demon, forcibly appropriated the reverential offerings given to us by our sons, at the time of holy bath, and also drank the water with the sesame seeds. We bow down to The Lord Nrisimha, the Protector of all righteousness, Who, by tearing open his abdomen by the nails, from his insides, recovered the offerings for us.


सिद्धा: ऊचु: -
The Siddhas said -
यो नो गतिं योगसिद्धामसाधुरहार्षीद् योगतपोबलेन ।

नानादर्पं तं नखैर्निर्ददार तस्मै तुभ्यं प्रणता: स्मो नृसिंह ॥४५॥


य: न: गतिम् योग-सिद्धाम्-
Who our powers, by Yoga and concentration
असाधु:-अहार्षीद् योग-तप:-बलेन
by the impious snatched, by Yoga and austerities' strength
नाना-दर्पम् तम् नखै:-निर्ददार
of various prides, him, by nails having torn
तस्मै तुभ्यम् प्रणता: स्म: नृसिंह
to That You, are bowed reverentially, O Nrisimha!

O Nrisimha! We are reverentially bowed to That You, Who with nails have torn that impious demon, who, with the power of Yoga and austerities, had snatched that powers of ours which we had gained by Yoga and meditation.


विद्याधरा: ऊचु: -
The Vidyaadharas said -
विद्यां पृथग्धारणयानुराद्धां न्यषेधदज्ञो बलवीर्यदृप्त: ।

स येन संख्ये पशुवत्-हतस्तं मायानृसिंहं प्रणता: स्म नित्यम् ॥४६॥


विद्याम् पृथक्-धारणया-
the knowledge, by on various subjects (concentrating)
अनुराद्धाम् न्यषेधत्-अज्ञ:
gained, banned the fool
बल-वीर्य-दृप्त:
of his valour and strength proud
स: येन संख्ये पशुवत्-हत:-
he, by Whom in combat, as a beast killed,
तम् माया-नृसिंहम्
Him, The mystic Nrisimha
प्रणता: स्म नित्यम्
bowed are we always

The knowledge, of becoming invisible etc., which we had gained by concentrating on various subjects, that knowledge was banned by this arrogant fellow proud of his physical valour and strength. That he, was killed in an encounter by Which mystic Nrisimha, to Him we are always bowed.


नागा: ऊचु: -

येन पापेन रत्नानि स्त्रीरत्नानि हृतानि न: ।

तद्वक्ष:पाटनेनासां दत्तानन्द नमोऽस्तु ते ॥४७॥


येन पापेन रत्नानि
by that wicked, jewels and
स्त्री-रत्नानि हृतानि न:
women jewels abducted ours
तत्-वक्ष:-पाटनेन-
his breast by splitting open
आसाम् दत्त-आनन्द
to them have given joy
नम:-अस्तु ते
salutations be to You

By that wicked demon our jewels were wrested and our women, the jewels among women, were abducted. His breast was split open by You, which gave immense joy to our women. Our salutations be to You.


मनव: ऊचु: -
The Manus said -
मनवो वयं तव निदेशकारिणो दितिजेन देव परिभूतसेतव: ।

भवता खल: स उपसंहृत: प्रभो करवाम ते किमनुशाधि किङ्करान् ॥४८॥


मनव: वयम् तव निदेश-कारिण:
Manus, we, Your command followers
दितिजेन देव परिभूत-सेतव:
by Diti's son, O Lord! was negated, the bounds of morality
भवता खल: स: उपसंहृत:
by You, the wicked he is come to end
प्रभो करवाम ते किम्-
O Lord! Should do for You, what
अनुशाधि किङ्करान्
instruct Your servants

We, the Manus, have always followed Your commands. O Lord! This wicked son of Diti has set to naught all the bounds of morality. By You his end has come. O Lord! Instruct Your servants, what they should do for You.


प्रजापतय: ऊचु: -
The Prajaapatis said -
प्रजेशा वयं ते परेशाभिसृष्टा न येन प्रजा वै सृजामो निषिद्धा: ।

स एष त्वया भिन्नवक्षा नु शेते जगन्मङ्गलं सत्त्वमूर्तेऽवतार: ॥४९॥


प्रजेशा: वयम्
the lords of created beings, we,
ते परेश-अभिसृष्टा:
by You, O Supreme Ruler! Created
न येन प्रजा: वै
not by whom progeny indeed
सृजाम: निषिद्धा:
may create, prohibited
स: एष: त्वया
he this by You
भिन्न-वक्षा: नु शेते
split bosom indeed sleeps
जगत्-मङ्गलम्
for the universe welfare
सत्त्व-मूर्ते-अवतार:
O Satva's Embodiment! Is Your descent

O Supreme Ruler! We are the lords of all the created beings, who are created by You. We were prohibited by this demon to create progeny. His bosom has been split open by You. O Embodiment of Sattva! Your descent is for the welfare of the universe.


गन्धर्वा ऊचु: -
The Gandharvas said -
वयं बिभो ते नटनाट्यगायका येनात्मसाद् वीर्यबलौजसा कृता: ।

स एष नीतो भवता दशामिमां किमुत्पथस्थ: कुशलाय कल्पते॥५०॥


वयम् बिभो ते
we, O Almighty Lord! Are Your
नट-नाट्य-गायका:
actors in dramas and singers
येन-आत्मसात्
by whom in subjection
वीर्य-बल-औजसा कृता:
by valour strength and power, were brought
स: एष: नीत: भवता
that this is taken by You
दशाम्-इमाम्
to state this
किम्-उत्पथस्थ:
is a (person) treading evil path
कुशलाय कल्पते
for happiness attain

O Almighty Lord! We are the actors and singers in Your dramatic performances. We were taken into subjection by him by dint of his valour strength and power. He is brought to this state by You. Can a person treading on evil path attain happiness.


चारणा ऊचु: -
The Chaaranas said -
हरे तवाङ्घ्रिपङ्कजं भवापवर्गमाश्रिता: ।

यदेष साधुहृच्छयस्त्वयासुर: समापित: ॥५१॥


हरे तव-अङ्घ्रि-पङ्कजम्
O Lord Shree Hari! Your feet lotus (are)
भव-अपवर्गम्-आश्रिता:
(for) from world liberation are conducive
आश्रिता: यत्-एष: साधु-हृत्-शय:-
we resort to (again), because, this, of the nobles' hearts' thorn
त्वया-असुर: समापित:
by You the demon is disposed of

O Lord Shree Hari! We have again taken resort to Your feet lotus, which are conducive to transmigration, because, this Asura, the thorn of the heart of the noble has been disposed of by You.


यक्षा ऊचु: -
The Yakshas said -
वयमनुचरमुख्या: कर्मभिस्ते मनोज्ञैस्त इह दितिसुतेन प्रापिता वाहकत्वम् ।

स तु जनपरितापं तत्कृतं जानता ते नरहर उपनीत: पञ्चतां पञ्चविंश ॥५२॥


वयम्-अनुचर-मुख्या:
we, the attendents chief
कर्मभि:-ते मनोज्ञै:-
by our actions to You agreeable
ते इह दिति-सुतेन
those, here, by Diti's son
प्रापिता वाहकत्वम्
were reduced to palanquin bearers
स: तु जन-परितापम्
That indeed, of the peoples' agony
तत्-कृतम् जानता ते नरहर
by that cause knowing, Your, O Nrisimha!
उपनीत: पञ्चताम्
is put to death
पञ्चविंश
O Controller of the twenty five categories!

We were Your prime attendents, because of our agreeable actions towards You. Those we, were reduced to mere palanquin bearers by this Diti's son, Hiranyakashipu. O Nrisimha! That You have put him to death as You understand the agony of Your own people, O Controller of the twenty five categories.


किम्पुरुषा ऊचु:-
The Kimpurushas said -
वयं किम्पुरुषास्त्वं तु महापुरुष ईश्वर: ।

अयं कुपुरुषो नष्टो धिक्कृत: साधुभिर्यदा ॥५३॥


वयम् किम्पुरुषा:
we are insignificant creatures
त्वम् तु महापुरुष ईश्वर:
You indeed, The Supreme Person Almighty
अयम् कुपुरुष: नष्ट:
this wretched fellow is disposed of
धिक्कृत: साधुभि:-यदा
reproached by the noble when (was no better)

O Almighty! You are The Supreme Person! And we are significant creatures. This wretched fellow has been destroyed, who was no better when he was reproached by the noble.


वैतालिका: ऊचु: -
The Vaitalikas said -
सभासु सत्रेषु तवामलं यशो गीत्वा सपर्यां महतीं लभामहे ।

यस्तां व्यनैषीद् भृशमेष दुर्जनो दिष्ट्या हतस्ते भगवन्यथाऽऽमय: ॥५४


सभासु सत्रेषु
in assemblies and religious sessions
तव-अमलम् यश: गीत्वा
Your untarnished glory by singing,
सपर्याम् महतीम् लभामहे
honours great (we) received
य:-ताम् व्यनैषीद्
who that (glory) destroyed
भृशम्-एष दुर्जन:
extremely this wicked person
दिष्ट्या हत:-ते
fortunately is killed by You
भगवन्-यथा-आमय:
O Lord! Just like a malady

When we sang Your untarnished glory in the assemblies and religious sessions, we received great glory. This extremely wicked fellow has destroyed it. Fortunately he has been got rid of, by You, just like a malady.


किन्नरा ऊचु: -
The Kinnaras said -
वयमीश किन्नरगणास्तवानुगा दितिजेन विष्टिममुनानु कारिता: ।

भवता हरे स वृजिनोऽवसादितो नरसिंह नाथ विभवाय नो भव ॥५५॥


वयम्-ईश किन्नर-गणा:-
we, O Lord! the Kinnara hosts
तव-अनुगा: दितिजेन विष्टिम्-
(are) Your followers, by Diti's son, unpaid labour
अमुना-अनु- कारिता:
by him were made to do
भवता हरे स: वृजिन:-अवसादित:
by You, O Shree Hari! he, the evil fellow is slain
नरसिंह नाथ विभवाय न: भव
O Nrisimha! O Master! for prosperity ours may You be

O Lord! We, the hosts of Kinnaras are Your followers. O Shree Hari! By this son of Diti we were made to do unpaid labour. O Nrisimha! He has been slain by You. O Master! Be pleased to further our prosperity.


विष्णुपार्षदा: ऊचु: -
The attendents of Lord Vishnu said -
अद्यैतद् हरिनररूपमद्भुतं ते दृष्टं न: शरणद सर्वलोकशर्म ।

सोऽयं ते विधिकर ईश विप्रशप्तस्तस्येदं विधानमनुग्रहाय विद्म: ॥५६॥


अद्य-एतद् हरि-नर-रूपम्-
today this lion-man form
अद्भुतम् ते दृष्टम् न:
strange, Yours is seen by us
शरणद सर्व-लोक-शर्म
O Protection Provider! For all the worlds happiness (giver)
स:-अयम् ते विधिकर:
he this (is) Your servant
ईश विप्र-शप्त:-तस्य-
O Lord! by Braahmana cursed, his
इदम् विधानम्-अनुग्रहाय विद्म:
this condition, for (Your) grace we know

O Protection Provider! This strange form of Yours, of a lion and a man, we have seen today, is the source of happiness for the whole world. O Lord! He, this Hiranyakashipu, was your servant, who was cursed by a Braahmana. We know that this present condition of his, is for Your grace to him.


इति श्रीमद्भागवते महापुराणे पारमहंस्यां संहितायां सप्तमे स्कन्धे प्रह्लादानुचरिते दैत्यराजवधे नृसिंहस्तवं नाम अष्टम: अध्याय: ॥८॥


Thus ends the eighth discourse, entitled 'Lord Nrisimha extolled on the death of Hiranyakashipu (the demon king)', forming part of the Narrative of Prahlaada in Book Seven of the great and glorious Bhaagavata-Puraana.
