सूत उवाच -
Soota said -
आनर्तान् स उपव्रज्य स्वृद्धाञ्जनपदान् स्वकान् ।
दध्मौ दरवरं तेषां विषादं शमयन्निव ॥१॥
आनर्तान् स: उपव्रज्य
Aanarta, He reached
स्वृद्धान्-जनपदान् स्वकान्
highly prosperous territory, His
दध्मौ दर-वरम्
blew the conch great
तेषाम् विषादम्
their dismay
शमयन्-इव
to relieve as if
He, Lord Krishna reached His highly prosperous territory of Aanarta. There He blew His great conch as if to give relief to the residents there who were distressed by His seperation.
स उच्चकाशे धवलोदरो दरोऽप्युरुक्रमस्याधरशोणशोणिमा ।
दाध्मायमान: करकञ्जसम्पुटे यथाब्जखण्डे कलहंस उत्स्वन: ॥२॥

he, the highly resplendent,
धवल-उदर: दर:-
white inside of the conch,
अपि-उरुक्रमस्य-अधर-
also by the Almighty's lips'
शोण-शोणिमा
redness, reddened,
दाध्मायमान:
as it was blown,
कर-कञ्ज-सम्पुटे
in the hand lotus cups
यथा-अब्ज-खण्डे
like in the lotus's middle
कलहंस उत्स्वन:
the beautiful swan calls
The insides of the bright conch were shining highly, which attained the reddish hue by the contact with the red lips of Krishna, as it was being blown, in the cups of the lotus hands, just as a beautiful swan calls from among the parts of lotuses.
तमुपश्रुत्य निनदं जगद्भयभयावहम् ।
प्रत्युद्ययु: प्रजा: सर्वा भर्तृदर्शनलालसा: ॥३॥
तम्-उपश्रुत्य निनदम्
that hearing, resound
जगत्-भय भयावहम्
world's terror scaring (away)
प्रत्युत्-ययु: प्रजा: सर्वा
eagerly went public all
भर्तृ-दर्शन-लालसा:
masters' sight longing
The whole public of Dwaaraka eagerly went forth longing to see their master, when they heard that resound of the conch which scares away the terrors of the world.
तत्रोपनीतबलयो रवेर्दीपमिवादृता: ।
आत्मारामं पूर्णकामं निजलाभेन नित्यदा ॥४॥
तत्र-उपनीत-बलय:

to the Sun lights as if, respectfully
आत्मारामम् पूर्णकामम्
for the One in Himself rejoicing, Desire less
निज-लाभेन नित्यदा
for their own gain, always
They always respectfully took presents for the One Who rejoices in Himself and is Desireless, for their own gain, just as lights were offered to the Sun.
प्रीत्युत्फुल्लमुखा: प्रोचुर्हर्षगद्गदया गिरा ।
पितरं सर्वसुहृदमवितारमिवार्भका: ॥५॥
प्रीति-उत्फुल्ल-मुखा: प्रोचु:-
with love enlightened face, said
हर्ष-गद्गदया गिरा
with delight choked voices
पितरम् सर्व-सुहृदम्-
to father, everyone's friend
अवितारम्-इव-अर्भका:
and protector, like children
They spoke to Krishna, the friend and protector of every one, their faces enlightened with love and their voices choked with delight, as children would speak to their father.
नता:स्म ते नाथ सदाङ्घ्रिपङ्कजं वैरिञ्च्यसुरेन्द्रवन्दितम् ।
परायणं क्षेममिहेच्छतां परं न यत्र काल: प्रभवेत् पर: प्रभु: ॥६॥
नता:-स्म ते नाथ
prostate do we, to You, O Master!
सदा-अङ्घ्रि-पङ्कजम्
always, feet lotuses
विरिञ्च-वैरिञ्च्य-
by Brahmaa, Shiva
सुरेन्द्र-वन्दितम्
Indra glorified
परायणम् क्षेमम्-
the final resort and well being (bliss)
इह-इच्छताम् परम्
here aspiring for ultimate
न यत्र काल:
not where Time
प्रभवेत् पर: प्रभु:
effects, O Omnipotent Lord!
O Master! We always prostate at Your lotus feet, which are glorified even by Brahmaa, Shiva and Indra. Here, in this world, for those aspiring for the ultimate, Your feet endow the final resort and the highest bliss, where even Time is ineffective, O Omnipotent Lord!
भवाय नस्त्वं भव विश्वभावन् त्वमेव माताथ सुहृत् पति: पिता ।
त्वं सद्गुरुर्न: परमं च दैवतं यस्यानुवृत्त्या कृतिनो बभूविम ॥७॥
भवाय न:-त्वम्
welfare for ours, You
भव विश्वभावन्
be O Lord of the universe
त्वम्-एव माता-अथ
You alone are mother and then
सुहृत् पति: पिता
selfless friend, Lord and father
त्वम् सत्-गुरु:-न:
You are true preceptor ours
परमम् च दैवतम्
and the highest deity
यस्य-अनुवृत्त्या
by whose service
कृतिन: बभूविम
blessed became we
O Lord of the Universe! May You be pleased for our welfare. You alone are our mother, and then also a selfless friend, Lord and father, You are our true preceptor and the highest diety, by serving whom we are blessed.
अहो सनाथा भवता स्म यद्वयं त्रैविष्टपानामपि दूरदर्शनम् ।
प्रेमस्मितस्निग्धनिरीक्षणाननं पश्येम रूपं तव सर्वसौभगम् ॥८॥
अहो सनाथा: भवता स्म
Oh! with Master, by Your being
यत्-वयम् त्रैविष्टपानाम्-अपि
that we are, for the celestial gods even
दूर-दर्शनम् प्रेम-स्मित-
rare sight, loving smile
स्निग्ध-निरीक्षण-आननम्
charming glance, face
पश्येम रूपम् तव
(we) see form Yours
सर्व-सौभगम्
all blessings endower
Oh it is wonderful, that, because of You we have a Master. O endower of all blessings! we get to behold the rare sight of Your loving smile, and your face with a charming look, which even the celestial gods do not get to see.
यर्ह्यम्बुजाक्षापससार भो भवान् कुरून् मधून् वाथ सुहृद्दिदृक्षया ।
तत्राब्दकोटिप्रतिम: क्षणो भवेद् रविं विनाक्ष्णोरिव नस्तवाच्युत ॥९॥
यर्हि-अम्बुज-अक्ष-
when O Lotus eyed
अपससार भो भवान्
went away, Oh You!
कुरून् मधून् वा-अथ
Kauravas, Madhus or then
सुहृद्-दिदृक्षया
(Your) friends to see
तत्र-अब्दकोटि-
then years myriads
प्रतिम: क्षण:- भवेत्
like one moment becomes
रविम् विना-अक्ष्णो:-इव
Sun without eyes like
न:-तव-अच्युत
of ours by You O Achyuta!
O Lotus Eyed One! When You go away to Hastinaapura, or to Mathura or to visit Your friends and relatives, for us one moment becomes like myriads of years, just as the eyes become without the Sun, because of not getting to see You, O Achyuta!
इति चोदीरिता वाच: प्रजानां भक्तवत्सल: ।
शृण्वानोऽनुग्रहं दृष्ट्या वितन्वन् प्राविशत्पुरीम् ॥१०॥

these and spoken words
प्रजानाम् भक्त-वत्सल:
of the public, of devotees dear
शृण्वान:-अनुग्रहम् दृष्ट्या
hearing, grace by looks
वितन्वन् प्राविशत्-पुरीम्
extending, entered the city
Krishna, who is fond of His devotees, heard the words spoken by the public of Dwaaraka, and extended His grace by casting looks at them, as he entered the city.
मधुभोजदशार्हार्हकुकुरान्धकवृष्णिभि: ।
आत्मतुल्यबलैर्गुप्तां नागैर्भोगवतीमिव ॥११॥
मधु-भोज-दशार्ह-अर्ह-
by Madhu, Bhoja, Dashaarha, Arha,
कुकुर-अन्धक-वृष्णिभि:
Kukura, Andhaka, and by the Vrishnees
आत्म-तुल्य-बलै:-गुप्ताम्
themselves equal to in strength, guarded
नागै:-भोगवतीम्-इव
by Naagas Bhogawati just as
The city of Dwaaraka was gaurded by the Madhu, Bhoja, Dashaarha, Arha, Kukura, Andhaka and Vrishnees clans, who had no equal to themselves in strength, just as Bhogawati is gaurded by the Naagas.
सर्वर्तुसर्वविभवपुण्यवृक्षलताश्रमै: ।
उद्यानोपवनारामैर्वृतपद्माकरश्रियम् ॥१२॥
सर्व-ऋतु-सर्व-विभव-
in all seasons, all splendour
पुण्य-वृक्ष-लता-आश्रमै:
sacred trees, creepers and hermitages
उद्यान-उपवन-आरामै:-
parks and gardens and rest houses
वृत-पद्माकर-श्रियम्
were surrounded by the lotus beauty
The hermitages were full of sacred trees and creepers which bloomed with splendour in all the seasons. The parks gardens and rest houses were surrounded by the beauty of blooming lotuses.
गोपुरद्वारमार्गेषु कृतकौतुकतोरणाम् ।
चित्रध्वजपताकाग्रैरन्त:प्रतिहतातपाम् ॥१३॥
गोपुर-द्वार-मार्गेषु
main gates and gates and the pathways
कृत-कौतुक-तोरणाम्
various designed, temporary arches
चित्र-ध्वज-पताकाग्रै:-
different flags, and festoons' ends
अन्त:-प्रतिहत-आतपाम्
inside debarred sunrays
The gates, main gates and path ways were decorated with temporary arches of various designs. Different flags and fastoons' end kept the sunrays from entering inside.
सम्मार्जितमहामार्ग रथ्यापणकचत्वराम् ।
सिक्तां गन्धजलैरुप्तां फलपुष्पाक्षताङ्कुरै: ॥१४॥
सम्मार्जित महा-मार्ग
well cleaned main road
रथ्या-आपणक-चत्वराम्
lanes, market place and crossings
सिक्ताम् गन्ध-जलै:-उप्ताम्
sprinkled with scented water, and strewn
फल-पुष्प-अक्षत-अङ्कुरै:
with fruits, flowers, rice and sprouts
The main roads, lanes market places and road crossings were well cleaned and sprinkled with scented water. There were scattered everywhere fruits and flowers, rice grains and sprouts.
द्वारि द्वारि गृहाणां च दध्यक्षतफलेक्षुभि: ।
अलंकृतां पूर्णकुम्भैर्बलिभिर्धूपदीपकै: ॥१५॥
द्वारि द्वारि गृहाणाम् च
door to door of houses and
दधि-अक्षत-फल-इक्षुभि:
curds, rice, fruits and sugarcanes
अलंकृताम् पूर्ण-कुम्भै:-
decorated by full pitchers
बलिभि:-धूप-दीपकै:
with gifts, incense and lights
The doors of every house were decorated with curds and rice, fruits and sugarcanes, and also pitchers full of water, gifts, inscence and lights.
निशम्य प्रेष्ठमायान्तं वसुदेवो महामना: ।
अक्रूरश्चोग्रसेनश्च रामश्चाद्भुतविक्रम्: ॥१६॥
निशम्य प्रेष्ठम्-आयान्तम्
hearing, most beloved (Krishna) has returned

Vasudeva, the most noble

Balaraama, the wonderful warrior
O Hearing that beloved Krishna had returned, the most noble Vasudeva, and Akrura and Ugrasena and the marvellous warrior Balaraama, …
प्रद्युम्नश्चारुदेष्णश्च साम्बो जाम्बवतीसुत: ।
प्रहर्षवेगोच्छशितशयनासनभोजना: ॥१७॥
प्रद्युम्न:-चारुदेष्ण:-च
Pradyumna, Chaarudeshana and
साम्ब: जाम्बवती-सुत:
Saamba, Jaambavati's son, (Jaambavaana)
प्रहर्ष-वेग:-उच्छशित-
(with) joy flooding, arose leaving
शयन-आसन-भोजना:
beds, seats and food
In a flood of joy, Pradyumna, Chaarudeshana and Saamba, Jaambavati's son - Jaambavaan, left their beds and seats and even food and rushed to meet him.
वारणेन्द्रं पुरस्कृत्य ब्राह्मणै: ससुमङ्गलै: ।
शङ्खतूर्यनिनादेन ब्रह्मघोषेण चादृता: ।
प्रत्युज्जग्मू रथैर्हृष्टा: प्रणयागतसाध्वसा: ॥१८॥
वारणेन्द्रम् पुरस्कृत्य
an elephant leading
ब्राह्मणै: ससुमङ्गलै:
(with) Braahmanas and auspicious articles
शङ्ख-तूर्य-निनादेन
conch and trumpets blowing
ब्रह्मघोषेण च-आदृता:
and Vedic chanting honouring
प्रत्युज्जग्मु: रथै:-हृष्टा:
went to receive in chariots joyfully
प्रणय-आगत-साध्वसा:
with love welling up excitement
They joyfully went to receive Krishna with a lordly elephant leading, with Brahmanaas carrying auspecious articles, blowing the conch and trumpets, and honouring Him with chantings of Vedic hymns, with love welling up and full of excitement.
वारमुख्याश्च शतशो यानैस्तद्दर्शनोत्सुका: ।
लसत्कुण्डलनिर्भातकपोलवदनश्रिय: ॥१९॥
वारमुख्या:-च शतश:
and the leading courtesans in hundreds
यानै:-तत्-दर्शन-उत्सुका:
in palanquins, for His sight eager
लसत्-कुण्डल-निर्भात-
(with) dangling earrings radiant
कपोल-वदन-श्रिय:
cheeks and face beautiful
Hundreds of leading coutezans went in palenquins, eager to have a look at Him, with their faces rendered charming by the radiance of their cheeks because of their splendid earings dangling.
नटनर्तकगन्धर्वा: सूतमागधवन्दिन: ।
गायन्ति चोत्तमश्लोकचरितान्यद्भुतानि च ॥२०॥

actors, dancers and songsters
सूत-मागध-वन्दिन:
panegyrists bards and minstrels
गायन्ति च-उत्तमश्लोक-
sang and of the well renowned
चरितानि-अद्भुतानि च
exploits wonderful and
Actors, dancers and songsters, and also panegyrists bards and minstrels, sang and described the most wonderful exploits and deeds of the highly renowned Lord.
भगवांस्तत्र बन्धूनां पौराणामनुवर्तिनाम् ।
यथाविध्युपसंगम्य सर्वेषां मानमादधे ॥२१॥
भगवान्-तत्र बन्धूनाम्
The Lord, there, to friends
पौराणाम्-अनुवर्तिनाम्
citizens and followers
यथा-विधि-उपसंगम्य
as per system, met
सर्वेषाम् मानम्-आदधे
and to everyone honour gave
The Lord, then met everyone there, the friends, citizens and followers and as per system honoured them all.
प्रह्णाभिवादनाश्लेषकरस्पर्शस्मितेक्षणै: ।
आश्वास्य चाश्वपाकेभो वरैश्चाभिमतैर्विभु: ॥२२॥
प्रह्ण-अभिवादन-आश्लेष-
bowing, greeting, embracing,
कर-स्पर्श-स्मित-ईक्षणै:
hands holding, smiling, looking at,
आश्वास्य च-आश्वपाकेभ्य:
consoling, and even the down trodden
वरै:-च-अभिमतै:-विभु:
with boons of choice, The Lord
The Lord greeted even the down trodden with bowing, greetings, embracing, holding hands, smiling and endearing looks and consoling them with boons of their choice.
स्वयं च गुरुभिर्विप्रै: सदारै: स्थविरैरपि ।
आशीर्भिर्युज्यमानोऽन्यैर्वन्दिभिश्चाविशत्पुरम् ॥२३॥
स्वयम् च गुरुभि:-विप्रै:
Himself and by teachers and Braahmanas
सदारै: स्थविरै:-अपि
along with their wives and also the aged
आशीर्भि:-युज्यमान:-
blessed including
अन्यै:-वन्दिभि:-
by other panegyrists
च-आविशत्-पुरम्
and entered the city
And He Himself was blessed by teachers and Braahmanas with their wives, the aged, and by the other panegyrists. He then entered the city.
राजमार्गं गते कृष्णे द्वारकाया: कुलस्त्रिय: ।
हर्म्याण्यारुरुहुर्विप्र तदीक्षणमहोत्सवा: ॥२४॥
राज-मार्गम् गते कृष्णे
on the main road, proceeded Krishna
द्वारकाया: कुल-स्त्रिय:
of Dwaarakaa, the gentle women
हर्म्याणि-आरुरुहु:-विप्र
the terrace tops climbed, O Shaunaka!
तत्-ईक्षण महोत्सवा:
His sight to greatly celebrate
Krishna proceeded on the main road of Dwaaraka. Just then, the gentle women of Dwaaraka climbed to their terrace tops to highly celebrate the sight of Krishna.
नित्यं निरीक्षमाणानां यदपि द्वारकौकसाम् ।
नैव तृप्यन्ति हि दृश: श्रियोधामाङ्गमच्युतम् ॥२५॥
नित्यम् निरीक्षमाणानाम्
everyday having to see
यदपि द्वारका-औकसाम्
even though, Dwaarakaa residents
न-एव तृप्यन्ति हि दृश:
not but are satisfied, indeed eyes
श्रिय:-धाम-अङ्गम्-
prosperity's abode, the beloved
अच्युतम्
of Achyuta (Krishna)
Even though, every day, the residents of Dwaaraka get to see the beloved Achyuta, Who is the abode of prosperity (Shree, Lakshmi), their eyes are indeed never satisfied.
श्रियो निवासो यस्योर: पानपात्रं मुखं दृषाम् ।
बाहवो लोकपालानां सारङ्गाणां पदाम्बुजम् ॥२६॥
श्रिय: निवास: यस्य-उर:
Lakshmi's abode, Whose bosom (is)
पान-पात्रम् मुखम् दृषाम्
drinking cup face of the eyes
बाहव: लोक-पालानाम्
arms (of) the world's guardians
सारङ्गाणाम् पद-अम्बुजम्
of the bee like (devotees), the feet lotus
Whose, i.e., Krishna's bosom is the abode of goddess Lakshmi, His face is a drinking cup for every ones eyes, His arms are the abode of the gaurdians of the worlds, and His lotus feet are the resort of the bee like devotees.
सितातपत्रव्यजनैरुपस्कृत: प्रसूनवर्षैरभिवर्षित: पथि ।
पिशङ्गवासा वनमालया बभौ घनो यथार्कोडुपचापवैद्युतै: ॥२७॥

उडुप-चाप-वैद्युतै:
Moon, rainbow and lightening
He, Krishna, shone on the path, which was well scatterred by the flowers which were showered on Krishna, with His silver umbrella, a pair of chaamaras (fans) being waved on both sides, in His yellow robes and garlands of sylvan flowers, just as the clouds shine by the Sun the Moon the rainbow and lightenings.
प्रविष्टस्तु गृहं पित्रो: परिष्वक्त: स्वमातृभि: ।
ववन्दे शिरसा सप्त देवकीप्रमुखा मुदा ॥२८॥
प्रविष्ट:-तु गृहम् पित्रो:
entering then the house of parents
परिष्वक्त: स्व-मातृभि:
embraced by His mothers
ववन्दे शिरसा सप्त
bowed with head seven
देवकी-प्रमुखा: मुदा
Devaki mainly with pleasure
He entered His parents palace and was embraced by His seven mothers, mainly Devaki. He too bowed His head to His mothers with pleasure.
ता: पुत्रमङ्कमारोप्य स्नेहस्नुतपयोधरा: ।
हर्ष विह्वलितात्मान: सिषिचुर्नेत्रजैर्जलै: ॥२९॥
ता: पुत्रम्-अङ्कम्-आरोप्य
they, son in lap placing
स्नेह-स्नुत-पयोधरा:
with affection flowing breasted
हर्ष विह्वलित-आत्मान:
with joy excited hearts
सिषिचु:-नेत्रजै:-जलै:
bathed (Him) with eyes' waters (tears)
The mothers were besides themselves with joy, and with their breasts flowing with affection, they placed Him on the lap and with excited hearts bathed Him in tears.
अथाविशत् स्वभवनं सर्वकाममनुत्तमम् ।
प्रासादा यत्र पत्नीनां सहस्राणि च षोडश ॥३०॥
अथ-आविशत् स्व-भवनम्
then entered own palace
सर्व-कामम्-अनुत्तमम्
in every way well equipped and unsurpassed
प्रासादा: यत्र पत्नीनाम्
mansions where of wives
सहस्राणि च षोडश
a thousands and sixteen
Then He entered His own palace which was super-surpassed and well equipped in every manner and where there were mansions of His sixteen thousand wives.
पत्न्य: पतिं प्रोष्य गृहानुपागतं विलोक्य संजातमनोमहोत्सवा: ।
उत्तस्थुरारात् सहसाऽऽसनाशयात् साकं व्रतैर्व्रीडितलोचनानना: ॥३१॥
पत्न्य: पतिम् प्रोष्य
the wives, husband from (from) tour
गृह-अनुपागतम् विलोक्य
to house returned seeing
संजात मन:-महोत्सवा:
became with hearts celebrating (His return)
उत्तस्थु:-आरात्
came and stood near
सहसा-आसन-आशयात्
suddenly seat and thought (abandoning)
साकम् व्रतै:-
with the vows
व्रीडित-लोचन-आनना
with shy eyes and face
As the wives saw their husband returning to the house from the tour, their hearts were full of joy as they celebrated His coming back by suddenly abondoning their seats, thoughts and vows and came and stood near Him.
तमात्मजैर्दृष्टिभिरन्तरात्मना दुरन्तभावा: परिरेभिरे पतिम् ।
निरुद्धमप्यास्रवदम्बुनेत्रयोर्विलज्जतीनां भृगुवर्य वैक्लवात् ॥३२॥
तम्-आत्मजै:
Him, with sons
दृष्टिभि:-अरन्तर-आत्मना
by sight and from core of heart
दुरन्त-भावा:
(the queens) with deep feeling
परिरेभिरे पतिम्
embraced (their) husband
निरुद्धम्-अपि-
held back even
आस्रवत्-अम्बु-नेत्रयो:-
flowed down tears from eyes
विलज्जतीनाम्
of the bashful ones
भृगुवर्य
O foremost of the Bhrigus! (Shaunaka)
वैक्लवात्
out of desperation
O foremost of the Bhrigus, Shaunaka! Along with their sons, the queens, with deep feelings, embraced their husband and from the core of their hearts, with their eyes, and the bashful ones let their held back tears roll down, out of sheer desperation.
यद्यप्यसौ पार्श्वगतो रहोगत: तथापि तस्याङ्घ्रियुगं नवं नवम् ।
पदे पदे का विरमेत तत्पदात् चलापि यच्छ्रीर्न जहाति कर्हिचित् ॥३३॥
यदि-अपि-असौ पार्श्व-गत:
even if He was near only
रहो-गत: तथा-अपि
in privacy then also
तस्य-अङ्घ्रि-युगम्
His feet both
नवम् नवम् पदे पदे
ever new, for ever,
का विरमेत तत्-पदात्
who will leave from His feet
चला-अपि यत्-श्री:-न
fickle even that Lakshmi does not
जहाति कर्हिचित्
abandon ever
Even though He is always near them only, even in their privacy, they do not leave His ever fresh feet. Which lady would want to give up His feet, which, even Lakshmi, known to be fickle, also does not ever abondon?
एवं नृपाणां क्षितिभारजन्मनाम् अक्षौहिणीभि: परिवृत्ततेजसाम् ।
विधाय वैरं श्वसनो यथानलम् मिथो वधेनोपरतो निरायुध: ॥३४॥
एवम् नृपाणाम्

without arms (He)
He inculcated enimosity among the kings who had become a burdan for the earth for having been born and with their powers increased because of their armies. Just as fire is generated by rubbing of the woods, and then it becomes cool like the wind, they faught among themselves, and having killed each other, He, not bearing any arms, became silent.
स एष नरलोकेऽस्मिन्नवतीर्ण: स्वमायया ।
रेमे स्त्रीरत्नकूटस्थो भगवान् प्राकृतो यथा ॥३५॥
स: एष: नर-लोके-अस्मिन्-
He This, in mortal world this
अवतीर्ण: स्व-मायया रेमे
incarnated by own Maaya, sported
स्त्री-रत्न-कूटस्थ:
the ladies supreme among
भगवान् प्राकृत: यथा
The Lord, mortal man like
He, This Lord Himself took incarnation in this mortal world by His own prowess, the Maayaa. He sported among the most supreme ladies just like a mortal man.
उद्दामभावपिशुनामलवल्गुहासव्रीडावलोकनिहतो मदनोऽपि यासाम् ।
सम्मुह्य चापमजहात्प्रमदोत्तमास्ता यस्येन्द्रियं विमथितुं कुहकैर्न शेकु: ॥३६॥
उद्दाम-भाव-पिशुन-
(the queens') intoxicated state, indicated by
अमल-वल्गु-हास-
guileless sweet smile
व्रीडा-अवलोक-निहत:
shy looks, struck
मदन:-अपि यासाम्
Cupid also, whose
सम्मुह्य चापम्-अजहात्-
fainted, (his) bow abandoned
प्रमदा-उत्तमा:-ता:-
ladies superb these
यस्य-इन्द्रियम् विमथितुम्
Whose mind to disturb
कुहकै:-न शेकु:
by (their amorous) gestures could not
The intoxicated state of the queens was indicated by their guileless and sweet smile and shy looks, which stung Cupid also and made him abondon his bow. Yet, the amorous gestures of these superb ladies, were not able to disturb the serenity of His mind.
तमयं मन्यते लोको ह्यसङ्गमपि सङ्गिनम् ।
आत्मौपम्येन मनुजं व्यापृण्वानं यतोऽबुध: ॥३७॥
तम्-अयम् मन्यते लोक:
Him This, understand people
हि-असङ्गम्-अपि सङ्गिनम्
indeed non-attached also (as) attached
आत्म-औपम्येन मनुजम्
self like man
व्यापृण्वानम् यत:-अबुध:
engaged because ignorant
The people like themselves, understand Him, Who is non-attached, to be attached, because He engages into activities like them.
एतदीशनमीशस्य प्रकृतिस्थोऽपि तद्गुणै: ।
न युज्यते सदाऽऽत्मस्थैर्यथा बुद्धिस्तदाश्रया ॥३८॥
एतत्-ईशनम्-ईशस्य
this is the divinity of The Lord
प्रकृतिस्थ:-अपि तत्-गुणै:
abiding in Prakriti by its Gunas
न युज्यते सदा-आत्मस्थै:-
does not get effected, always in the self abiding
यथा बुद्धि:-तत्-आश्रया
just as the mind in His shelter
This is the divinity of The Lord that although He abides in Prakriti, He is absolutely uneffected by its Gunas, just a mind which has taken shelter in Him does not get effected by the gunas of Prakriti which abide in it.
तं मेनिरेऽबला मूढा: स्त्रैणं चानुव्रतं रह: ।
अप्रमाणविदो भर्तुरीश्वरं मतयो यथा ॥३९॥
तम् मेनिरे-अबला: मूढा:
Him mistook the ladies as ignorant,
स्त्रैणम् च-अनुव्रतम् रह:
henpecked and obedient (to them) in private
अप्रमाण-विद: भर्तु:-
majesty not knowing, of the master
ईश्वरम् मतय: यथा
The Lord, the egoistic mind just as
The ignorant ladies mistook him, their master, to be henpecked and obedient to them in their chambers, just as the egoistic mind does not know the majesty of the master Lord.
इतिश्रीमद्भागवते महापुराणे पारमहंस्यां संहितायां प्रथमस्कन्धे
नैमिषीयोपाख्याने श्रीकृष्णद्वारकाप्रवेशो नाम एकादश: अध्याय: ॥११॥
Thus ends the eleventh discourse entitled 'The Entry of Shree Krishna into Dwaarakaa', forming part of the story relating to the Naimisha forest, in Book One of the great and glorious Bhaagavata Puraana.
