Shree Shuka said -
पीते गरे वृषाङ्केण प्रीतास्तेऽमरदानवा: ।
ममन्थुस्तरसा सिन्धुं हविर्धानी ततोऽभवत् ॥१॥
पीते गरे वृषाङ्केण
being drunk the poison, by Lord Shiva
प्रीता:-ते-अमर-दानवा:
delighted they, the gods and demons
ममन्थु:-तरसा सिन्धुम्
churned enthusiastically, the ocean
हविर्धानी तत:-अभवत्
the Kaamadhenu, from that came
After the poison was drunk by Lord Shiva, the gods and demons were very delighted and churned the ocean enthusiastically, from which came the cow of plenty, Kaamadhenu.
तामग्निहोत्रीमृषयो जगृहुर्ब्रह्मवादिन: ।
यज्ञस्य देवयानस्य मेध्याय हविषे नृप ॥२॥
ताम्-अग्निहोत्रीम्-ऋषय:
her, of sacrificial material provider, the sages
जगृहु:-ब्रह्मवादिन:
took, of the Vedas the exponents
यज्ञस्य देवयानस्य
for the sacrifice, to gods' path (leading)
मेध्याय हविषे नृप
for milk, ghee, sacrificial materials for oblation, O King!
O King! The sages, the exponents of the Vedas, took that cow which provides milk ghee etc., materials for oblation in the sacrifices, which lead on the path of the gods.
तत उच्चै:श्रवा नाम हयोऽभूच्चन्द्रपाण्डुर: ।
तस्मिन्बलि: स्पृहां चक्रे नेन्द्र ईश्वरशिक्षया ॥३॥
तत: उच्चै:श्रवा-नाम
after that Uchchaishravaa named
हय:-अभूत्-चन्द्र-पाण्डुर:
horse came, moon like white
तस्मिन्-बलि: स्पृहाम् चक्रे
in that Bali, desire made
न-इन्द्र ईश्वर-शिक्षया
not Indra, by Lord's instruction
After that a horse white like the moon, by the name of Uchchaishravaa, came. Bali had a desire for it and not Indra who was instructed by The Lord.
तत ऐरावतोनाम वारणेन्द्रो विनिर्गत: ।
दन्तैश्चतुर्भि: श्वेताद्रेर्हरन्भगवतो महिम् ॥४॥

then Airaawata named
वारणेन्द्र: विनिर्गत:
elephant king came out
दन्तै:-चतुर्भि: श्वेत-
by teeth four, the white
आद्रे:-हरन्-भगवत: महिम्
mountain's stealing, Lord Shiva's splendour
Then the king of elephants Airaawata came out, his four white teeth were stealing the splendour of the white mountain, Kailaash, the abode of Lord Shiva.
कौस्तुभाख्यमभूद् रत्नं पद्मरागो महोदधे: ।
तस्मिन्हरि: स्पृहां चक्रे वक्षोऽलङ्करणे मणौ ॥५॥
कौस्तुभ-आख्यम्-अभूद् रत्नं
Kaustubha named, came gem
पद्मराग: महोदधे:
Padmaraaga (ruby like), from the great ocean
तस्मिन्-हरि: स्पृहाम् चक्रे
in that Lord Shree Hari, desire placed
वक्ष:-अलङ्करणे मणौ
for bosom adornment with the gem
Next, a Padmaraaga gem (ruby like) named Kaustubha, came up from the great ocean. Lord Shree Hari placed His desire in it, for the adornment of His chest with the gem.
ततोऽभवत् पारिजात: सुरलोकविभूषणम् ।
पूरयत्यर्थिनो योऽर्थै: शश्वद् भुवि यथा भवान् ॥६॥
तत:-अभवत् पारिजात:
then appeared Paareejaatas (the tree)
सुर-लोक-विभूषणम्
of the gods' realm the ornament
पूरयति-अर्थिन: य:-अर्थै:
fulfils of the desiring, who the desires,
शश्वद् भुवि यथा भवान्
incessantly, on the earth just as you
Then, there appeared the Paareejaatas tree, which incessantly fulfils the desires of the desirous, just as (O King) you do on this earth.
ततश्चाप्सरसो जाता निष्ककण्ठ्य: सुवासस: ।
रमण्य: स्वर्गिणां वल्गुगतिलीलावलोकनै: ॥७॥
तत:-च-अप्सरस: जाता:
then and the Apsaras came forth,
निष्क-कण्ठ्य: सुवासस:
with golden necklaces in the neck, in beautiful garments
रमण्य: स्वर्गिणाम्
entertaining the celestial people
वल्गु-गति लीला-अवलोकनै:
by charming gait and playful glances
Then, there came forth the Apsaras who had golden necklaces in their necks and were beautifully clothed. They entertained the celestial beings by their charming gait and their playful glances.
ततश्चाविरभूत् साक्षाच्छ्री रमा भगवत्परा ।
रञ्जयन्ती दिश: कान्त्या विद्युत् सौदामनी यथा ॥८॥
तत:-च-आविरभूत् साक्षात्-
after that and appeared Herself

Effulgent Goddess Ramaa, to The Lord devoted
रञ्जयन्ती दिश: कान्त्या
illumining the quarters by splendour
विद्युत् सौदामनी यथा
lightening brightens just as
And then, after that, there appeared Effulgence personified Goddess Ramaa Herself, devoted to The Lord, illumining the quarters by Her splendour just as the brightness of lightening.
तस्यां चक्रु: स्पृहां सर्वे ससुरासुरमानवा: ।
रूपौदार्यवयोवर्णमहिमाक्षिप्तचेतस: ॥९॥
तस्याम् चक्रु: स्पृहाम् सर्वे
in her placed longing all
ससुर-असुर-मानवा:
along with the gods, the demons and human beings
रूप-औदार्य-वय:-वर्ण-
by beauty, nobility, age, complexion
महिमा-आक्षिप्त-चेतस:
glory awe-struck minded
All gods, demons, human beings including, longed for Her, with their minds awestricken with the glory of Her astounding beauty, nobility, fair age and complexion.
तस्या आसनमानिन्ये महेन्द्रो महदद्भुतम् ।
मूर्तिमत्य: सरिच्छ्रेष्ठा हेमकुम्भैर्जलं शुचि ॥१०॥
तस्या: आसनम्-आनिन्ये
for Her seat brought
महेन्द्र: महत्-अद्भुतम्
the great Indra, very wonderful
मूर्तिमत्य: सरित्-श्रेष्ठा:
in person, the rivers principal
हेम-कुम्भै:-जलम् शुचि
in golden pots, water pure
The great Indra brought a very wonderful throne for Her, and the principal rivers, in person brought pure water in golden pots.
आभिषेचनिका भूमिराहरत् सकलौषधी: ।
गाव: पञ्च पवित्राणि वसन्तो मधुमाधवौ ॥११॥
आभिषेचनिका भूमि:-
for ablution, earth
आहरत् सकल-औषधी:
brought all herbs
गाव: पञ्च पवित्राणि
the cows, the five sacred products,
वसन्त: मधु-माधवौ
spring (products of) next two months
The earth brought all the herbs for Her ablution, the cows gave their five sacred products, and the season of spring, Basant, brought the products of fruits and flowers of the next two months also.
ऋषय: कल्पयाञ्चक्रुरभिषेकं यथाविधि ।
जगुर्भद्राणि गन्धर्वा नट्यश्चननृतुर्जगु: ॥१२॥
ऋषय: कल्पयान्-चक्रु:
the sages carried out
अभिषेकम् यथा-विधि
the ablution as per rites
जगु:-भद्राणि गन्धर्वा:
sang auspicious songs, the Gandharvas
नट्य:-च ननृतु:-जगु:
the dancers and danced and sang
The sages conducted the ablution according to the procedures mentioned in the scriptures. The Gandharvas sang auspicious songs and the dancers danced and sang.
मेघा मृदङ्गपणवमुरजानकगोमुखान् ।
व्यनादयञ्छङ्खवेणुवीणास्तुमुलनि:स्वनान् ॥१३॥
मेघा मृदङ्ग-पणव-मुरज-
the clouds, the tomtoms,tabors, drums,
आनक-गोमुखान्
double drums, clarinets
व्यनादयन्-शङ्ख-वेणु-वीणा:-
sounded, conch, flute, lute
तुमुल-नि:स्वनान्
in resounding fanfare
The clouds sounded the tom-toms, tabors, drums, double drums, clarinets, and the conch, flute, lute in resounding fanfare.
ततोऽभिषिषिचुर्देवीं श्रियं पद्मकरां सतीम् ।
दिगिभा: पूर्णकलशै: सूक्तवाक्यैर्द्विजेरितै: ॥१४॥
तत:-अभिषिषिचु:-देवीम्
then, bathed, the Goddess
श्रियम् पद्म-कराम् सतीम्
Beauty incarnate, lotus in hand, virtue embodied
दिगिभा: पूर्ण-कलशै:
the elephants of the quarters with full pots
सूक्त-वाक्यै:-द्विज-ईरितै:
by sacred chants, by the Braahmanas chanted
Then the elephants of the quarters, bathed the beauty incarnate, virtue embodied Goddess, with full pots in accompaniment of sacred chants chanted by the Braahmanas.
समुद्र: पीतकौशेयवाससी समुपाहरत् ।
वरुण: स्रजं वैजयन्तीं मधुना मत्तषट्पदाम् ॥१५॥
समुद्र: पीत-कौशेय-

Varuna garland of sylvan flowers
मधुना मत्त-षट्पदाम्
by smell intoxicated bees
The ocean presented a garment of yellow silk, and Varuna presented a garland of sylvan flowers with intoxicated bees hovering around it, due to the sweet smell.
भूषणानि विचित्राणि विश्वकर्मा प्रजापति: ।
हारं सरस्वती पद्ममजो नागाश्च कुण्डले ॥१६॥
भूषणानि विचित्राणि

हारम् सरस्वती पद्मम्-

अज: नागा:-च कुण्डले
Brahmaa, and the snakes ear-rings
The Prajaapati Vishvakarmaa presented to Her various ornaments, Sarasvati gave the necklace and the snakes gave a pair of ear-rings.
तत: कृतस्वस्त्ययनोत्पलस्रजं नदद्द्विरेफां परिगृह्य पाणिना ।
चचाल वक्त्रं सुकपोलकुण्डलं सव्रीडहासं दधती सुशोभनम् ॥१७॥
तत: कृत-स्वस्ति-अयन-
then, having read the auspicious chants
उत्पल-स्रजम् नदद्-द्विरेफम्
a lotus garland, with buzzing bees
परिगृह्य पाणिना
holding in the hand
चचाल वक्त्रम् सुकपोल-कुण्डलम्
moved with face with sweet cheeks and ear-rings
सव्रीड-हासम्
a bashful smile
दधती सुशोभनम्
spreading glorious beauty
Then, as the Braahmanas had done the auspicious chants, The Goddess moved with a lotus garland buzzing with bees in Her hand. She, with her charming face with sweet cheeks and dangling ear-rings and a bashful smile spread around glorious beauty.
स्तनद्वयं चातिकृशोदरी समं निरन्तरं चन्दनकुङ्कुमोक्षितम् ।
ततस्ततो नूपुरवल्गुशिञ्जितैर्विसर्पती हेमलतेव सा बभौ ॥१८॥
स्तन-द्वयम् च-अति-
breasts a pair of, and very
कृश-उदरी समम् निरन्तरम्
lean waist, symmetrical and close
चन्दन-कुङ्कुम्-उक्षितम्
sandal paste and saffron's sprinkled
तत:-तत: नूपुर-वल्गु-शिञ्जितै:-
here and there, anklets sweet sounding
विसर्पती हेम-लता-इव सा बभौ
moving, golden creeper like She shone
She shone like a golden creeper with a pair of close symmetrical breasts, a very lean waist, sprinkled with sandalwood paste and saffron, and moving here and there with her sweet sounding anklets.
विलोकयन्ती निरवद्यमात्मन: पदं ध्रुवं चाव्यभिचारिसद्गुणम् ।
गन्धर्वयक्षासुरसिद्धचारणत्रैविष्टपेयादिषु नान्वविन्दत ॥१९॥
विलोकयन्ती निरवद्यम्-
looking for, flaw-less,
आत्मन: पदम् ध्रुवम्
for Herself, place (husband) eternal
च-अव्यभिचारि-सद्गुणम्
and without blemish, virtuous
गन्धर्व-यक्ष-असुर-सिद्ध-
(among) the Gandharvas, Yakshas, demons, Siddhas,
चारण त्रैविष्टपेय-आदिषु
Chaaranas, the gods and others
न-अन्वविन्दत
did not find
She went about looking for an (place) eternal husband for Herself, flawless, without blemishes, and with eternal and all virtues, among the Gandharvas, Yakshas, the demons, Siddhas, Chaaranas, the gods and others, but did not find one.
नूनं तपो यस्य न मन्युनिर्जयो ज्ञानं क्वचित् तच्च न सङ्गवर्जितम् ।
कश्चिन्महांस्तस्य न कामनिर्जय: स ईश्वर: किं परतोव्यपाश्रय: ॥२०॥
नूनम् तप: यस्य न मन्यु-
surely austerities are not whose, not on anger
निर्जय: ज्ञानम् क्वचित्
control, wisdom is somewhere
तत्-च न सङ्ग-वर्जितम्
that and not is attachment without
कश्चित्-महान्-तस्य न
some one is great, his is not
काम-निर्जय: स: ईश्वर: किम्
passion conquered, he is a lord, is it
परत:-व्यपाश्रय:
on others dependent
Surely one who has no control on his anger, his austerities are meaning less, somewhere there is wisdom but that is not without attachment, some one is great but has not conquered passion, how can he be a lord who is dependent on others?
धर्म क्वचित् तत्र न भूतसौहृदं त्याग: क्वचित् तत्र न मुक्तिकारणम् ।
वीर्यं न पुंसोऽस्त्यजवेगनिष्कृतं न हि द्वितीयो गुणसङ्गवर्जित: ॥२१॥
धर्म: क्वचित् तत्र न
righteousness somewhere, there is not
भूत-सौहृदम् त्याग: क्वचित्
in beings love, dispassion in some
तत्र न मुक्ति-कारणम्
there is not reason for liberation
वीर्यम् न पुंस:-अस्ति-
prowess not in men is
अज-वेग-निष्कृतम् न हि
Time ravages immunity, not indeed
द्वितीय: गुण-सङ्ग-वर्जित:
the others, (though) Gunas association devoid of
Somewhere there is righteousness but no love for beings, some have dispassion but that is not enough for liberation, men have prowess but they are not immune to the ravages of Time, and the others though devoid of association with Gunas, are (not desireable).
क्वचिच्चिरायुर्न हि शीलमङ्गलं क्वचित् तदप्यस्ति न वेद्यमायुष: ।
यत्रोभयं कुत्र च सोऽप्यमङ्गल: सुमङ्गल: कश्चन न काङ्क्षते हि माम् ॥२२॥
क्वचित्-चिरायु:-न हि
someone is long-lived, not indeed
शील-मङ्गलम् क्वचित्
is amiable and auspicious, somewhere
तत्-अपि-अस्ति
that also is there
न वेद्यम्-आयुष:
not is know the life span
यत्र-उभयम् कुत्र च
where there are both somewhere and
स:-अपि-अमङ्गल:
he also is inauspicious
सुमङ्गल: कश्चन
auspicious is someone
न काङ्क्षते हि माम्
does not covet indeed me
Someone is long-lived but is not amiable and auspicious, some one may have these but the life span is not known, someone may have both of these, yet he is inauspicious. There is One who is auspicious, but He does not covet me.
एवं विमृश्याव्यभिचारिसद्गुणैर्वरं निजैकाश्रयतयागुणाश्रयम् ।
वव्रे वरं सर्वगुणैरपेक्षितं रमा मुकुन्दं निरपेक्षमीप्सितम् ॥२३॥
एवम् विमृश्य-अव्यभिचारि-
thus concluding, of good conduct,
सद्गुणै:-वरम् निज-एक-
with high virtues exalted, for Herself the One
आश्रयतया गुण-आश्रयम्
support, of the Gunas the support
वव्रे-वरम् सर्व-गुणै:-अपेक्षितम्
chose the husband, by all the excellences wooed
रमा मुकुन्दम्
(Goddess) Rama, Mukunda (chose)
निरपेक्षम्-ईप्सितम्
the disinterested, coveted (by Her)
Thus concluding, The Goddess Ramaa chose Mukunda as her husband, the exalted One by His everlasting virtues, the One support for Herself, the Support of the three Gunas, Who is wooed by excellences, yet is disinterested and was coveted by Her.
तस्यांसदेश उशतीं नवकञ्जमालां माद्यन्मधुव्रतवरूथगिरोपघुष्टाम् ।
तस्थौ निधाय निकटे तदुर: स्वधाम सव्रीडहासविकसन्नयनेन याता ॥२४॥
तस्य-अंस-देशे उशतीम्
on His shoulders' sides, the beautiful
नव-कञ्ज-मालाम्
fresh lotus garland
माद्यन्-मधुव्रत-वरूथ-
by intoxicated bees swarms
गिरा-उपघुष्टाम्
buzzing resonate
तस्थौ निधाय निकटे
stood, placing near
तत्-उर: स्व-धाम
His bosom , own abode
सव्रीड-हास-
with bashful smile
विकसत्-नयनेन याता
blooming glance attained
She placed the beautiful fresh lotus garland abuzz with the buzzing sound of intoxicated bees, on the sides of His shoulders, and stood near Him, having attained her permanent abode in His bosom with Her bashful smile blooming lotus like glance.
तस्या: श्रियस्त्रिजगतो जनको जनन्या वक्षोनिवासमकरोत् परमं विभूते: ।
श्री: स्वा: प्रजा: सकरुणेन निरीक्षणेन यत्र स्थितैधयत साधिपतींस्त्रिलोकान् ॥२५॥
तस्या: श्रिय:-त्रि-जगत: जनक:
of Her, Goddess Shree, of the three worlds The Father
जनन्या वक्ष:-निवासम्-अकरोत्
for the mother, the bosom, abode made
परमम् विभूते:
of the epitome of resources
श्री: स्वा: प्रजा: सकरुणेन
Goddess Laxmi Her own people, by compassionate
निरीक्षणेन यत्र स्थित:-ऐधयत
glances, where placed enhanced
स-अधिपतीन्-त्रि-लोकान्
along with the rulers of the three worlds
The Father of the three worlds, made His bosom the abode of the mother, Goddess Shree, the epitome of all resources. Placed there, Goddess Laxmi enhanced the welfare of Her own people and of the three worlds along with the rulers, by Her compassionate glances.
शङ्खतूर्यमृदङ्गानां वादित्राणां पृथु: स्वन: ।
देवानुगानां सस्त्रीणां नृत्यतां गायतामभूत् ॥२६॥
शङ्ख-तूर्य-मृदङ्गानाम्
of conch, trumpets, and drums
वादित्राणाम् पृथु: स्वन:
musical instruments, great sound (issued)
देव-अनुगानाम् सस्त्रीणाम्
the gods following, with their wives
नृत्यताम् गायताम्-अभूत्
dancing and singing was done
A great sound issued from the conch, trumpets drums and other musical instruments. The gods followed by their wives danced and sang.
ब्रह्मरुद्राङ्गिरोमुख्या: सर्वे विश्वसृजो विभुम् ।
ईडिरेऽवितथैर्मन्त्रैस्तल्लिङ्गै: पुष्पवर्षिण: ॥२७॥
ब्रह्म-रुद्र-अङ्गिर:-मुख्या:
Brahmaa, Rudra, Angiraa, the prominent
सर्वे विश्वसृज: विभुम्
all, the creators, The Lord
ईडिरे-अवितथै:-मन्त्रै:-
felicitated by truth revealing sacred texts
तत्-लिङ्गै: पुष्प-वर्षिण:
and by His deeds, flowers showering
All the prominent gods, Brahmaa, Rudra, Angiraa sage, the creators of the worlds, and the others, felicitated The Lord by chanting the truth revealing sacred texts and singing of His deeds, as they showered flowers.
श्रिया विलोकिता देवा: सप्रजापतय: प्रजा: ।
शीलादिगुणसम्पन्ना लेभिरे निर्वृत्तिं पराम् ॥२८॥
श्रिया विलोकिता देवा:
by The Goddess looked at, the gods,
सप्रजापतय: प्रजा:
along with the creators of the worlds, created beings
शील-आदि गुण-सम्पन्ना
amiability and other virtues became rich in
लेभिरे निर्वृत्तिम् पराम्
and attained peace supreme
Looked at by The Goddess, the gods, along with the creators of the worlds, and the created beings became rich in amiability and other virtues, and attained supreme peace.
नि:सत्त्वा लोलुपा राजन् निरुद्योगा गतत्रपा: ।
यदा चोपेक्षिता लक्ष्म्या बभूवुर्दैत्यदानवा: ॥२९॥
नि:सत्त्वा: लोलुपा: राजन्
powerless, greedy, O King!
निरुद्योगा: गतत्रपा:
effortless, devoid of shame
यदा च-उपेक्षिता: लक्ष्म्या
when and ignored by Laxmi
बभूवु:-दैत्य-दानवा:
became the Daityas and Daanavas
O King! And ignored by Laxmi the Daityas and Daanavas became powerless, greedy, effortless and devoid of shame.
अथासीद् वारुणी देवी कन्या कमललोचना ।
असुरा जगृहुस्तां वै हरेरनुमतेन ते ॥३०॥
अथ-आसीद् वारुणी देवी
then there was Vaarunee goddess
कन्या कमल-लोचना
maiden lotus eyed
असुरा: जगृहु:-ताम्
the Asuras took her
वै हरे:-अनुमतेन ते
of course by Shree Hari's approval they
Then, there appeared a lotus eyed maiden, goddess Vaarunee. Of course by Shree Hari's permission, they, the Asuras took her.
अथोदधेर्मथ्यमानात् काश्यपैरमृतार्थिभि: ।
उदतिष्ठन्महाराज पुरुष: परमाद्भुत: ॥३१॥
अथ-उदधे:-मथ्यमानात्
then from the ocean being churned
काश्यपै:-अमृत-अर्थिभि:
by the Kashyapa's (gods and demons), nectar desirous
उदतिष्ठन्-महाराज
came out, O Emperor!
पुरुष: परम-अद्भुत:
a person most wonderful
O Emperor! Then, from the ocean being churned by the sons of Kashyapa, the gods and the demons, who were desirous of the nectar, there came out a most wonderful person.
दीर्घपीवरदोर्दण्ड: कम्बुग्रीवोऽरुणेक्षण: ।
श्यामलस्तरुण: स्रग्वी सर्वाभरणभूषित: ॥३२॥
दीर्घ-पीवर-दो:-दण्ड:

कम्बु-ग्रीव:-अरुण-ईक्षण:

श्यामल:-तरुण: स्रग्वी
dark brown, young, with a garland
सर्व-आभरण-भूषित:

He had two long and stout arms, a conch shaped neck, red eyes, was wearing a garland and was decked with all ornaments.
पीतवासा महोरस्क: सुमृष्टमणिकुण्डल: ।
स्निग्धकुञ्चितकेशान्त: सुभग: सिंहविक्रम: ॥३३॥
पीतवासा महोरस्क:
in yellow garment, broad chest
सुमृष्ट-मणि-कुण्डल:
graced with inlaid gems ear-rings
स्निग्ध-कुञ्चित-केशान्त:
dark soft hair tips,
सुभग: सिंह-विक्रम:
charming, with a lion's gait
He was wearing a yellow garment, had a broad chest, was graced with a pair of gem studded ear-rings, with dark and soft hair tips, a charming look and the gait of a lion.
अमृतापूर्णकलशं बिभ्रद् वलयभूषित: ।
स वै भगवत: साक्षाद्विष्णोरंशांशसम्भव: ॥३४॥
अमृत-आपूर्ण-कलशम्
nectar filled pot
बिभ्रद् वलय-भूषित:
holding, wristlets adorned with
स: वै भगवत: साक्षात्-
he surely of The Lord, Himself
विष्णो:-अंश-अंश-सम्भव:
Vishnu's part's part created
He was holding a pot filled with nectar, and was adorned with wristlets, he surely was created from a part of the part of The Lord Vishnu Himself.
धन्वन्तरिरिति ख्यात आयुर्वेददृगिज्यभाक् ।
तमालोक्यासुरा: सर्वे कलशं चामृताभृतम् ॥३५॥
धन्वन्तरि:-इति ख्यात:
Dhanvantaree, thus well known
आयुर्वेद-दृक्-इज्य-भाक्
Aaayurveda propounders, sacrifice (offerings) sharing
तम्-आलोक्य-असुरा: सर्वे
him seeing, the Asuras all
कलशम् च-अमृत-आभृतम्
the pot and nectar filled
He was known as Dhanvantaree, the propounders of Aaayurveda medicine, and had a share in the sacrificial offerings. The Asuras saw him and the pot full of nectar.
लिप्सन्त: सर्ववस्तूनि कलशं तरसाहरन् ।
नीयमानेऽसुरैस्तस्मिन्कलशेऽमृतभाजने ॥३६॥
लिप्सन्त: सर्व-वस्तूनि
longing for all articles
कलशम् तरसा-आहरन्
the pot quickly snatching
नीयमाने-असुरै: तस्मिन्-
and carried by the Asuras, that
कलशे-अमृत-भाजने
pot, nectar holding
They, the Asuras, longing for everything, the pot holding the nectar was quickly snatched and carried away by them.
विषण्णमनसो देवा हरिं शरणमाययु: ।
इति तद्दैन्यमालोक्य भगवान्भृत्यकामकृत् ।
मा खिद्यत मिथोऽर्थं व: साधयिष्ये स्वमायया ॥३७॥
विषण्ण-मनस: देवा:
with depressed minds, the gods
हरिम् शरणम्-आययु:
Shree Hari's shelter took to
इति तत्-दैन्यम्-आलोक्य
in this manner their helplessness seeing,
भगवान्-भृत्य-काम-कृत्
The Lord, of the devotees purpose fulfilling
मा खिद्यत मिथ:-अर्थम् व:
'Do not be depressed, mutual purpose of you both
साधयिष्ये स्व-मायया
will fulfil, by My own Maayaa'
The gods, with depressed minds sought the shelter of Shree Hari. The Lord eager to accomplish the wishes of the devotees, saw their helplessness and said, 'Do not be depressed, I will fulfil youth mutual desire, by My own Maayaa.'
मिथ: कलिरभूत्तेषां तदर्थे तर्षचेतसाम् ।
अहं पूर्वमहं पूर्वं न त्वं न त्वमिति प्रभो ॥३८॥
मिथ: कलि:-अभूत्-तेषाम्
amongst them quarrel arose, in them
तत्-अर्थे तर्ष-चेतसाम्
for its acquiring, of nectar obsessed minds
अहम् पूर्वम्-अहम् पूर्वम्
Me first, me first,
न त्वम् न त्वम्-इति प्रभो
not you not you' thus, O lord!
O lord! Amongst them there arose a quarrel, their minds being obsessed by the acquiring of the nectar. They cried,' Me first, me first, not you, not you,' thus.
देवा: स्वं भागमर्हन्ति ये तुल्यायासहेतव: ।
सत्रयाग इवैतस्मिन्नेष धर्म: सनातन: ॥३९॥
देवा: स्वम् भागम्-अर्हन्ति
the gods their own share deserve
ये तुल्य आयास-हेतव:
who equally effort contributing to the cause
सत्रयाग इव-एतस्मिन्-
community sacrifice like (conducted) in this,
एष: धर्म: सनातन:
this is eternal law
'The gods deserve their own share, as they have equally contributed to the effort towards this cause, and that is the eternal law, like in the community sacrifice.
इति स्वान्प्रत्यषेधन्वै दैतेया जातमत्सरा: ।
दुर्बला: प्रबलान् राजन् गृहीतकलशान् मुहु: ॥४०॥
इति स्वान् प्रत्यषेधत्-वै
so, their own protested indeed
दैतेया जात-मत्सरा:
the Daityas with aroused jealousy
दुर्बला: प्रबलान् राजन्
the weaker ones the stronger ones, O King!
गृहीत-कलशान् मुहु:
holding the pot again and again
So, O King! the weaker Daityas overcome by jealousy, again and again protested against their own stronger Daityas who were holding the pot indeed.
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे विष्णु: सर्वोपायविदीश्वर: ।
योषिद्रूपमनिर्देश्यं दधार परमद्भुतम् ॥४१॥
एतस्मिन्-अन्तरे विष्णु:
meanwhile, Lord Vishnu
सर्व-उपाय-वित्-ईश्वर:
all tricks Knower, The Mighty
योषित्-रूपम्-अनिर्देश्यम्
in damsel form, indescribable
दधार परम्-अद्भुतम्
assumed, most amazing
In the meantime, Lord Vishnu, The Mighty, Knower of all tricks, assumed a most amazing and indescribable form of a damsel.
प्रेक्षणीयोत्पलश्यामं सर्वावयवसुन्दरम् ।
समानकर्णाभरणं सुकपोलोन्नसाननम् ॥४२॥
प्रेक्षणीय-उत्पल-श्यामम्
worth looking at, like blue lotus dark
सर्व-अवयव-सुन्दरम्
all limbs beautiful
समान-कर्ण-आभरणम्
equally the ears and the ornaments
सुकपोल-उन्नस-आननम्
beautiful cheeks, prominent nose, face
She was worth looking at intently, with blue lotus like complexion, beautiful limbs, a face with equally beautiful ears and ornaments, cheeks and a prominent nose.
नवयौवननिर्वृत्तस्तनभारकृशोदरम् ।
मुखामोदानुरक्तालिझङ्कारोद्विग्नलोचनम् ॥४३॥
नव-यौवन-निर्वृत्त-स्तन-
budding youth, full breasts
भार-कृश-उदरम्
by the weight slender waist
मुख-आमोद-अनुरक्त-अलि-
mouth's fragrance attracted bees
झङ्कार-उद्विग्न-लोचनम्
humming, distressed eyes
Due to her budding youth, she had full breasts, because of the weight of which her waist was slender. Attracted by the fragrance of her mouth the bees hummed around making her eyes distressed.
बिभ्रत् स्वकेशभारेण मालामुत्फुल्लमल्लिकाम् ।
सुग्रीवकण्ठाभरणं सुभुजाङ्गदभूषितम् ॥४४॥
बिभ्रत् स्व-केश-भारेण
flaunting on own hair curls
मालाम्-उत्फुल्ल-मल्लिकाम्
garland of blooming jasmine (flowers)
सुग्रीव-कण्ठ-आभरणम्
shapely neck with necklace
सुभुजा-अङ्गद-भूषितम्
shapely arms with armlets adorned
She had flaunted on her own head hair, a garland of blooming jasmine, on the shapely neck a necklace and shapely arms were adorned with armlets.
विरजाम्बरसंवीतनितम्बद्वीपशोभया ।
काञ्च्या प्रविलसद्वल्गुचलच्चरणनूपुरम् ॥४५॥
विरज-अम्बर-संवीत-नितम्ब-
spotless cloth covering hips
द्वीप-शोभया
broad, graced by
काञ्च्या प्रविलसत्-वल्गु-
girdle adding charm winsome
चलत्-चरण-नूपुरम्
gait, feet anklets
A spotless white cloth covered her broad hips the charm of which was enhanced by the girdle, and the anklets of the feet enhanced the charm of the winsome gait.
सव्रीडस्मितविक्षिप्तभ्रूविलासावलोकनै: ।
दैत्ययूथपचेत:सु काममुद्दीपयन् मुहु: ॥४६॥
सव्रीड-स्मित-विक्षिप्त-भ्रू-
with her coy smile, dancing eyebrows
विलास-अवलोकनै:
amorous glances
दैत्य-यूथप-चेत:सु
in the Daitya generals' minds
कामम्-उद्दीपयन् मुहु:
passion kindled again and again
With her coy smile, dancing eyebrows, amorous glances, passion was enkindled in the minds of the Daitya generals.
श्रीमद्भागवते महापुराणे पारमहंस्यां संहितायां अष्टमे स्कन्धे भगवन्मायोपलम्भनं नाम अष्टम: अध्याय: ॥८॥
Thus ends the eighth discourse entitled 'The manifestation (in personal form) of the Lord's (own) potency', in Book Eight of the great and glorious Bhaagavata-Puraana.
