श्री शुक उवाच -
Shree Shuka said -
इत्थं विरिञ्चस्तुतकर्मवीर्य: प्रादुर्बभूवामृतभूरदित्याम् ।

चतुर्भुज: शङ्खगदाब्जचक्र: पिशङ्गवासा नलिनायतेक्षण: ॥१॥


इत्थम् विरिञ्च-स्तुत-कर्म-वीर्य:
when, thus, Brahmaa, extolled exploits, glory
प्रादुर्बभूव-अमृत-भू:-अदित्याम्
descended Immortality personified, in Aditi
चतु:-भुज: शङ्ख-गदा-अब्ज-चक्र:
four armed, conch, mace, lotus, discus,
पिशङ्ग-वासा नलिन-आयत-ईक्षण:
in yellow garment, lotus big eyes

When Brahmaa had thus extolled the exploits and glory of The Lord, He, Immortality personified, descended in Aditi, with four arms holding the conch, mace, lotus and discus, having lotus like big eyes.


श्यामावदातो झषराजकुण्डलत्विषोल्लसच्छ्रीवदनाम्बुज: पुमान् ।

श्रीवत्सवक्षा वलयाङ्गदोल्लसत्किरीटकाञ्चीगुणचारुनूपुर: ॥२॥


श्याम-अवदात: झषराज-
dark complexioned, alligator
कुण्डल-त्विष-उल्लसत्-
earrings brightly shining
श्री-वदन-अम्बुज: पुमान्
beauty of the face lotus, The Supreme Person
श्रीवत्स-वक्षा: वलय-
with Shree Vatsa mark on bosom, bangles,
अङ्गद:-उल्लसत्-किरीट-
armlets, shining diadem
काञ्ची-गुण चारु-नूपुर:
girdle strings, charming anklets

He was dark complexioned, wearing brightly shining alligator earrings, enhancing the beauty of the lotus face, The Supreme Person had the Shree Vatsa mark on the bosom, and was wearing bangles, armlets, a shining diadem, a girdle with strings and a charming pair of anklets.


मधुव्रत व्रातविघुष्टया स्वया विराजित: श्रीवनमालया हरि: ।

प्रजापतेर्वेश्मतम: स्वरोचिषा विनाशयन् कण्ठनिविष्टकौस्तुभ: ॥३॥


मधुव्रत व्रात-विघुष्टया
by the black bees' swarms’ buzzing
स्वया विराजित:
own adorned with
श्री-वन-मालया हरि:
beautiful sylvan flowers' garland Lord Shree Hari
प्रजापते:-वेश्म-तम:
created beings' lord (Kashyapa's) house darkness
स्व-रोचिषा विनाशयन्
by Own lustre destroying
कण्ठ-निविष्ट-कौस्तुभ:
in the neck placed the Kaustubha

The Lord Shree Hari's own beautiful sylvan garland, which He adorned, was buzzing with swarms of black bees. In His neck was placed the Kaustubha and by His lustre, the darkness of the house of the lord of the created beings, Kashyapa, was expelled.


दिश: प्रसेदु: सलिलाशयास्तदा प्रजा: प्रहृष्टा ऋतवो गुणान्विता: ।

द्यौरन्तरिक्षं क्षितिरग्निजिह्वा गावो द्विजा: संजहृषुनगाश्च ॥४॥


दिश: प्रसेदु: सलिल-आशया:-
quarters rejoiced, the water bodies
तदा प्रजा: प्रहृष्टा:
then the people were delighted
ऋतव: गुण-अन्विता:
the seasons of their qualities were full
द्यौ:-अन्तरिक्षम् क्षिति:-
the heavens, the Ariel regions, earth,
अग्नि-जिह्वा गाव: द्विजा:
fire for tongues, (the gods) cows, Braahmanas
संजहृषु:-नगा:-च
were joyful the mountains and

The quarters and the water bodies rejoiced, then, the people were delighted, the seasons were full of their qualities, the heavens, the Ariel regions, the earth, fire for tongues (the gods), the cows, the Braahmanas, and the mountains were joyful.


श्रोणायां श्रवणद्वादश्यां मुहूर्तेऽभिजिति प्रभु: ।

सर्वे नक्षत्रताराद्याश्चक्रुस्तज्जन्म दक्षिणम् ॥५॥


श्रोणायाम् श्रवण-द्वादश्याम्
in the Shrona (moon), in Shraavana, the twelfth
मुहूर्ते-अभिजिति प्रभु:
in the (auspicious hour) Abhijit, The Lord
सर्वे नक्षत्र-तारा-आद्या:
all the lunar mansions, stars and others
चक्रु:-तत्-जन्म दक्षिणम्
rendered His birth propitious

The Lord appeared in the month of Shraavana, on the twelfth day of the bright fortnight, in the Shrona mansion of the moon, in the auspicious hour of Abhijit. All the Lunar mansions, the stars and others, rendered His birth propitious.


द्वादश्यां सवितातिष्ठन्मध्यंदिनगतो नृप ।

विजया नाम सा प्रोक्ता यस्यां जन्म विदुर्हरे: ॥६॥


द्वादश्याम् सविता-तिष्ठन्-
on the twelfth, the Sun placed
मध्यम्-दिन-गत: नृप
in mid-day of birth, O King!
विजया नाम सा प्रोक्ता
'Vijayaa' name, that called by
यस्याम् जन्म विदु:-हरे:
in which the birth, the wise say of Lord Shree Hari

O King! On the twelfth day, the Sun is placed in the mid-day, at the meridian, when the birth of The Lord Shree Hari took place, which is called 'Vijayaa Dvaadashi'.


शङ्खदुन्दुभयो नेदुर्मृदङ्गपणवानका: ।

चित्रवादित्रतूर्याणां निर्घोषस्तुमुलोऽभवत् ॥७॥


शङ्ख-दुन्दुभय: नेदु:-
the conches, drums, sounded,
मृदङ्ग-पणव-आनका:
the double drums, clay tom-toms and tabors
चित्र-वादित्र-तूर्याणाम्
various flutes and trumpets
निर्घोष:-तुमुल:-अभवत्
cacophony great became

Conches, drums, double drums were sounded, the clay tom-toms, tabors and various flutes and trumpets were played on, and there was a great din of musical instruments.


प्रीताश्चाप्सरसोऽनृत्यन्गधर्वप्रवरा जगु: ।

तुष्टुवुर्मुनयो देवा मनव: पितरोऽग्नय: ॥८॥


प्रीता:-च-अप्सरस:-अनृत्यन्-
delighted and the Apsaras danced
गन्धर्व-प्रवरा: जगु:
the Gandharva chiefs sang,
तुष्टुवु:-मुनय: देवा:
sang praises the sages, the gods,
मनव: पितर:-अग्नय:
the Manus, the manes, the fires

The Apsaras danced with delight, the Gandharva chiefs sang, the sages, the gods, the Manus, the manes and the fires sang praises.


सिद्धविद्याधरगणा: सकिंपुरुषकिन्नरा: ।

चारणा यक्षरक्षांसि सुपर्णा भुजगोत्तमा: ॥९॥


सिद्ध-विद्याधर गणा:
of Siddhaas, Vidyaadharas, the hosts
स-किंपुरुष-किन्नरा:
along with the Kimpurushas, the Kinnaras,
चारणा: यक्ष-रक्षांसि
the Chaaranaas, the Yaksha, the Raakshasas
सुपर्णा: भुजग-उत्तमा:
the birds, the Naagas foremost

The hosts of Siddhaas, Vidyaadharas, along with the Kimpurushas, the Kinnaras, the Chaaranaas, the Yaksha, the Raakshasas, the birds and the foremost of the Naagas, also sang praises.


गायन्तोऽतिप्रशंसन्तो नृत्यन्तो विबुधानुगा: ।

आदित्या आश्रमपदं कुसुमै: समवाकिरन् ॥१०॥


गायन्त:-अति-प्रशंसन्त:
singing, very much appreciating,
नृत्यन्त: विबुध-अनुगा:
dancing, gods' attendents
आदित्या: आश्रम-पदम्
on Aditi's hermitage place
कुसुमै: समवाकिरन्
with flowers scattered

The attendents of the gods, appreciated this very much, scattered flowers on the place of Aditi's hermitage, as they sang and danced.


दृष्ट्वादितिस्तं निजगर्भसम्भवं परं पुमांसं मुदमाप विस्मिता ।

गृहीतदेहं निजयोगमायया प्रजापतिश्चाह जयेति विस्मित: ॥११॥


दृष्ट्वा-अदिति:-तम्
seeing Aditi Him
निज-गर्भ-सम्भवम् परम् पुमांसम्
her own womb sprung, The Supreme Person
मुदाम्-आप विस्मिता
much joy attained and was astonished
गृहीत-देहम् निज-योग-मायया
taken up a body, by (His) Own Yoga Maayaa
प्रजापति:-च-आह
Prajaapati (Kashyapa) and said
जय-इति विस्मित:
'Victory' thus, with wonder

Aditi attained much joy and was astonished to see the Supreme Person having sprung from her own womb, Who had taken on a body by His own Yoga Maayaa, His creative potency. Even Prajaapati Kashyapa exclaimed with wonder, 'Victory to You' thus.


यद् तद् वपुर्भाति विभूषणायुधैरव्यक्तचिद् व्यक्तमधारयद्-हरि: ।

बभूव तेनैव स वामनो वटु: संपश्यतोर्दिव्यगतिर्यथा नट: ॥१२॥


यद् तद् वपु:-भाति
which that form is pleasant
विभूषण-आयुधै:
with ornaments and weapons
अव्यक्त-चित्
the unmanifest consciousness
व्यक्तम्-अधारयत्-हरि:
the manifest took on Shree Hari
बभूव तेन-एव स:
became by that (form) only, He
वामन: वटु: संपश्यत:
the short Braahmana boy, as looked on
दिव्य-गति: यथा नट:
the divine moving, as an actor

Even as the couple looked on, from the unmanifest consciousness, that pleasant form with ornaments and weapons, which Shree Hari took on, from that form only, He, with divine movements, became a short Braahmana boy, like an actor.


तं वटुं वामनं दृष्ट्वा मोदमाना महर्षय: ।

कर्माणि कारयामासु: पुरस्कृत्य प्रजापतिम् ॥१३॥


तम् वटुम् वामनम् दृष्ट्वा
him the Braahmana boy of short stature, seeing
मोदमाना महर्षय:
delighted, the great sages
कर्माणि कारयामासु:
rituals made to be carried out
पुरस्कृत्य प्रजापतिम्
putting in front Prajaapati (Kashyapa)

The great sages were delighted to see the short statured Braahmana boy. They had Prajaapati Kashyapa in the lead and got all the rituals to be carried out.


तस्योपनीयमानस्य सावित्रीं सविताब्रवीत् ।

बृहस्पतिर्ब्रह्मसूत्रं मेखलां कश्यपोऽददात् ॥१४॥


तस्य-उपनीयमानस्य
his sacred thread being given
सावित्रीम् सविता-अब्रवीत्
the Gaayatri Mantra, the Sun pronounced
बृहस्पति:-ब्रह्म-सूत्रम्
Brihaspati, Brahma-sootra
मेखलाम् कश्यप:-अददात्
Mekhalaa (a cord made of grass) Kashyapa gave

When he was being given the sacred thread, the Sun uttered the Gaayatri Mantra. Brihaspati gave him the Brahma-sootra and Kashyapa gave him the Mekhalaa (a cord made of grass).


ददौ कृष्णाजिनं भूमिर्दण्डं सोमो वनस्पति: ।

कौपीनाच्छादनं माता द्यौश्छत्रं जगत: पते: ॥१५॥


ददौ कृष्ण-अजिनम् भूमि:-
gave deer skin, the earth
दण्डम् सोम: वनस्पति:
the staff, Moon, the vegetation lord
कौपीन-आच्छादनम् माता
the cloth strip and the cloth for waist, mother
द्यौ:-छत्रम् जगत: पते:
sky, the umbrella, to the universe's Lord

To the Lord of the universe, the earth gave deer skin, Moon, the lord of the vegetation, gave the staff, mother gave the strip of cloth for the private part and a cover for the waist, and the sky gave an umbrella.


कमण्डलुं वेदगर्भ: कुशान्सप्तर्षयो ददु: ।

अक्षमालां महाराज सरस्वत्यव्ययात्मन: ॥१६॥


कमण्डलुम् वेदगर्भ:
Kamandalu, Brahmaa
कुशान्-सप्तर्षय: ददु:
Kusha (grass) the Saptarshees gave
अक्षमालाम् महाराज
Rudraaksha rosary, O Great King!
सरस्वती-अव्यय-आत्मन:
Saraswati, to the immortal Lord

O Great King! Brahmaa gave Kamandalu, the Saptarshees gave the Kusha grass, Saraswati gave the Rudraaksha rosary to The Immortal Lord.


तस्मा इत्युपनीताय यक्षराट् पात्रिकामदात् ।

भिक्षां भगवती साक्षादुमादादम्बिका सती ॥१७॥


तस्मा इति-उपनीताय
to Him, thus being consecrated
यक्षराट् पात्रिकाम्-अदात्
Kubera, a vessel (for alms) gave
भिक्षाम् भगवती साक्षात्-
alms, The Goddess herself
उमा-अदात्-अम्बिका सती
Umaa gave, The Universal Mother virtuous

To Him, Who was thus being consecrated, Kubera gave the vessel for alms, and The all-virtuous, The Universal Mother, Goddess Umaa herself gave Him alms.


स ब्रह्मवर्चसेनैवं सभां संभावितो वटु: ।

ब्रह्मर्षिगणसञ्जुष्टामत्यरोचत मारिष: ॥१८॥


स: ब्रह्म-वर्चसेन-एवम्
He, by Brahmanic glory, thus
सभाम् संभावित: वटु:
in the assembly, honoured, the short celibate
ब्रह्मर्षि-गण सञ्जुष्टाम्-
the Braahmana sages hosts consisting
अति-अरोचत मारिष:
very much outshone, the worthy

He, the worthy short celibate, was honoured in the assembly, and outshone the assembly consisting of hosts of Braahmana sages, by His Brahmanic glory.


समिद्धमाहितं वह्निं कृत्वा परिसमूहनम् ।

परिस्तीर्य समभ्यर्च्य समिद्भिरजुहोद् द्विज: ॥१९॥


समिद्धम्-आहितम् वह्निम्
lighted, consecrated, the (sacred) fire,
कृत्वा परिसमूहनम्
performing of sprinkling of water
परिस्तीर्य समभ्यर्च्य
around it, well worshipped
समिद्भि:-अजुहोद् द्विज:
with fuel and ghee, offered the Braahmana

The Braahmana Lord, worshipped the sacred fire well, which was lighted, consecrated and had water sprinkled around it, with the offering of fuel and ghee.


श्रुत्वाश्वमेधैर्यजमानमूर्जितं बलिं भृगुणामुपकल्पितैस्तत: ।

जगाम तत्राखिलसारसंभृतो भारेण गां सन्नमयन्पदे पदे ॥२०॥


श्रुत्वा-अश्वमेधै:-यजमानम्-
hearing, by Ashvamedha (Yagyas) conducting,
ऊर्जितम् बलिम् भृगुणाम्-
The mighty Bali, by the Bhrigu's
उपकल्पितै:-तत:
instigated there
जगाम तत्र-अखिल-सार-
went there, with all the strength
संभृत: भारेण गाम्
enriched, with (Own) weight the earth
सन्नमयन्-पदे पदे
dis-balancing on every step

Having heard that the mighty Bali was performing the Ashvamedha sacrifices, instigated by the Bhrigus, The Lord, in the celibate short Braahmana boy form, enriched with all the strength, went there, on the spot, dis-balancing the earth with His own weight, on every step.


तं नर्मदायास्तट उत्तरे बलेर्य ऋत्विजस्ते भृगुकच्छसंज्ञके ।

प्रवर्तयन्तो भृगव: क्रतूत्तमं व्यचक्षतारादुदितं यथा रविम् ॥२१॥


तम् नर्मदाया:-तट उत्तरे
Him, on Narmada (river's) bank, on the North
बले:-ये ऋत्विज:-
of Bali those performing priests
ते भृगुकच्छ-संज्ञके
they, on Bhrigukacha named
प्रवर्तयन्त: भृगव:
were conducting the Bhrigus,
क्रतु-उत्तमम् व्यचक्षत-आरात्-
the sacrifice of highest order, saw close by
उदितम् यथा रविम्
arising alike the Sun

On the northern bank of the river Narmada, in a place named Bhrigu-Kaccha, the Bhrigus, who were the presiding priests of Bali's sacrifice, and were conducting that Ashvamedha sacrifice, of the highest order, saw Him close by, like the Sun arising.


त ऋत्विजो यजमान: सदस्या हतत्विषो वामनतेजसा नृप ।

सूर्य: किलायात्युत वा विभावसु: सनत्कुमारोऽथ दिदृक्षया क्रतो: ॥२२॥


ते ऋत्विज: यजमान:
they, the presiding priests, the sacrificer (Bali),
सदस्या: हत-त्विष:
the members, robbed of brilliance
वामन-तेजसा नृप
by the dwarf Brahmachari's lustre, O King!
सूर्य: किल-आयाति-उत वा
Sun definitely is coming, indeed or
विभावसु: सनत्कुमार:-अथ
the Fire, Sanatkumaar, then
दिदृक्षया क्रतो:
to see the sacrifice

They, the presiding priests, the sacrificer, Bali and the other members were robbed of their brilliance by the lustre of the divine dwarf Brahmachari's. O King! They thought that surely the Sun is coming, or indeed the Fire, then, the Sanatkumaaras, to see the sacrifice.


इत्थं सशिष्येषु भृगुष्वनेकधा वितर्क्यमाणो भगवान्स वामन: ।

छत्रं सदण्डं सजलं कमण्डलुं विवेश विभ्रत्-हयमेधवाटम् ॥२३॥


इत्थम् स-शिष्येषु भृगुषु-
like this, with the disciples, the Bhrigus
अनेकधा वितर्क्यमाण:
in many ways conjecturing
भगवान्-स: वामन:
The Lord, He, divine Dwarf
छत्रम् सदण्डम्
umbrella, with the staff,
सजलम् कमण्डलुम् विवेश
with water the Kamandalu, entered
विभ्रत् हयमेध-वाटम्
carrying, the Ashvamedha enclosure

Like this, when the Bhrigus and their disciples, Bali etc., were conjecturing in many ways, He, The Lord, The divine Dwarf, carrying the umbrella and the staff, and the Kamandalu with water, entered the enclosure of the Ashvamedha sacrifice.


मौञ्ज्या मेखलया वीतमुपवीताजिनोत्तरम् ।

जटिलं वामनं विप्रं मायामाणवकं हरिम् ॥२४॥


मौञ्ज्या मेखलया वीतम्-
by the 'Munja' grass cord encircled,
उपवीत-अजिन-उत्तरम्
like the sacred thread, deer-skin as upper garment
जटिलम् वामनम् विप्रम्
mysterious dwarf (form), Braahmana
माया-माणवकम् हरिम्
illusory Brahmchaari, The Lord Shree Hari

The Lord Shree Hari, came there, in an illusory mysterious dwarf Braahmana Brahmchaari form with the 'Munja' grass cord encircled like the sacred thread, and the deer-skin working as the upper garment.


प्रविष्टं वीक्ष्य भृगव: सशिष्यास्ते सहाग्निभि: ।

प्रत्यगृह्णन्समुत्थाय संक्षिप्तास्तस्य तेजसा ॥२५॥


प्रविष्टम् वीक्ष्य भृगव:
(Him) entered seeing, the Bhrigus,
स-शिष्या: सह-अग्निभि:
along with the disciples, with the fires
प्रत्यगृह्यन्-समुत्थाय
welcomed by arising
संक्षिप्ता:-तस्य तेजसा
dwarfed by His splendour

The Bhrigus, seeing Him enter, arose, along with their disciples and with the fires, to welcome Him, dwarfed by His splendour.


यजमान: प्रमुदितो दर्शनीयं मनोरमम् ।

रूपानुरूपावयवं तस्मा आसनमाहरत् ॥२६॥


यजमान: प्रमुदित:
the sacrificer, overjoyed
दर्शनीयम् मनोरमम्
worth seeing the charming
रूप-अनुरूप-अवयवम्
in looks proportionate limbs,
तस्मै आसनम्-आहरत्
for Him, seat fetched

The sacrificer, overjoyed to see Him, Who was worth seeing and was charming and had proportionate limbs to His form, himself fetched a seat for Him.


स्वागतेनाभिनन्द्याथ पादौ भगवतो बलि: ।

अवनिज्यार्चयामास मुक्तसङ्गमनोरमम् ॥२७॥


स्वागतेन-अभिनन्द्य-अथ
with welcoming, and felicitating, then
पादौ भगवत: बलि:
in the feet of The Lord, Bali
अवनिज्य-अर्चयामास
washed and worshipped
मुक्त-सङ्ग-मनोरमम्
to the free of attachment, minds pleasing

Bali, welcomed and felicitated The Lord, and then washed and worshipped His feet, Who is pleasing to the minds of those who are free of attachment.


तत्पादशौचं जनकल्मषापहं स धर्मविन्मूर्ध्न्यदधात् सुमङ्गलम् ।

यद् देवदेवो गिरिशश्चन्द्रमौलिर्दधार मूर्ध्ना परया च भक्त्या ॥२८॥


तत्-पाद-शौचम्
that feet washed water
जन-कल्मष-आपहम्
of the people sin dispelling
स: धर्म-वित्-
he, the knower of righteousness (Bali)
मूर्ध्नि-अदधात् सुमङ्गलम्
on head placed, most auspicious
यद् देव-देव:
which the Lord of the gods
गिरिश:-चन्द्रमौलि:-
Shiva, living in Kailaash, having the moon in his hair
दधार मूर्ध्ना
placed on his (own) head
परया च भक्त्या
with supreme devotion

Bali, the knower of righteousness, placed the most auspicious feet washed water on his head, the water which dispels the sins of the people, and which the lord of the gods, Lord Shiva, living in Kailaash and having the moon crescent in his hair, had placed on his head with supreme devotion.


बलि:-उवाच -
Bali said -
स्वागतं ते नमस्तुभ्यं ब्रह्मन्किं करवाम ते ।

ब्रह्मर्षीणां तप: साक्षान्मन्ये त्वाऽऽर्य वपुर्धरम् ॥२९॥


स्वागतम् ते नम:-तुभ्यम्
welcome to You, salutations to You
ब्रह्मन्-किम् करवाम ते
O Holy Braahmana! What should I do for You
ब्रह्मर्षीणाम् तप:-साक्षात्-
of the Braahmana sages austerity itself
मन्ये तु-आर्य वपु:-धरम्
I consider indeed, O Noble One! has form taken

O Holy Braahmana! Welcome to You, salutations to You! What can I do for You? I consider that the austerities of the Braahmana sages has taken form in Your body.


अद्य न: पितरस्तृप्ता अद्य न: पावितं कुलम् ।

अद्य स्विष्ट: क्रतुरयं यद् भवानागतो गृहान् ॥३०॥


अद्य न: पितर:-तृप्ता:
today, our manes are sated
अद्य न: पावितम् कुलम्
today, our purified is the race
अद्य स्विष्ट: क्रतु:-अयम्
today, is successfully performed sacrifice this
यत् भवान्-आगत: गृहान्
in that You have come to the house

Today, our forefathers are sated, today, our race is purified, today, this sacrifice is successfully performed, in that You have come to our house.


अद्याग्नयो मे सुहुता यथाविधि द्विजात्मज त्वच्चरणावनेजनै: ।

हतांहसो वार्भिरियं च भूरहो तथा पुनीता तनुभि: पदैस्तव ॥३१॥


अद्य-अग्नय: मे सुहुता:
today, the fires my are well oblated
यथा-विधि द्विज-आत्मज
with proper method, O Braahmana Son!
त्वत्-चरण-अवनेजनै:
by Your feet washing
हत-अंहस: वार्भि:-इयम् च भू:-
destroyed sins by the waters this and land,
अहो तथा पुनीता
Oh! and is consecrated
तनुभि: पदै:-तव
by tiny feet Yours

Today, my sacred fires are well oblated, O Son of Braahmana! The waters with which Your feet were washed with proper method, have destroyed the sins, and the land has been consecrated by Your tiny feet.


यद् यद् वटो वाञ्छसि तत्प्रतीच्छ मे त्वामर्थिनं विप्रसुतानुतर्कये ।

गां काञ्चनं गुणवद् धाम मृष्टं तथान्नपेयमुत वा विप्र कन्याम् |

ग्रामान् समृद्धांस्तुरगान् गजान् वा रथांस्तथार्हत्तम सम्प्रतीच्छ ॥३२॥


यत् यत् वट: वाञ्छसि
what-ever, O Brahmachari's ! Desire for
तत्-प्रतीच्छ मे त्वाम्-अर्थिनम्
that ask of me, You the seeker
विप्रसुत! अनुतर्कये
O Braahmana boy! I think
गाम् काञ्चनम् गुणवत् धाम
cow, gold, nice house,
मृष्टम् तथा-अन्न-पेयम्-
sweet, food and drink
उत वा विप्र-कन्याम्
indeed or Braahmana girl
ग्रामान् समृद्धान्-तुरगान्
villages prosperous, horse
गजान् वा रथान्-तथा-
elephants or chariots and
अर्हत्तम सम्प्रतीच्छ
the best, do ask for

O Brahmchaari! Do ask of me whatever You desire. For You, the seeker, O Braahmin boy! I think, it may be, a cow, gold, a comfortable house, delicious food and drink, indeed or a Braahmana girl, prosperous villages, horses elephants or chariots and all the best.
