श्री शुक उवाच -
Shree Shuka said -
एकैकशस्ता: कृष्णस्य पुत्रान् दश दशाबला: ।

अजीजनन्ननवमान्पितु: सर्वात्मसम्पदा ॥१॥


एक-एकश:-ता:
each one of them
कृष्णस्य पुत्रान्
Krishna's sons,
दश दश-अबला:
ten, ten, the wives
अजीजनत्-
gave birth to
अनवमान्-पितु:
not less than father
सर्व-आत्म-सम्पदा
in all Self qualities

All the wives gave birth to Krishna's sons, ten ten, each, who were no less than their father in the qualities of The Self.


गृहादनपगं वीक्ष्य राजपुत्र्योऽच्युतं स्थितम् ।

प्रेष्ठं न्यमंसत स्वं स्वं न तत्तत्त्वविद: स्त्रिय: ॥२॥


गृहात्-अनपगम् वीक्ष्य
from the house, not going, watching,
राजपुत्र्य:-
the princessess
अच्युतम् स्थितम्
The Invinvible One, present,
प्रेष्ठम् न्यमंसत
most beloved believed
स्वम् स्वम्
one-self one-self,
तत्-तत्त्व-विद: स्त्रिय:
not His substence knowing, the women

The princessess noticed that The Invincible Lord did not go anywhere, and ways always present there. Each one of them believed her-self to be His most beloved, because the women did not know His real substence.


चार्वब्जकोशवदनायतबाहुनेत्रसप्रेमहासरसवीक्षितवल्गुजल्पै: ।

सम्मोहिता भगवतो न मनो विजेतुं स्वैर्विभ्रमै: समशकन् वनिता विभूम्न: ॥३॥


चारु-अब्ज-कोश-वदन-
beautiful lotus bud like face
आयत-बाहु-नेत्र-
long arms, eyes,
सप्रेम-हास-रस-
loving smile, merriment,
वीक्षित-वल्गु-जल्पै:
glances, winning talks
सम्मोहिता: भगवत:
enchanted, of The Lord,
न मन: विजेतुम्
not the heart to win
स्वै:-विभ्रमै: सम्-अशकन्
by their charms unable
वनिता: विभूम्न:
the damsels, of The Almighty

The damsels, were enchanted by the beautiful lotus bud like face, long arms, big eyes, loving smile, glances full of merriment, and winning talks of The Lord. But, by their own charms, they were unable to win the heart of The Amighty.


स्मायावलोकलवदर्शितभावहारिभ्रूमण्डलप्रहितसौरतमन्त्रशौण्डै: ।

पत्न्यस्तु षोडशसहस्रमनङ्गबाणैर्यस्येन्द्रियं विमथितुं करणैर्न शेकु: ॥४॥


स्माय-अवलोक-लव-
by suppressed smile glance
दर्शित-भाव-हारि
denoting, sentiments fascinating
भ्रूमण्डल-प्रहित-
by the eybrows expressed
सौरत-मन्त्र-शौण्डै:
in love charms experts,
पत्न्य:-तु षोडश-सहस्रम्-
the wives, indeed sixteen thousands,
अनङ्ग-बाणै:-
by Cupid's arrows,
यस्य-इन्द्रियम् विमथितुम्
Whose senses to shake
करणै:-न शेकु:
by their (amorous) skills were not able

His sixteen thousand wives, adept in the love lorn skills, denoting by their suppressed smiles, side long glances, expressing by the twist of their eyebrows, and by the shafts of Cupid, were not able to shake Whose senses.


इत्थं रमापतिमवाप्य पतिं स्त्रियस्ता ब्रह्मादयोऽपि न विदु: पदवीं यदीयाम् ।

भेजुर्मुदाविरतमेधितयानुरागहासावलोकनवसङ्गमलालसाद्यम् ॥५॥


इत्थम् रमा-पतिम्-
in this manner, Rama's spouse,
अवाप्य पतिम् स्त्रिय:-ता:
getting as husband, women those,
ब्रह्मा-आदय:-अपि न विदु:
Brahmaa and others also did not know
पदवीम् यदीयाम्
the state of whose
भेजु:-मुदा-अविरतम्-एधितया-
(they) enjoyed, incessently increasing
अनुराग-हास-अवलोक-
love, mirth, loving glances
नव-सङ्गम-लालसा-आद्यम्
fresh unions' longing, ever new

In this manner, these women got the spouse of Ramaa for their own husband. Even Brahmaa and others did not know whose state of joy. They enjoyed the incessently increasing love, ever new mirth, loving glances, and longing for fresh unions.


प्रत्युद्गमासनवरार्हणपादशौचताम्बूलविश्रमणवीजनगन्धमाल्यै: ।

केशप्रसारशयनस्नपनोपहार्यैर्दासीशता अपि विभोर्विदधु: स्म दास्यम् ॥६॥


प्रत्युद्गम-आसन-
ushering in, giving seat,
वर-अर्हण-पाद-शौच-
with best articles worshipping, feet washing,
ताम्बूल-विश्रमण-
beetle leaves, making to relax,
वीजन-गन्ध-माल्यै:
fanning, with scent and garlands,
केश-प्रसार-शयन-
hair combing, bed making
स्नपन-उपहार्यै:-
bathing, and feeding with good food,
दासी-शता अपि
maids hundreds though, (were there)
विभो:-विदधु: स्म दास्यम्
of The Almighty performed service

Though there were hundreds of maid servants, the women themselves served The Almighty by ushering Him in, giving a seat, worshipping with the best of articles, washing His feet, making Him relax by presenting beetle leaves, scent and garlands, fanning Him, and combing the hair, making the bed, bathing Him, and feeding Him with good dishes.


तासां या दशपुत्राणां कृष्णस्त्रीणां पुरोदिता: ।

अष्टौ महिष्यास्तत्पुत्रान् प्रद्युम्नादीन् गृणामि ते ॥७॥


तासाम् या दश-पुत्राणाम्
of them, those, ten sons
कृष्ण-स्त्रीणाम्
of Krishna' wives,
पुरा-उदिता:
formerly spoken, (by me)
अष्टौ महिष्या:-
the eight queens
तत्-पुत्रान्
their sons,
प्रद्युम्न्-आदीन् गृणामि ते
Pradyumna and others, will enumerate to you

Of them, and their ten sons, of whom I told you earlier, I will now enumerate the eight principal queens of Krishna and their sons, Pradyumna and others.


चारुदेष्ण: सुदेष्णश्च चारुदेहश्च वीर्यवान् ।

सुचारुश्चारुगुप्तश्च भद्रचारुस्तथापर:॥८॥


चारुदेष्ण: सुदेष्ण:-च
Chaarudeshna, Sudeshna, and
चारुदेह:-च वीर्यवान्
Chaarudeha, and the valorous,
सुचारु:-चारुगुप्त:-च
Suchaaru, Chaarugupts, and
भद्रचारु:-तथा-अपर:
Bhadrachaaru and the others

Chaarudeshna, Sudeshna, and Chaarudeha, and the valorous, Suchaaru, Chaarugupts, and Bhadrachaaru the other.


चारुचन्द्रो विचारुश्च चारुश्च दशमो हरे: ।

प्रद्युम्नप्रमुखा जाता रुक्मिण्यां नावमा: पितु: ॥९॥


चारुचन्द्र: विचारु:-च
Chaaruchandra, Vichaaru, and
चारु:-च दशम: हरे:
Chaaru, and the ten of The Lord's
प्रद्युम्न-प्रमुखा:
Pradyumna, the eldest,
जाता: रुक्मिण्याम्
were born, from Rukmini
न-अवमा: पितु:
not less to father

Chaaruchandra, Vichaaru, and Chaaru, and of the ten sons of The Lord, Pradyumna was the eldest.They were born of Rukmini and were no less than their father.


भानु: सुभानु: स्वर्भानु: प्रभानुर्भानुमांस्तथा ।

चन्द्रभानुर्बृहद्भानुरतिभानुस्तथाष्टम: ॥१०॥


भानु: सुभानु: स्वर्भानु:
Bhaanu, Subhaanu, Svarbhaanu,
प्रभानु:-भानुमान्-तथा
Prabhaanu, Bhaanumaan, and
चन्द्रभानु:-बृहद्भानु:-
Chandrabhaanu, Brihadbhaanu,
अतिभानु:-तथा-अष्टम:
Atibhaanu, and the eighth

Bhaanu, Subhaanu, Svarbhaanu, Prabhaanu, Bhaanumaan, and Chandrabhaanu, Brihadbhaanu, Atibhaanu, and the eighth.


श्रीभानु प्रतिभानुश्च सत्यभामात्मजा दश ।

साम्ब: सुमित्र: पुरुजिच्छतजिच्च सहस्रजित् ॥११॥

Shreebhaanu, Pratibhaanu, and
सत्यभामा-आत्मजा: दश
Satyabhaamaa's sons ten
साम्ब: सुमित्र: पुरुजित्-
Saamba, Sumitra, Purujit,
शतजित्-च सहस्रजित्
Shatajit, and Sahasrajit

Shreebhaanu, Pratibhaanu, and were Satyabhaamaa's ten sons. Saamba, Sumitra, Purujit, Shatajit, and Sahasrajit,….


विजयश्चित्रकेतुश्च वसुमान् द्रविड: क्रतु: ।

जाम्बवत्या: सुता ह्येते साम्बाद्या: पितृसंमता: ॥१२॥

Vijaya, Chitraketu, and
वसुमान् द्रविड: क्रतु:
Vasumaan, Dravida, Kratu,
जाम्बवत्या: सुता:
Jaambavati's sons
हि-एते साम्ब-आद्या:
indeed these, Saamba and others,
पितृ-संमता:
father's loved ones

Vijaya, Chitraketu, and Vasumaan, Dravida, Kratu, these were indeed the sons of Jaambavati, and Samba and others, The Father's loved ones.


वीरश्चन्द्रोऽश्वसेनश्च चित्रगुर्वेगवान् वृष: ।

आम: शङ्कुर्वसु: श्रीमान् कुन्तिर्नाग्नजिते: सुता: ॥१३॥


वीर:-चन्द्रो:-अश्वसेन:-च
Veera, Chandra, Ashvasena and,
चित्रगु:-वेगवान् वृष:
Chitragu, Vegavaan, Vrisha,
आम: शङ्कु:-वसु:
Aama, Shanku, Vasu,
श्रीमान् कुन्ति:-
Shreemaan, Kunti,
नाग्नजिते: सुता:
Naagnajiti's sons

Veera, Chandra, Ashvasena and, Chitragu, Vegavaan, Vrisha, Aama, Shanku, Vasu, Shreemaan, Kunti, were Naagnajiti's sons.


श्रुत: कविर्वृषो वीर: सुबाहुर्भद्र एकल: ।

शान्तिर्दर्श: पूर्णमास: कालिन्द्या: सोमकोऽवर: ॥१४॥

Shruta, Kavi, Vrisha, Veera,
सुबाहु:-भद्र: एकल:
Subaahu, Bhadra, Ekala,
शान्ति:-दर्श: पूर्णमास:
Shaanti, Darsha, Poornamaasa,
कालिन्द्या: सोमक:-अवर:
Kaalinti's Somaka the youngest

Shruta, Kavi, Vrisha, Veera, Subaahu, Bhadra, Ekala, Shaanti, Darsha, Poornamaasa, were Kaalindi's sons, Somaka was the youngest.


प्रघोषो गात्रवान्सिंहो बल: प्रबल: ऊर्ध्वग: ।

माद्र्या: पुत्रा महाशक्ति सह ओजोऽपराजित: ॥१५॥


प्रघोष: गात्रवान्-सिंह:
Praghosha, Gaatravaan, Simha,
बल: प्रबल: ऊर्ध्वग:
Bala, Prabala, Urdhvaga,
माद्र्या: पुत्रा:
of Maadri the sons,
महाशक्ति: सह:
Mahaashakti, Saha,
ओज:-अपराजित:
Oja and Aparaajita

Maadri's (Lakshmana's) sons were Praghosha, Gaatravaan, Simha, Bala, Prabala, Urdhvaga, Mahaashakti, Saha, Oja and AparaajitaOja and Aparaajita.


वृको हर्षोऽनिलो गृध्रो वर्धनोऽन्नाद एव च ।

महाश: पावनो वह्निर्मित्रविन्दात्मजा: क्षुधि: ॥१६॥


वृक: हर्ष:-अनिल:
Vrika, Harsha, Anila,
गृध्र: वर्धन:-अन्नाद
Gridhra, Vardhana, Annaada,
एव च महाश: पावन:
also and, Mahaasha, Paavana,
वह्नि:-मित्रविन्दा-
Vahni, Mitravindaa's
आत्मजा: क्षुधि:
sons, (and) Kshudhi

Vrika, Harsha, Anila, Gridhra, Vardhana, Annaada, also and, Mahaasha, Paavana, Vahni, Kshudhi were Mitravindaa's sons.


संग्रामजिद् बृहत्सेन: शूर: प्रहरणोऽरिजित् ।

जय: सुभद्रो भद्राया वाम आयुश्च सत्यक: ॥१७॥


संग्रामजित् बृहत्सेन:
Sangraamajit, Brihatsena,
शूर: प्रहरण:-अरिजित्
Shoora, Praharana, Arijit,
जय: सुभद्र: भद्राया:
Jaya, Subhadra, of Bhadraa
वाम: आयु:-च सत्यक:
Vaama, Aayu, and Satyaka

Sangraamajit, Brihatsena, Shoora, Praharana, Arijit, Jaya, Subhadra, Vaama, Aayu, and Satyaka,were the sons of Bhadraa.


दीप्तिमांस्ताम्रतप्ताद्या रोहिण्यास्तनया हरे: ।

प्रद्युम्नाच्चानिरुद्धोऽभूद्रुक्मवत्यां महाबल: ॥१८॥


दीप्तिमान्-ताम्रतप्त-आद्या:
Deeptimaan, Taamra, Tapta, and others
रोहिण्या:-तनया: हरे:
of Rohini, the sons of Shree Hari,
प्रद्युम्नात्-च-अनिरुद्ध:-
from Pradyumna and Aniruddha
अभूत्-रुक्मवत्याम् महाबल:
was born, of Rukmavatee, the mighty

The other sons of Shree Hari born of Rohini, were Deeptimaan, Taamra, Tapta, and others. From Pradyumna, through Rukmaavati was born the mighty Aniruddha.


पुत्र्यां तु रुक्मिणो राजन् नाम्ना भोजकटे पुरे ।

एतेषां पुत्रपौत्राश्च बभूवु: कोटिषो नृप ।

मातर: कृष्णजातानां सहस्राणि च षोडश ॥१९॥


पुत्र्याम् तु रुक्मिण:
of the daughter, indeed of Rukmi,
राजन्
O King!
नाम्ना भोजकटे पुरे
by the name, in Bhojakat Puri
एतेषाम् पुत्र-पौत्रा:-च
of these sons and grand sons
बभूवु: कोटिष: नृप
were born tens of millions, O Ruler of men!
मातर: कृष्ण-जातानाम्
the mothers of Krishna's progeny
सहस्राणि च षोडश
(being) sixteen thousand

O King! Born to the daughter of Rukmi, Rukmaavati, who was born in Bhojakat Puri. O Ruler of men! the sons and grandsons, the progeny of Krishna, were tens of millions, as their mothers were sixteen thousand in number.


राजा-उवाच -
The King said -
कथं रुक्म्यरिपुत्राय प्रादाद् दुहितरं युधि ।

कृष्णेन परिभूतस्तं हन्तुं रन्ध्रं प्रतीक्षते ।

एतदाख्याहि मे विद्वन् द्विषोर्वैवाहिकं मिथ: ॥२०॥


कथम् रुक्मी-
how did Rukmi
अरि-पुत्राय प्रादात् दुहितरम्
for the enemy's son gave (his) daughter
युधि कृष्णेन परिभूत:-
in the battle by Krishna defeated
तम् हन्तुम् रन्ध्रम् प्रतीक्षते
Him to kill opportunity looking for
एतत्-आख्याहि मे
this tell me,
विद्वन्
O Learned sage!
द्विषो:-वैवाहिकम् मिथ:
(among) the enemies a marriage alliance mutual

Rukmi, who was defeated by Krishna in battle, and was awaiting an opportunity to kill Him, how did he give his daughter to the son of the enemy? O learned One! Do tell me about the mutual alliance of the enemies through marriage.


अनागतमतीतं च वर्तमानमतीन्द्रियम् ।

विप्रकृष्टं व्यवहितं सम्यक् पश्यन्ति योगिन: ॥२१॥


अनागतम्-अतीतम् च
of future, past and
वर्तमानम्-अतीन्द्रियम्
present, beyond the senses
विप्रकृष्टम् व्यवहितम्
far off, near by
सम्यक् पश्यन्ति योगिन:
well know of, Yogis

The yogis cleary see that which is in the future, past, and present, that which is beyond the sense perception, and that which is far off, or even near by.


श्री शुक उवाच -
Shree Shuka said -
वृत: स्वयंवरे साक्षादनङ्गोऽङ्गयुतस्तया ।

राज्ञ: समेतान् निर्जित्य जहारैकरथो युधि ॥२२॥


वृत: स्वयंवरे
chosen in self electing marriage,
साक्षात्-अनङ्ग:-
himslef Cupid,
अङ्गयुत:-तया
incarnate, by her,
राज्ञ: समेतान्
the kings assembled
निर्जित्य जहार-
vanquishing, carried (her) away
एक-रथ: युधि
alone in the chariot, in the battle

Pradyumna, himself Cupid incarnate, had vanquished in the battle, all the kings assembled for the self electing groom ceremony of Rukmaavati, and elected by her, carried her away, all alone in the chariot.


यद्यप्यनुस्मरन् वैरं रुक्मी कृष्णावमानित: ।

व्यतरद् भागिनेयाय सुतां कुर्वन् स्वसु: प्रियम् ॥२३॥


यद्यपि-अनुस्मरन् वैरम्
though constantly reminded of the discord
रुक्मी कृष्ण-अवमानित:
Rukmi, by Krishna degraded,
व्यतरत् भागिनेयाय
wedded to sister's son
सुतां कुर्वन् स्वसु: प्रियम्
daughter, to sister please

Rukmi, degraded by Krishna, was constantly reminded of the discord, yet, he wedded his daughter to his sister's son, to please the sister Rukmini.


रुक्मिण्यास्तनयां राजन् कृतवर्मसुतो बली ।

उपयेमे विशालाक्षीं कन्यां चारुमतीं किल ॥२४॥

O King!
कृतवर्म-सुत: बली
Kritavarma's son, Bali,
उपयेमे विशालाक्षीम्
married, the large eyed
कन्याम् चारुमतीम् किल
girl, Chaarumati, indeed

O King! Kritavarma's son, Bali, indeed, married Rukmini's daughter, the large eyed Charumati.


दौहित्रायानिरुद्धाय पौत्रीं रुक्म्यददात्-हरे: ।

रोचनां बद्धवैरोऽपि स्वसु: प्रियचिकीर्षया ।

जानन्नधर्मं तद् यौनं स्नेहपाशानुबन्धन: ॥२५॥


दौहित्राय-अनिरुद्धाय
to the grand son Aniruddha,
पौत्रीम् रुक्मी-अददात्-
grand daughter, Rukmi gave
हरे: रोचनाम्
with Shree Hari (Krishna) Rochanaa,
बद्ध-वैर:-अपि
tied indiscord though
स्वसु: प्रिय-चिकीर्षया
for sister to please willing,
जानन्-अधर्मम्
knowing unrighteous
तद् यौनम्
that marriage,
स्नेह-पाश-अनुबन्धन:
by affection snare tied

Rukmi gave to his grand son (daughter's son) Aniruddha, his grand daughter Rochana, even though having discord with Shree Hari, Krishna, wanting to please his sister, Rukmini, tied by affection snare with her, knowing that the marriage was unrighteous.


तस्मिन्नभ्युदये राजन् रुक्मिणी रामकेशवौ ।

पुरं भोजकटं जग्मु: साम्बप्रद्युम्नकादय: ॥२६॥


तस्मिन्-अभ्युदये
in that function

O King!
रुक्मिणी राम-केशवौ
Rukmini, Balaraama, Keshava,
पुरम् भोजकटम् जग्मु:
to the city Bhojakata went
साम्ब-प्रद्युम्नक-आदय:
Saamba Pradyumna and others

O King! Rukmini, Balaraama, Keshava, Saamba, Pradyumna and others went to the city of Bhojakata, for that function.


तस्मिन् निवृत्त उद्वहे कालिङ्गप्रमुखा नृपा: ।

दृप्तास्ते रुक्मिणं प्रोचुर्बलमक्षैर्विनिर्जय ॥२७॥


तस्मिन् निवृत्त उद्वहे
on that conclusion of the wedding
कालिङ्ग-प्रमुखा: नृपा:
Kalinga and the main kings
दृप्ता:-ते रुक्मिणम् प्रोचु:-
arrogant they, to Rukmi said,
बलम्-अक्षै:-विनिर्जय
Balaraama in dice game win

On the conclusion of that marriage, some arrogant kings headed by the king of Kalinga, haughtily said to Rukmi to win over Balaraama in the game of dice.


अनक्षज्ञो ह्ययं राजन्नपि तद्व्यसनं महत् ।

इत्युक्तो बलमाहूय तेनाक्षै रुक्म्यदीव्यत ॥२८॥


अनक्षज्ञ: हि-अयम्
not knowing the dice game, indeed, he
राजन्-अपि
O King! even then,
तत्-व्यसनम् महत्
his addiction great
इति-उक्त: बलम्-आहूय
thus told Balaraama inviting
तेन-अक्षै: रुक्मी-अदीव्यत
with with dice Rukmi played

Not knowing the game of dice, even then, his addiction to it is great. O king! Thus told, Rukmi invited Balaraama and played at dice with him.


शतं सहस्रमयुतं रामस्तत्राददे पणम् ।

तंतु रुक्म्यजयत्तत्र कालिङ्ग: प्राहसद् बलम् ।

दन्तान् सन्दर्शयन्नुच्चैर्नामृष्यत्तद्हलायुध: ॥२९॥


शतम् सहस्रम्-अयुतम्
hundred, thousand, ten thousand
राम:-तत्र-आददे पणम्
Balaraama, there gave stake,
तम्-तु रुक्मी-अजयत्-
that also Rukmi won
तत्र कालिङ्ग:
there Kalinga king
प्राहसद् बलम्
mocked Balaraama,
दन्तान् सन्दर्शयन्-
teeth showing
उच्चै:-न-अमृष्यत्-
loudly (laughed), not put up with
तत्-हलायुध:
that, The Plough wielder

Balaraama gave a stake of hundred, thousand and ten thousand, which also Rukmi won. There, then, the king of Kalinga laughed loudly, showing his teeth, mocking Balaraama, which Balaraama, The Wielder of the plough could not put up with.


ततो लक्षं रुक्म्यगृह्णाद् ग्लहं तत्राजयद् बल: ।

जितवानहमित्याह रुक्मी कैतवमाश्रित: ॥३०॥


तत: लक्षम् रुक्मी-
then, one lakha Rukmi
गृह्णात् ग्लहम्
took the bet
तत्र-अजयत् बल:
there won Balaraama
जितवान्-अहम्-
Won have I'
इति-आह रुक्मी
this said Rukmi
कैतवम्-आश्रित:
cunningness resorting to

Then, Rukmi betted one lakh, that Balaraama won. Rukmi, resorting to cunningness declared, 'I have won', thus.


मन्युना क्षुभित: श्रीमान् समुद्र इव पर्वणि ।

जात्यारुणाक्षोऽतिरुषा न्यर्बुदं ग्लहमाददे ॥३१॥


मन्युना क्षुभित: श्रीमान्
with wrath agitated the glorious one, (Balaraamaa)
समुद्र: इव पर्वणि
sea like on full moon
जात्या-अरुण-अक्ष:-
by nature red eyed
अति-रुषा न्यर्बुदम्
by great anger, hundred millions
ग्लहम्-आददे
bet gave

The glorious Balaraama, with naturally red eyes, agitated by wrath like the sea on a full moon night, in great anger, betted a hundred millions.


तं चापि जितवान् रामो धर्मेणच्छलमाश्रित: ।

रुक्मी जितं मयात्रेमे वदन्तु प्राश्निका इति ॥३२॥


तम् च-अपि जितवान्
that and also won
राम: धर्मेण-
Balaraama, lawfully
छलम्-आश्रित:
deciet sheltered
रुक्मी जितम् मया-
Rukmi, won by me,
अत्र-इमे वदन्तु
here these may decide

Lawfully, Balaraama won that also. Rukmi taking recourse to deciet, said, ' This is won by me, the umpires here may decide', thus.


तदाब्रवीन्नभोवाणी बलेन जितो ग्लह: ।

धर्मतो वचनेनैव रुक्मी वदति वै मृषा ॥३३॥


तदा-अब्रवीत्-नभ:-वाणी
then, spoke a sky voice
बलेन जित: ग्लह:
'By Balaraam is won the bet,
धर्मत: वचनेन-एव
lawfully, verbly only
रुक्मी वदति वै मृषा
Rukmi says, indeed, a lie'

Then, a sky voice spoke, 'The bet is lawfully won by Balaraama, Rukmi is speaking a lie, indeed, just verbally.


तामनादृत्य वैदर्भो दुष्टराजन्यचोदित: ।

सङ्कर्षणं परिहसन् बभाषे कालचोदित: ॥३४॥


ताम्-अनादृत्य
that (the voice) dishonouring
दुष्ट-राजन्य-चोदित:
by the wicked kings encouraged
सङ्कर्षणम् परिहसन्
Balaraama was mocked,
बभाषे काल-चोदित:
and said, by Time instigated

Rukmi dishonoured the voice, and encouraged by the wicked kings, mocked Balaraama, and instigated by Time, said,…


नैवाक्षकोविदा यूयं गोपाला वनगोचरा: ।

अक्षैर्दीव्यन्ति राजानो बाणैश्च न भवादृशा: ॥३५॥


न-एव-अक्ष-कोविदा:
not even dice adept at
यूयम् गोपाला:
you all, cow herds,
वन-गोचरा:
in foresr residing
अक्षै:-दीव्यन्ति
by the dice game are honoured
राजान: बाणै:-च
the kings and arrows by
न भवादृशा:
not people like you

People like you are not adept at the game of dice, who are cowherds, roaming the forests. Only kings are honoured to play the dice game and with arrows.


रुक्मिणैवमधिक्षिप्तो राजभिश्चोपहासित: ।

क्रुद्ध: परिघमुद्यम्य जघ्ने तं नृम्णसंसदि ॥३६॥


रुक्मिणा-एवम्-अधिक्षिप्त:
by Rukmi, thus mocked
राजभि:-च-उपहासित:
by the kings and laughed at
क्रुद्ध: परिघम्-उद्यम्य
enraged, the mace lifting
जघ्ने तम्
killed him,
नृम्ण-संसदि
in the auspicious meeting

Thus, mocked by Rukmi and rediculed by the kings, enraged Balaraama lifted up the mace and killed him, there and there, in the auspicious assembly.


कलिङ्गराजं तरसा गृहीत्वा दशमे पदे ।

दन्तानपातयत् क्रुद्धो योऽहसद् विवृतैर्द्विजै: ॥३७॥


कलिङ्ग-राजम्
the Kalinga king
तरसा गृहीत्वा
swiftly catching hold of
दशमे पदे
ten steps away
दन्तान्-अपातयत् क्रुद्ध:
teeth smashed, enraged
य:-अहसत्
who had laughed
विवृतै:-द्विजै:
with open teeth

Balaraama swiftly caught hold of the king of Kalinga, who was ten steps away and in anger smashed his teeth, for he had laughed at him with open teeth.


अन्ये निर्भिन्नबाहूरुशिरसो रुधिरोक्षिता: ।

राजानो दुद्रुवुर्भीता बलेन परिघार्दिता: ॥३८॥


अन्ये निर्भिन्न-बाहु:-
others shattered arms,
उरु-शिरस:
thighs and heads
रुधिर-उक्षिता:
blood oozing
राजान: दुद्रुवु:-भीता:
kings ran away in terror
बलेन परिघ-अर्दिता:
by Balaraama's rod struck

Other kings who had their arms, thighs, heads, shattered, and blood oozing, ran away in terror, being struck with Balaraama's rod.


निहते रुक्मिणि श्याले नाब्रवीत् साध्वसाधु वा ।

रुक्मिणीबलयो राजन् स्नेहभङ्गभयात्-हरि: ॥३९॥


निहते रुक्मिणि श्याले
having been killed Rukmi, the brother-in-law
न-अब्रवीत्
did not comment
साधु-असाधु वा
good bad or
रुक्मिणी-बलयो:
Rukminee and Balaraama's
राजन्
O King!
स्नेह-भङ्ग-
affection enstranging
भयात्-हरि:
for fea, Shree Hari

O King, Shree Hari, Krishna, did not say good or bad on his brother-in-law, Rukmi being killed, for fear of enstranging the affection between Rukmini and Balaraama.


ततोऽनिरुद्धं सह सूर्यया वरं रथं समारोप्य ययु: कुशस्थलीम् ।

रामादयो भोजकटाद् दशार्हा: सिद्धाखिलार्था मधुसूदनाश्रया: ॥४०॥


तत:-अनिरुद्धम् सह सूर्यया
after that, Aniruddha along with the newly wed
वरम् रथम् समारोप्य
on an excellent chariot seating,
ययु: कुशस्थलीम्
went to Dwaarakapuri
राम-आदय: भोजकटात्
Balaraama and others from Bhojakata,
दशार्हा: सिद्ध-अखिल-अर्था:
the Dashaarhas, filled all purposes,
मधुसूदन-आश्रया:
Madhusoodana being their asylum

After that, Aniruddha and his newly wedded wife were seated on an excellent chariot and Balaraama and the other Dashaarhas, whose entire purposes had been served, all went to Dwarakapuri from Bhojakata, with Krishna, (Madhusoodana) as their asylum.


इति श्रीमद्भागवते महापुराणे पारमहंस्यां संहितायां

दशमस्कन्धे उत्तरार्धे अनिरुद्धविवाहे रुक्मिवधो

नामैकषष्टितमोऽध्याय: ॥६१॥
