श्री शुक उवाच -
Shree Shuka said -
इत्युदीरितमाकर्ण्य देवर्षेरुद्धवोऽब्रवीत् ।
सभ्यानां मतमाज्ञाय कृष्णस्य च महामति: ॥१॥
इति-उदीरितम्-आकर्ण्य
thus spoken, hearing,
देवर्षे:-उद्धव:-अब्रवीत्
of the celestial sage, Uddhava said,
सभ्यानाम् मतम्-आज्ञाय
of the councillors' opinion considering,
कृष्णस्य च महामति:
of Krishna and the wise
On hearing these words' of The Lord, considering the opinion of the councillors, the celestial sage, and Krishna, the wise Uddhava said,….
उद्धव उवाच -
Uddhava said -
यदुक्तमृषिणा देव साचिव्यं यक्ष्यतस्त्वया ।
कार्यं पैतृष्वसेयस्य रक्षा च शरणैषिणाम् ॥२॥
यत्-उक्तम्-ऋषिणा देव
what is said by the sage, O Lord!
साचिव्यम् यक्ष्यत:-त्वया
help, to the sacrifice performing, by You,
कार्यम् पैतृष्वसेयस्य
should be done of the cousin,
रक्षा च शरण-एषिणाम्
protection and of the resort seeking
O Lord! Like what the sage has said, You should help Your cousin when he performs the sacrifice, and also protect those who seek Your protection.
यष्टव्यं राजसूयेन दिक्चक्रजयिना विभो ।
अतो जरासुतजय उभयार्थो मतो मम ॥३॥
यष्टव्यम् राजसूयेन
should perform sacrifice by Raajasooya
दिक्चक्र-जयिना विभो
by the ten quarters conqueror, O Almighty Lord!
अत: जरासुत-जय
therefore, of Jaraa's son's conquering
उभय-अर्थ: मत: मम
both purposes meets, is opinion mine
O Almighty Lord! The conqueror of all the ten quarters should perform the sacrifice by the Raajasooya sacrifice. Therefore by conquering Jara's son, Jaraasandha, both the purposes are fulfilled. This is my opinion.
अस्माकं च महानर्थो ह्येतेनैव भविष्यति ।
यशश्च तव गोविन्द राज्ञो बद्धान् विमुच्यत: ॥४॥
अस्माकम् च महान्-अर्थ:
our and great interest
हि-एतेन-एव भविष्यति
indeed in this only will be
यश:-च तव गोविन्द
glory and Your, O Govinda!
राज्ञ: बद्धान् विमुच्यत:
the king's captivated freed
In this, this much will be our great interest, that, it will bring glory to You, O Govinda, and the captivated kings will be set free.
स वै दुर्विषहो राजा नागायुतसमो बले ।
बलिनामपि चान्येषां भीमं समबलं विना ॥५॥
स: वै दुर्विषह: राजा
he surely, irresistible the king,
नाग-अयुत-सम: बले
elephants ten thousand equal in strength,
बलिनाम्-अपि च-अन्येषाम्
of the strong also, and others,
भीमम् सम-बलम् विना
Bheema like strength unless
The king surely is irresistible, with his strength equal to that of ten thousand elephants, even by the others good in strength, except for Bheema, who is equal to him in strength.
द्वैरथे स तु जेतव्यो मा शताक्षौहिणीयुत: ।
ब्रह्मण्योऽभ्यर्थितो विप्रैर्न प्रत्याख्याति कर्हिचित् ॥६॥
द्वैरथे स: तु जेतव्य:
in a duel he should be conquered
मा शत-अक्षौहिणी-युत:
not hundred Akshauhinee army with
ब्रह्मण्य:-अभ्यर्थित: विप्रै:-
devoted to Braahmanas, requested by Braahmanas,
न प्रत्याख्याति कर्हिचित्
does not refuse ever
He should be conquered in a face to face dual and not with his hundred Akshauhinee army. He, the devotee of the Braahmanas, never refuses, whatever asked for by them.
ब्रह्मवेषधरो गत्वा तं भिक्षेत वृकोदर: ।
हनिष्यति न सन्देहो द्वैरथे तव सन्निधौ ॥७॥
ब्रह्म-वेष-धर: गत्वा
in a Braahmana's disguise, going,
तम् भिक्षेत वृकोदर:
him may request Bheemasena
हनिष्यति न सन्देह:
will kill without a doubt,
द्वैरथे तव सन्निधौ
in a duel, in Your presence
In the disguise of a Braahmin, Bheemsena may go and request him for a duel. Without a doubt, in the duel, Bheema will kill him, in Your presence.
निमित्तं परमीशस्य विश्वसर्गनिरोधयो: ।
हिरण्यगर्भ: शर्वश्च कालस्यारूपिणस्तव ॥८॥
निमित्तम् परम-ईशस्य
instruments of The Supreme Ruler
विश्व-सर्ग-निरोधयो:
in the universes' creation and destruction
हिरण्यगर्भ: शर्व:-च
are Brahmaa and Shiva,
कालस्य-अरूपिण:-तव
of the Time formless You
Brahmaa and Shiva are the instruments of the formless Time, You, The Supreme Almighty, in the creation and destruction of the universe.
गायन्ति ते विशदकर्म गृहेषु देव्यो राज्ञां स्वशत्रुवधमात्मविमोक्षणं च ।
गोप्यश्च कुञ्जरपतेर्जनकात्मजाया: पित्रोश्च लब्धशरणा मुनयो वयं च ॥९॥
गायन्ति ते विशदकर्म गृहेषु
will sing of Your wondrous deeds, in the houses,
देव्य: राज्ञाम् स्व-शत्रु-वधम्-
the ladies, of the kings, their own enemies destruction
आत्म-विमोक्षणम् च
of themselves being released,
गोप्य:-च कुञ्जर-पते:-
the Gopis and, of the elephant king
जनक-आत्मजाया:
of Janaka's daughter,
लब्ध-शरणा: मुनय: वयम् च
the obtained refuge sages, we and
(After the killing of Jaraasandha), in their houses, the wives of the kings will sing of Your wondrous deeds, of their own release, and the destruction of their enemy, just like the Gopis sing of their deliverance from the demon Shankhachooda, the sages who have obtained refuge in You sing of the deliverance of the elephant king, and of Janaka's daughter, and we sing of the deliverance of Your parents from Kansa.
जरासन्धवध: कृष्ण भूर्यर्थायोपकल्पते ।
प्राय: पाकविपाकेन तव चाभिमत: क्रतु: ॥१०॥
जरासन्ध-वध: कृष्ण
Jaraasandha's killing, O Krishna!
भूरि-अर्थाय-उपकल्पते
many purposes serves,
प्राय: पाक-विपाकेन
generally, by the deed's end result,
तव च-अभिमत: क्रतु:
Your and is sanctioned the sacrifice
O Krishna! The killing of Jaraasandha will serve many purposes. Generally, by the favourable result of the deed, the sacrifice has Your sanction also.
श्री शुक उवाच -
Shree Shuka said -
इत्युद्ध्ववचो राजन् सर्वतोभद्रमच्युतम् ।
देवर्षिर्यदुवृद्धाश्च कृष्णश्च प्रत्यपूजयन् ॥११॥
इति-उद्ध्व-वच: राजन्
this Uddhava's statement, O King!
सर्वत:-भद्रम्-अच्युतम्
with all consideration proper and flawless,
देवर्षि:-यदु-वृद्धा:-च
the celestial sage, the Yadu elders, and,
कृष्ण:-च प्रत्यपूजयन्
Krishna also approved
O King! This counsel of Uddhava which was proper and flawless, considering everything, was approved of by the celestial sage, the Yadu elders, and Krishna also.
अथादिशत् प्रयाणाय भगवान् देवकीसुत: ।
भृत्यान् दारुकजैत्रादीननुज्ञाप्य गुरून् विभु: ॥१२॥
अथ-आदिशत् प्रयाणाय
then, instructed for the journey
भगवान् देवकीसुत:
The Lord, Devaki's son,
भृत्यान् दारुक-जैत्र-आदीन्-
the servants, Daaruka, Jaitra and others,
अनुज्ञाप्य गुरून् विभु:
with permission of the elders, The Almighty
Then, Devaki's son, The Almighty Lord, took the permission of the elders and instructed the servants, Daaruka, Jaitra and others for the journey.
निर्गमय्यावरोधान् स्वान् ससुतान् सपरिच्छदान् ।
सङ्कर्षणमनुज्ञाप्य यदुराजं च शत्रुहन् ।
सूतोपनीतं स्वरथमारुहद् गरुडध्वजम् ॥१३॥
निर्गमय्य-अवरोधान् स्वान्
sent first the consorts own
ससुतान् सपरिच्छदान्
with sons, with the luggage
सङ्कर्षणम्-अनुज्ञाप्य
Balaraama taking permission of,
यदु-राजम् च शत्रुहन्
and the Yadu king (Ugrasena), O Killer of foes!
सूत-उपनीतम् स्व-रथम्-
by the charioteer brought own chariot
आरुहत् गरुडध्वजम्
mounted ,with the Gaduda emblem
O Killer of foes! He sent His own consorts and sons first with the luggage and the retinue, then mounted His own chariot with the Gaduda emblem, which the charioteer had brought, having taken permission of Balaraama and the king of the Yadus', Ugrasena.
ततो रथद्विपभटसादिनायकै: करालया परिवृत आत्मसेनया ।
मृदङ्गभेर्यानकशङ्खगोमुखै: प्रघोषघोषितककुभो निराक्रमत् ॥१४॥
तत: रथ-द्विप-भट-
from there, with chariots, elephants, cavalry,
सादि-नायकै: करालया
mounted and foot soldiers, formidable
परिवृत आत्म-सेनया
surrounded own army,
मृदङ्ग-भेरि-आनक-शङ्ख-
clay tom-toms, trumpets, tabors and conch
गोमुखै: प्रघोष-घोषित-
Gomukha sounds resounding,
ककुभ: निराक्रमत्
the quarters, set forth
From there He set out surrounded by His own army of chariots, elephants, cavalry, mounted soldiers, with the quarters resounding with the sounds of clay tom-toms, trumpets, tabors and conch, and Gomukha.
नृवाजिकाञ्चनशिबिकाभिरच्युतं सहात्मजा: पतिमनु सुव्रता ययु: ।
वराम्बराभरणविलेपनस्रज: सुसंवृता नृभिरसिचर्मपाणिभि: ॥१५॥
नृ-वाजि-काञ्चन शिबिकाभि:-
by men and horses (drawn) golden palanquins,
अच्युतम् सह-आत्मजा:
The Infinite Lord with the sons,
पतिम्-अनु सुव्रता: ययु:
husband's behind the noble (ladies) went
वर-अम्बर-आभरण-
with the best clothes, ornaments,
विलेपन-स्रज: सुसंवृता:
pastes, garlands well adorned,
नृभि:-असि-चर्म-पाणिभि:
with men having swords shields in hand
In the golden palanquins drawn by men and horses, the noble ladies went with their sons, behind their husbands, attired in the best clothes, ornaments, pastes, garlands, well adorned, guarded by men having swords and shields in hand.
नरोष्ट्रगोमहिषखराश्वतर्यन:करेणुभि: परिजनवारयोषित: ।
स्वल्ङ्कृता: कटकुटिकम्बलाम्बराद्युपस्करा ययुरधियुज्य सर्वत: ॥१६॥
नर-उष्ट्र-गो-महिष-खर-
on carts, camels, cows, bulls, donkeys,
अश्वतरी-अन: करेणुभि:
mules, litters, elephants,
परिजन-वारयोषित:
servants, courtesans,
स्वल्ङ्कृता: कट-कुटि-कम्बल-
well ornamented, with tents, mats blankets,
अम्बर-आदि-उपस्करा:
covering clothes, etc., materials,
ययु:-अधियुज्य सर्वत:
went secured on all sides
Then, the well ornamented servants and courtesans followed, on carts, camels, cows, bulls, donkeys, mules, litters, elephants, well secured on all sides, carrying tents, mats blankets, coverings clothes, materials, etc.,.
बलं बृहद्ध्वजपटछत्रचामरैर्वरायुधाभरणकिरीटवर्मभि: ।
दिवांशुभिस्तुमुलरवं बभौ रवेर्यथार्णव: क्षुभिततिमिङ्गिलोर्मिभि: ॥१७॥
बलम् बृहत्-ध्वज-पट-
the army huge, with flags, festoons,
छत्र-चामरै:-वर-आयुध-
umbrellas, chawries, excellent weapons,
आभरण-किरीट-वर्मभि:
jewels, crowns and armours,
दिवांशुभि:-तुमुल-रवम्
the day's sunlight causing great noise,
बभौ रवे:-यथा-अर्णव:
became the Sun, like the ocean
क्षुभित-तिमिङ्गिल-उर्मिभि:
agitated by the whales and waves
That huge army, with its flags, festoons, umbrellas, chawries, excellent weapons, jewels, crowns and armours, shone like the Sun, with its daytime rays, and like the ocean with its agitated waters because of the whales and the waves.
अथो मुनिर्यदुपतिना सभाजित: प्रणम्य तं हृदि विदधद् विहायसा ।
निशम्य तद्व्यवसितमाहृतार्हणो मुकुन्दसन्दर्शननिर्वृतेन्द्रिय: ॥१८॥
अथ: मुनि:-यदुपतिना
after that, the sage, by the Yadu's Lord
सभाजित: प्रणम्य तम्
worshipped, bowing to Him,
हृदि विदधद् विहायसा
in the heart placing, by air,
निशम्य तत्-व्यवसितम्-
hearing, that decision,
आहृत-अर्हण: मुकुन्द-
being worshipped and of Mukunda,
सन्दर्शन-निर्वृत-इन्द्रिय:
getting the sight, delighted at heart
The sage was delighted at heart, being worshipped by the Lord of the Yadu's and getting the sight of Mukunda, and hearing His decision, placed Him in the heart, bowed to Him and went away by air.
राजदूतमुवाचेदं भगवान् प्रीणयन् गिरा ।
मा भैष्ट दूत भद्रं वो घातयिष्यामि मागधम् ॥१९॥
राजदूतम्-उवाच-इदम्
to the royal messenger, said this,
भगवान् प्रीणयन् गिरा
The Lord, in pleasing voice,
मा भैष्ट दूत भद्रम् व:
'Do not be afraid, well be to You,
घातयिष्यामि मागधम्
I will kill the Magadha king'
The Lord, in a pleasing voice said to the royal messenger, 'Do not be afraid, well be to you, I will kill the king of Magadha.'
इत्युक्त: प्रस्थितो दूतो यथावदवदन्नृपान् ।
तेऽपि सन्दर्शनं शौरे: प्रत्यैक्षन् यन्मुमुक्षव: ॥२०॥
इति-उक्त: प्रस्थित: दूत:
thus told, left the messenger,
यथावत्-अवदत्-नृपान्
as it is, told to the kings
ते-अपि सन्दर्शनम् शौरे:
they also, the sight of Shauree Krishna,
प्रत्यैक्षन् यत्-मुमुक्षव:
eagerly awaiting, who were seeking release
Thus told, the messenger departed and duly reported to the kings. The kings who were impatient for release, eagerly awaited the presence and the sight of Krishna, the Shauree.
आनर्तसौवीरमरूंस्तीर्त्वा विनशनं हरि: ।
गिरीन् नदीरतीयाय पुरग्रामव्रजाकरान् ॥२१॥
आनर्त-सौवीर-मरून्-तीर्त्वा
Aanarta, Sauveera, Maru, crossing,
विनशनम् हरि:
Kurukshetra, Shree Hari,
गिरीन् नदी:-अतीयाय
mountains, rivers crossed,
पुर-ग्राम-व्रज-आकरान्
towns, villages, cowherd sheds, hamlets
Shree Hari crossed Aanarta, Sauveera, Maru, Kurukshetra, mountains and rivers, and went by many towns, villages, cowherd sheds and hamlets.
ततो दृषद्वतीं तीर्त्वा मुकुन्दोऽथ सरस्वतीम् ।
पञ्चालानथ मत्स्यांश्च शक्रप्रस्थमथागमत् ॥२२॥
तत: दृषद्वतीम् तीर्त्वा
from there, Drishadvatee crossing,
मुकुन्द:-अथ सरस्वतीम्
Mukunda, then Saraswati
पञ्चालान्-अथ मत्स्यान्-च
the Paanchaala then, the Matsya and
शक्रप्रस्थम्-अथ-आगमत्
Indraprastha then came to
From there, Mukunda crossed the rivers Drishadvatee and Saraswati, the kingdoms of the Paanchaalas and Matsya, and reached Indraprastha.
तमुपागतमाकर्ण्य प्रीतो दुर्दर्शनं नृणाम् ।
अजातशत्रुर्निरगात् सोपाध्याय: सुहृद्वृत: ॥२३॥
तम्-उपागतम्-आकर्ण्य
His arrival hearing,
प्रीत: दुर्दर्शनम् नृणाम्
delighted, of the difficult to be seen by people
अजातशत्रु:-निरगात्
Yudhishthira came out,
स-उपाध्याय: सुहृद्-वृत:
with the priests and friends accompanied
Yudhishthira was delighted on hearing of His arrival, He, Who is difficult to be seen by the people, and came out of the city with the priests and friends surrounded to welcome Him.
गीतवादित्रघोषेण ब्रह्मघोषेण भूयसा ।
अभ्ययात् स हृषीकेशं प्राणा: प्राणमिवादृत: ॥२४॥
गीत-वादित्र-घोषेण
with songs and instruments' sound,
ब्रह्म-घोषेण भूयसा
of the Vedas recitations loud,
अभ्ययात् स: हृषीकेशम्
went he, to Krishna,
प्राणा: प्राणम्-इव-आदृत:
the senses with life breath like caressed
With the sounds of the singing of the songs, and of musical instruments, and the loud chanting of the Vedas, Yudhishthira went to receive The Lord of the senses, Shree Krishna, as if the senses were revived by the life breath.
दृष्ट्वा विक्लिन्नहृदय: कृष्णं स्नेहेन पाण्डव: ।
चिराद् दृष्टं प्रियतमं सस्वजेऽथ पुन: पुन: ॥२५॥
दृष्ट्वा विक्लिन्न-हृदय:
seeing, with joy over-flowing heart,
कृष्णम् स्नेहेन पाण्डव:
Krishna, affectionately, the Paandava,
चिरात् दृष्टम् प्रियतमम्
after long getting to see, the beloved,
सस्वजे-अथ पुन: पुन:
embraced then again and again
The Paandava Yudhishthira, getting to see the beloved after a long time, met Him with his heart over-flowing with joy and he affectionately embraced Him again and again.
दोर्भ्यां परिष्वज्य रमामलालयं मुकुन्दगात्रं नृपतिर्हताशुभ: ।
लेभे परां निर्वृतिमश्रुलोचनो हृष्यत्तनुर्विस्मृतलोकविभ्रम: ॥२६॥
दोर्भ्याम् परिष्वज्य रमा-अमल-
with two arms embracing, Ramaa's pure
आलयम् मुकुन्द-गात्रम्
abode, Mukunda's body,
नृपति:-हत-अशुभ:
the king's destroyed were the evils,
लेभे पराम् निर्वृतिम्-
gained and supreme bliss,
अश्रु-लोचन: हृष्यत्-तनु:-
with tear filled eyes, horripilated body,
विस्मृत-लोक-विभ्रम:
forgot the world delusive
As he embraced with two arms, the body of Mukunda, the sacred abode of Ramaa, the king's evils were destroyed and he achieved supreme bliss. His eyes were full of tears, and the body was full of horripilation, as he forgot the delusive world.
तं मातुलेयं परिरभ्य निर्वृतो भीम: स्मयन् प्रेमजवाकुलेन्द्रिय: ।
यमौ किरीटी च सुहृत्तमं मुदा प्रवृद्धबाष्पा: परिरेभिरेऽच्युतम् ॥२७॥
तम् मातुलेयम् परिरभ्य
Him, the maternal cousin, embraced
निर्वृत: भीम: स्मयन्
with joy Bheema, smilingly,
प्रेम-जव-आकुल-इन्द्रिय:
with love overflowing, confused senses,
यमौ किरीटी च सुहृत्-तमम्
the twins, (Nakula Sahadeva) (Arjuna) friend most dear,
मुदा प्रवृद्ध-बाष्पा:
with delight, profusely crying,
परिरेभिरे-अच्युतम्
embraced The Infinite Lord
Bheema smilingly embraced with joy his maternal cousin, the twins, Nakula and Sahadeva met Him with overflowing love and confused senses, and Arjuna crying profusely embraced his most dear friend, The Infinite Lord.
अर्जुनेन परिष्वक्तो यमाभ्यामभिवादित: ।
ब्राह्मणेभ्यो नमस्कृत्य वृद्धेभ्यश्च यथार्हत: ॥२८॥
अर्जुनेन परिष्वक्त:
by Arjuna, embraced,
यमाभ्याम्-अभिवादित:
by the twins greeted,
ब्राह्मणेभ्य: नमस्कृत्य
to the Braahmanas bowed,
वृद्धेभ्य:-च यथा-अर्हत:
and to the elders accordingly
Krishna was embraced by Arjuna, greeted by the twins, Nakula and Sahadeva. He then bowed to the Braahmanas and the elders accordingly.
मानितो मानयामास कुरुसृञ्जयकैकयान् ।
सूतमागधगन्धर्वा वन्दिनश्चोपमन्त्रिण: ॥२९॥
मानित: मानयामास
being honoured, (He) honoured
कुरु-सृञ्जय-कैकयान्
the Kurus, the Srinjayas, and the Kaikeyas
सूत-मागध-गन्धर्वा:
the Sutas, Maagadhas and the Gandharvas
वन्दिन:-च-उपमन्त्रिण:
bards and the ministers
He, honoured by the Kurus, the Srinjayas, and the Kekayas, the Sutas, Maagadhas and the Gandharvas, the bards and the ministers, in return honoured them. …
मृदङ्गशङ्खपटहवीणापणवगोमुखै: ।
ब्राह्मणाश्चारविन्दाक्षं तुष्टुवुर्ननृतुर्जगु: ॥३०॥
मृदङ्ग-शङ्ख-पटह-
with drums, conch, tabors,
वीणा-पणव-गोमुखै:
Veenaa, Panava and Gomukha,
ब्राह्मणा:-च-अरविन्दाक्षम्
Braahmanas and The Lotus eyed Lord
तुष्टुवु:-ननृतु:-जगु:
sang praises, danced and sang
With drums, conch, tabors, Veenaa, Panava and Gomukha, sang and danced, and the Braahmanas sang praises of The lotus-eyed Lord.
एवं सुहृद्भि: पर्यस्त: पुण्यश्लोकशिखामणि: ।
संस्तूयमानो भगवान् विवेशालङ्कृतं पुरम् ॥३१॥
एवम् सुहृद्भि: पर्यस्त:
thus extolled, by dear one accompanied
पुण्यश्लोक-शिखामणि:
by the pure famed, highest jewels,
संस्तूयमान: भगवान्
praises sung of, The Lord
विवेश-अलङ्कृतम् पुरम्
entered the well decorated city
Thus extolled and accompanied by the dear ones, The highest of the pure famed, The Lord entered the well decorated city.
संसिक्तवर्त्म करिणां मदगन्धतोयैश्चित्रध्वजै: कनकतोरणपूर्णकुम्भै: ।
मृष्टात्मभिर्नवदुकूलविभूषणस्रग्गन्धैर्नृभिर्युवतिभिश्च विराजमानम् ॥३२॥
संसिक्त-वर्त्म करिणां मद
sprinkled roads, of the elephants in rut,
गन्धतोयै चित्र-ध्वजै:
scented water, colourful flags,
कनक-तोरण-पूर्ण-कुम्भै:
golden gateways, filled pitchers,
मृष्ट-आत्मभि:-नव-दुकूल-
well bathed persons, new clothes
विभूषण-स्रक्-गन्धै:-नृभि:-
and ornaments wearing, with garlands scented men,
युवतिभि:-च विराजमानम्
young women and consisting of
The city of Indraprastha consisted of roads sprinkled with the elephants in rut, and with scented water, colourful flags, golden gateways and pitchers full of water, having men and young women, well bathed adorned in new clothes and ornaments and scented garlands.
उद्दीप्तदीपबलिभि: प्रतिसद्मजालनिर्यातधूपरुचिरं विलसत्पताकम् ।
मूर्धन्यहेमकलशै रजतोरुशृङ्गैर्जुष्टं ददर्श भवनै: कुरुराजधाम ॥३३॥
उद्दीप्त-दीप-बलिभि:
with kindled lamps rows,
प्रति-सद्म-जाल-निर्यात-
from every window lattice flowing out
धूप-रुचिरम् विलसत्-पताकम्
fumes beautiful, swaying flags,
मूर्धन्य-हेम-कलशै:
on the top with golden pots,
रजत-उरु-शृङ्गै:-जुष्टम्
silver huge domes, bearing,
ददर्श भवनै: कुरु-राज-धाम
saw with the palaces, the Kaurava king's capital
Lord Krishna saw the capital of the Kaurava king with palaces, bearing huge silver domes, with golden pots on them, flags swaying in the breeze, scented fumes flowing out of the lattices of the windows, and rows of kindled lamps.
प्राप्तं निशम्य नरलोचनपानपात्रमौत्सुक्यविश्लथितकेशदुकूलबन्धा: ।
सद्यो विसृज्य गृहकर्म पतींश्च तल्पे द्रष्टुं ययुर्युवतय: स्म नरेन्द्रमार्गे ॥३४॥
प्राप्तम् निशम्य नर-लोचन-
has arrived hearing, of the human eyes
पान-पात्रम्-औत्सुक्य-विश्लथित-
drink worthy, with excitement loosened
केश-दुकूल-बन्धा:
hair, and dress knots,
सद्य: विसृज्य गृह-कर्म
immediately abandoning household work
पतीन्-च तल्पे द्रष्टुम् ययु:
husbands and on the bed, to see went
युवतय: स्म नरेन्द्र-मार्गे
the young women, on the royal path
As the young women heard of the arrival of the One worthy to be drunk by the vessel of the human eyes, Lord Krishna, the knots of their hair and clothes loosened, they immediately abandoned their household work and the husbands on the bed, and came out on the royal path to watch Him.
तस्मिन् सुसङ्कुल इभाश्वरथद्विपद्भि: कृष्णं सभार्यमुपलभ्य गृहाधिरूढा: ।
नार्यो विकीर्य कुसुमैर्मनसोपगुह्य सुस्वागतं विदधुरुत्स्मयवीक्षितेन ॥३५॥
तस्मिन् सुसङ्कुल इभ-अश्व-रथ-
in that crowded with elephants, horses, chariots,
द्विपद्भि: कृष्णम् सभार्यम्-
foot soldiers, Krishna, with the wives,
उपलभ्य गृह-अधिरूढा:
saw on the house tops climbed
नार्य: विकीर्य कुसुमै:-मनसा-
women showering flowers, mentally
उपगुह्य सुस्वागतम् विदधु:
embraced, and welcome extended
उत्स्मय-वीक्षितेन
with love lorn sight
The path was crowded with elephants, horses chariots, and foot soldiers. There, the women climbing on the house tops, saw Krishna with His wives, and showered flowers as they mentally embraced Him and extended their welcome and looked at Him with love-lorn glances.
ऊचु: स्त्रिय: पथि निरीक्ष्य मुकुन्दपत्नीस्तारा यथोडुपसहा: किमकार्यमूभि: ।
यच्चक्षुषां पुरुषमौलिरुदारहासलीलावलोककलयोत्सवमातनोति ॥३६॥
ऊचु: स्त्रिय: पथि निरीक्ष्य
said the women, on the path watching,
मुकुन्द-पत्नी:-यथा-उडुप-सहा:
of Mukunda's wives, like the moon with
किम्-अकारि-अमूभि:
what was done by them
यत्-चक्षुषाम् पुरुष-मौलि:-
that for the eyes, of the men The Best
उदार-हास-लीला-अवलोक-
by winsome smile, sportful glances,
कलय:-उत्सवम्-आतनोति
constantly feast lavishes
The women seeing the wives of Mukunda on the path with Him, like the moon with the stars, said, 'What meritorious deeds did they do, in that, He, The Best of the men, constantly lavishes a feast for their eyes, with His winsome smiles and sportful glances.'
तत्र तत्रोपसङ्गम्य पौरा मङ्गलपाणय: ।
चक्रु: सपर्यां कृष्णाय श्रेणीमुख्या हतैनस: ॥३७॥
तत्र तत्र-उपसङ्गम्य
here and there, coming together
पौरा: मङ्गल-पाणय:
the citizens with auspicious articles in hands
चक्रु: सपर्या कृष्णाय
did worship of Krishna,
श्रेणी-मुख्या: हत-एनस:
the prominent and sinless
Here and there, the prominent and sinless citizens came together with auspicious articles in hands and worshipped Krishna.
अन्त:पुरजनै: प्रीत्या मुकुन्द: फुल्ललोचनै: ।
ससम्भ्रमैरभ्युपेत: प्राविशद् राजमन्दिरम् ॥३८॥
अन्त:पुर-जनै: प्रीत्या
by the women, delightfully,
मुकुन्द: फुल्ल-लोचनै:
Mukunda with eyes blooming,
ससम्भ्रमै:-अभ्युपेत:
excited, was welcomed
प्राविशत् राज-मन्दिरम्
entered the royal palace
Mukunda was welcomed by the women of the palace with delight and blooming eyes and excitement, as He entered the royal palace.
पृथा विलोक्य भ्रात्रेयं कृष्णं त्रिभुवनेश्वरम् ।
प्रीतात्मोत्थाय पर्यङ्कात् सस्नुषा परिषस्वजे ॥३९॥
पृथा विलोक्य भ्रात्रेयम्
Kunti, seeing brother's son,
कृष्णम् त्रिभुवन-ईश्वरम्
Krishna, of the three worlds The Lord
प्रीत-आत्मा-उत्थाय पर्यङ्कात्
with delightful soul, rising from the bed,
स-स्नुषा परिषस्वजे
with Draupadi, embraced (Him)
Kunti, on seeing her brother's son Shree Krishna, The Lord of the three worlds, was delighted at heart, and arose from the bed with her daughter in law Draupadi, and embraced Him.
गोविन्दं गृहमानीय देवदेवेशमादृत: ।
पूजायां नाविदत् कृत्यं प्रमोदोपहतो नृप: ॥४०॥
गोविन्दम् गृहम्-आनीय
Shree Krishna, to the palace having brought,
देव-देवेशम्-आदृत:
the Ruler of the gods Supreme, with reverence
पूजायाम् न-अविदत् कृत्यम्
to worship did not know the procedure
प्रमोद-उपहत: नृप:
with joy overwhelmed the king
King Yudhishthira was overwhelmed with joy, with reverence having brought, Govinda, The Supreme Ruler of the gods, to his palace, he did not know how to proceed to worship Him.
पितृष्वसुर्गुरुस्त्रीणां कृष्णश्चक्रेऽभिवादनम् ।
स्वयं च कृष्णया राजन् भगिन्या चाभिवन्दित: ॥४१॥
पितृष्वसु:-गुरु-स्त्रीणाम्
to aunt, and elderly women
कृष्ण:-चक्रे-अभिवादनम्
Krishna did greetings,
स्वयम् च कृष्णया राजन्
by Himself and by Krishnaa (Draupadi), O King!
भगिन्या च-अभिवन्दित:
sister and was greeted
O King! Krishna extended His greetings to His aunt Kunti and the other elderly women and was Himself greeted by Krishna (Draupadi) His sister.
श्वश्र्वा संचोदिता कृष्णा कृष्णपत्नीश्च सर्वश: ।
आनर्च रुक्मिणीं सत्यां भद्रां जाम्बवतीं तथा ॥४२॥
श्वश्र्वा संचोदिता कृष्णा
by the mother in law, directed, Draupadi,
कृष्ण-पत्नी:-च सर्वश:
Krishna's wives and all
आनर्च रुक्मिणीम् सत्याम्
honoured Rukmini, Satyaa,
भद्राम् जाम्बवतीम् तथा
Bhadraa, Jaambavati also
Directed by her mother in law, Draupadi honoured all the wives of Shree Krishna, Rukmini, Satyaa, Bhadraa, and also Jaambavati.
कालिन्दीं मित्रविन्दां च शैब्यां नाग्नजितीं सतीम् ।
अन्याश्चाभ्यागता यास्तु वास:स्रङ्मण्डनादिभि: ॥४३॥
कालिन्दीम् मित्रविन्दाम् च
Kaalindee, Mitravindaa,
शैब्याम् नाग्नजितीम् सतीम्
Shaivyaa, Nagnajitee, Sati,
अन्या:-च-अभ्यागता: या:-तु
others and come who had indeed
वास:-स्रक्-मण्डन-आदिभि:
with clothes, garlands ornaments and things
She honoured Kaalindee, Mitravindaa, Shaivyaa, Nagnajitee, Sati, and the others who had come, with clothes, garlands ornaments and things.
सुखं निवासयामास धर्मराजो जनार्दनम् ।
ससैन्यं सानुगामात्यं सभार्यं च नवं नवम् ॥४४॥
सुखम् निवासयामास
comfortably lodged
धर्मराज: जनार्दनम्
Yudhishthira, Lord Krishna
स-सैन्यम् स-अनुग-आमात्यम्
with the army, with attendents and minister,
स-भार्यम् च नवम् नवम्
with the wives and, in fresh lodgings
Yudhishthira comfortably lodged Lord Krishna along with the army, the attendents, ministers and wives, in fresh lodgings.
तर्पयित्वा खाण्डवेन वह्निं फाल्गुनसंयुत: ।
मोचयित्वा मयं येन राज्ञे दिव्या सभा कृता ॥४५॥
तर्पयित्वा खाण्डवेन
propitiated by the Khaandava forest
वह्निम् फाल्गुन-संयुत:
the fire, Arjuna accompanied with
मोचयित्वा मयम् येन राज्ञे
freed Maya, by whom for the king (Yudhishthira)
दिव्याम् सभा कृता
the celestial meeting hall was constructed
Accompanied with Arjuna, He had propitiated the fire by burning the Khaandava forest, and had rescued Maya, the demon, who had constructed a celestial meeting hall for king Yudhishthira.
उवास कतिचिन्मासान् राज्ञ: प्रियचिकीर्षया ।
विहरन् रथमारुह्य फाल्गुनेन भटैर्वृत: ॥४६॥
उवास कतिचित्-मासान्
stayed (there) for some months,
राज्ञ: प्रिय-चिकीर्षया
for the king's pleasure wanting
विहरन् रथम्-आरुह्य
went for excursions on the chariot mounted,
फाल्गुनेन भटै:-वृत:
with Arjuna and the attendents surrounded
He stayed there for some months for the pleasure of the king. Accompanied by Arjuna, and surrounded by the attendents, He mounted on the chariot, and went for excursions.
इति श्रीमद्भागवते महापुराणे पारमहंस्यां संहितायां दशमस्कन्धे उत्तरार्धे कृष्णस्येन्द्रप्रस्थगमनं नामैकसप्ततितम: अध्याय: ॥७१॥
Thus ends the seventy-first discourse entitled 'Shree Krishna's visit to Indraprastha,' in the latter half of Book Ten of the great and glorious Bhaagavata-Puraana.
