श्री शुक उवाच -
Shree Shuka said -
अथोषस्युपवृत्तायां कुक्कुटान् कूजतोऽशपन् ।
गृहीतकण्ठ्य: पतिभिर्माधव्यो विरहातुरा: ॥१॥
अथ-उषसि-उपवृत्तायाम्
then, at dawn approaching,
कुक्कुटान् कूज:-अशपन्
the cocks crowing, cursed
गृहीत-कण्ठ्य:
arms in the neck
पतिभि:-माधव्य:
by husband, of Maadhava's wives,
विरह-आतुरा:
seperation fearing
Then, as dawn approached and the cocks crowed, the wives of Maadhava, with their husbands arms around their necks, cursed the cocks, for fear of seperation from Him.
वयांस्यरूरुवन् कृष्णं बोधयन्तीव वन्दिन: ।
गायत्स्वलिष्वनिद्राणि मन्दारवनवायुभि: ॥२॥
वयांसि-उरूरुवन्
birds chirped,
कृष्णम् बोधयन्ति-इव
Krishna to wake up, as if,
वन्दिन:
the bards,
गायत्सु-अलिषु-
humming birds,
अनिद्राणि मन्दार-
awakened by the Mandaara
वन-वायुभि:
groves' breeze
Awakened by the breeze blowing in the groves of Mandaara, the bees hummed and the birds chirped, as the bards would sing, to awaken Krishna.
मुहुर्तं तं तु वैदर्भी नामृष्यदतिशोभनम् ।
परिरम्भणविश्लेषात् प्रियबाह्वन्तरं गता ॥३॥
मुहुर्तम् तम् तु
sacred hour that, indeed,
वैदर्भी न-अमृष्यत्-
Rukmini, did not welcome,
अति-शोभनम्
very auspicious,
परिरम्भण-विश्लेषात्
from embrace tearing away
प्रिय-बाहु-अन्तरम् गता
in beloved's arms cradeled
Rukmini did not welcome even that very auspicious hour, for the fear of being torn apart from the arms of her beloved in which she was cradeled.
ब्राह्मे मुहुर्त उत्थाय वार्युपस्पृश्य माधव: ।
दध्यौ प्रसन्नकरण आत्मानं तमस: परम् ॥४॥
ब्राह्मे मुहुर्त उत्थाय
in the early hour arising,
वारि-उस्पृश्य माधव:
with water washing, Maadhava,
दध्यौ प्रसन्न-करण:
meditated, with serene mind
आत्मानम्
on The Self
तमस: परम्
Maayaa beyond
Rising in the early hour, and washing with water, Maadhava meditated on The Self, which is beyond Maayaa.
एकं स्वयंज्योतिरनन्यमव्ययं स्वसंस्थया नित्यनिरस्तकल्मषम् ।
ब्रह्माख्यमस्योद्भवनाशहेतुभि: स्वशक्तिभिर्लक्षितभाव निर्वृतिम् ॥५॥
एकम् स्वयम्-ज्योति:-
One, Self-luminious,
अनन्यम्-अव्ययम् स्व-संस्थया
without a second, indestructable,
स्व-संस्थया
by own nature,
नित्य-निरस्त-कल्मषम्
ever devoid of Avidyaa
ब्रह्म-आख्यम्-
Brahma called,
अस्य-उद्भव-नाश-हेतुभि:
of this, appearance, distruction cause,
स्व-शक्तिभि:-
by Own potencies
लक्षितभाव निर्वृतिम्
indicated blissful nature
The Self, which is one only, self-luminious, without a second, indestrctible, by own nature devoid of Avidyaa, called as Brahma, the cause of the appearance, maintenance and distruction of this universe, by His own potencies is indicated by its own blissful nature.
अथाप्लुतोऽम्भस्यमले यथाविधि क्रियाकलापं परिधाय वाससी ।
चकार सन्ध्योपगमादि सत्तमो हुतानलो ब्रह्म जजाप वाग्यत: ॥६॥
अथ-आप्लुत:-अम्भसि-अमले
then having bathed in water pure
यथा-विधि क्रिया-कलापम्
duly doing the rituals,
परिधाय वाससी
wearing the two cloathes,
चकार सन्ध्या-उपगम-आदि
did Sandhyaa chanting etc.,
सत्तम: हुत-अनल:
foremost of the virtuous, oblated in the fire,
ब्रह्म जजाप वाग्यत:
Brahma, meditated on, in silence
Then, The foremost of the virtuous, having bathed in pure waters, doing the ritual duly, wearing the two cloathes, did Sandhyaa and chanting, oblated into the fires, and meditated on Brahman in silence.
उपस्थायार्कमुद्यन्तं तर्पयित्वाऽऽत्मन: कला: ।
देवानृषीन् पितृन् वृद्धान् विप्रानभ्यर्च्य चात्मवान् ॥७॥
उपस्थाय-अर्कम्-उद्यन्तम्
standing before the Sun rising
तर्पयित्वा-
offering water,
आत्मन: कला:
to Own parts,
देवान्-ऋषीन् पितृन् वृद्धान्
to the gods, sages, Pitris, elders,
विप्रान्-अभ्यर्च्य च-आत्मवान्
Braahmins, worshipping, and in Self established
He, established in Self, stood before the rising Sun, and offered water. Then He worshipped, His own parts, the gods, sages, Pitris, elders and Braahmins.
धेनूनां रुक्मशृङ्गीणां साध्वीनां मौक्तिकस्रजाम् ।
पयस्विनीनां गृष्टीनां सवत्सानां सुवाससाम् ॥८॥
धेनूनाम् रुक्म-शृङ्गीणाम्
cows, golden horned,
साध्वीनाम्
docile,
मौक्तिक-स्रजाम्
pearl necklace wearing,
पयस्विनीनाम्
milching,
गृष्टीनाम् सवत्सानाम्
pregnent, with calves,
सुवाससाम्
well cloathed
He gave docile, milching cows, with gold encrusted horns, wearing pearl necklaces, well decorated with cloathes, pregnant, and having calves.
ददौ रूप्यखुराग्राणां क्षौमाजिनतिलै: सह ।
अलङ्कृतेभ्यो वेप्रेभ्यो बद्धं बद्धं दिने दिने ॥९॥
ददौ रूप्य-खुर-अग्राणाम्
gave silver plated front hoofs,
क्षौम-अजिन-तिलै: सह
silk and deer skin sesam seeds with,
अलङ्कृतेभ्य: विप्रेभ्य:
to the ornamented Braahmins,
बद्धम् बद्धम्
thirteen thousand and eigthy four
दिने दिने
day by day
Day by day, He gave to the ornamented Braahmins, thirteen thousand and eigthy four cows with silver plated front hoofs, along with silk, deer skin and sesam seeds.
गोविप्रदेवतावृद्धगुरून् भूतानि सर्वश: ।
नमस्कृत्यात्मसम्भूतीर्मङ्गलानि समस्पृशत् ॥१०॥
गो-विप्र-देवता-
cow, Braahmin, gods,
वृद्ध-गुरून्
elders, preceptors,
भूतानि सर्वश:
beings all over,
नमस्कृत्य-
bowing to,
आत्म-सम्भूती:-
the Self-menifestations,
मङ्गलानि समस्पृशत्
auspicious articles touched
After saluting the cows, Braahmins, gods, elders, preceptors, and the beings all over the world, the manifestations of His own Self, He touched the auspicious articles.
आत्मानं भूषयामास नरलोकविभूषणम् ।
वासोभिर्भूषणै: स्वीयैर्दिव्यस्रगनुलेपनै: ॥११॥
आत्मानम् भूषयामास
Himself adorned,
नर-लोक-विभूषणम्
of the human world, The Ornament,
वासोभि:-भूषणै:
with cloathes, ornaments,
स्वीयै:-दिव्य-
own divine
स्रक्-अनुलेपनै:
garlands and pigments
Then, The One ornament of human beings, adorned Himself with His Own divine cloathes, ornaments, garlands and pigments.
अवेक्ष्याज्यं तथाऽऽदर्शं गोवृषद्विजदेवता: ।
कामांश्च सर्ववर्णानां पौरान्त:पुरचारिणाम् ।
प्रदाप्य प्रकृती: कामै: प्रतोष्य प्रत्यनन्दत ॥१२॥
अवेक्ष्य-आज्यम्
looking at ghee,
तथा-आदर्शम्
and the mirror,
गो-वृष-द्विज-देवता:
the cow, bull, Braahmin, gods,
कामान्-च सर्व-वर्णानाम्
the desires of all classes,
पौर-अन्त:पुर-चारिणाम्
in the city and inner chambers living,
प्रदाप्य प्रकृती: कामै:
conferred by desires natural
प्रतोष्य प्रत्यनन्दत
gratifying, greeted
Then, he looked at the ghee, and in the mirror, and at the cows, bulls, Braahmins, and gods. Then He fulfilled the desires of all the classes, of the dwellers of the city and the inner chamber and gratifying their natural desires, greeted them.
संविभज्याग्रतो विप्रान् स्रक्ताम्बूलानुलेपनै: ।
सुहृद: प्रकृतीर्दारानुपायुङ्क्त तत: स्वयम् ॥१३॥
संविभज्य-अग्रत: विप्रान्
dividing first for the Braahmins,
स्रक्-ताम्बूल-अनुलेपनै:
the garlands, beetle leaves, pigments,
सुहृद: प्रकृती:-दारान्-
friends, ministers, wives,
अनुपायुङ्क्त तत: स्वयम्
used then Himself
He first divided the garlands, beatle leaves, pigments, among the Braahmins, friends, ministers and wives, then He used them Himself.
तावत् सूत उपानीय स्यन्दनं परमाद्भुतम् ।
सुग्रीवाद्यैर्हयैर्युक्तं प्रणम्यावस्थितोऽग्रत: ॥१४॥
तावत् सूत उपानीय
by then, the charioteer, bringing
स्यन्दनम् परम्-अद्भुतम्
the chariot splendid,
सुग्रीव-आद्यै:-हयै:-युक्तम्
by Sugreeva and other horses drawn
प्रणम्य-अवस्थित:-अग्रत:
bowing, stood in front
By then, the charioteer, Daaruk, brought the splendid chariot, drawn by Sugreeva and other horses, and bowing to Him, stood before Him.
गृहीत्वा पाणिना पाणी सारथेस्तमथारुहत् ।
सात्यक्युद्धवसंयुक्त: पूर्वाद्रिमिव भास्कर: ॥१५॥
गृहीत्वा पाणिना

पाणी सारथे:-
the hand of the chaioteer,
तम्-अथ-आरुहत्
that then mounted,
सात्यकि-उद्धव-संयुक्त:
Saatyaki and Uddhava along with,
पूर्व-अद्रिम्-इव भास्कर:
in the eastern sky like the Sun
Then, He mounted the chariot, holding the hand of the charioteer in His own hand, along with Saatyaki and Uddhava, like the Sun rising in the eastern sky.
ईक्षितोऽन्त:पुरस्त्रीणां सव्रीडप्रेमवीक्षितै: ।
कृच्छ्राद् विसृष्टो निरगाज्जातहासो हरन् मन: ॥१६॥
ईक्षित:-अन्त:पुर-स्त्रीणाम्
watched by the inner chamber women,with shy loving glances,
सव्रीड-प्रेम-वीक्षितै:
with shy loving glances,
कृच्छ्राद् विसृष्ट:
reluctantly permitted to go,
निरगात्-जात-हास:
went, with a smile,
हरन् मन:
captivating the hearts
He was watched by the women of the inner chambers with shy and loving glances, and reluctantly was permitted to go. He then smiled at them and captivated their hearts, as He went away.
सुधर्माख्यां सभां सर्वैर्वृष्णिभि: परिवारित: ।
प्राविशद् यन्निविष्टानां न सन्त्यङ्ग षडूर्मय: ॥१७॥
सुधर्मा-आख्याम् सभाम्
in the Sudharmaa named hall
सर्वै:-वृष्णिभि: परिवारित:
with all the Vrishnees gathered,
प्राविशद् यत्-निविष्टानाम्
entered, which entering
न सन्ति-
not are,

O Dear!
षट्-ऊर्मय:
The six waves (of existence)
O Dear! Then, with all the Vrishnees gathered, He entered the hall named Sudharmaa, entering which, the six waves of existence do not disturb. (hunger, thirst, grief, delusion, old age death).
तत्रोपविष्ट: परमासने विभुर्बभौ स्वभासा ककुभोऽवभासयन् ।
वृतो नृसिंहैर्यदुभिर्यदूत्तमो यथोडुराजो दिवि तारकागणै: ॥१८॥
तत्र-उपविष्ट: परम-आसने
there seated on an exalted throne,
विभु:-बभौ स्व-भासा
The Almighty, became by own lustre
ककुभ:-अवभासयन्
the directions enlightening,
वृत: नृसिंहै:-
surrounded by men lions
यदुभि:-यदु-उत्तम:
of the Yadus, The Yadu's foremost,
यथा-उडुराज: दिवि
like the moon in the heaven
तारका-गणै:
by the star hosts
There, The Almighty, seated on an exalted throne, became the enlightener of the directions by His own lustre. The foremost of the Yadus, surrounded by the men lions of the Yadus, was like the moon in the heaven in the midst of hosts of stars.
तत्रोपमन्त्रिणो राजन् नानाहास्यरसैर्विभुम् ।
उपतस्थुर्नटाचार्या नर्तक्यस्ताण्डवै: पृथक् ॥१९॥
तत्र-उपमन्त्रिण:

O King!
नाना-हास्य-रसै:-
by various humorous emusement
विभुम् उपतस्थु:-
The Lord entertained,
नट-आचार्या:
the dance masters,
नर्तक्य:-ताण्डवै: पृथक्
the dancers by dance different
O King! There, the jesters entertained The Lord with various humorous entertainments, and the dance masters and the dancers with different dances.
मृदङ्गवीणामुरजवेणुतालदरस्वनै: ।
ननृतुर्जगुस्तुष्टुवुश्च सूतमागधवन्दिन: ॥२०॥
मृदङ्ग-वीणा-मुरज-
with Mridanga, Veenaa, Muraja,
वेणु-ताल-दर-स्वनै:
flute, Taala, conch sounds
ननृतु:-जगु:-
danced, sang,
तुष्टुवु:-च
extalled and
सूत-मागध-वन्दिन:
the Sutas, Maagadhas, and the bards
The Sutas, Maagadhas, and the bards danced and sang with the sounds of Mridanga, Veenaa, Muraja, flute, Taala, and conch.
तत्राहुर्ब्राह्मणा: केचिदासीना ब्रह्मवादिन: ।
पूर्वेषां पुण्ययशसां राज्ञां चाकथयन् कथा ॥२१॥
तत्र-आहु:-ब्राह्मणा:
there, spoke the Braahmins
केचित्-आसीना:
some seated,
ब्रह्म-वादिन:
in Vedas exposition skilled,
पूर्वेषाम् पुण्य-यशसाम्
of the ancient sacred famed
राज्ञाम् च-अकथयन् कथा
kings and telling stories
There, some Braahmins well versed in the exposition of the Vedas, expounded the Vedas, while others related stories of the ancient kings with sacred renown.
तत्रैक: पुरुषो राजन्नागतोऽपूर्वदर्शन: ।
विज्ञापितो भगवते प्रतीहारै: प्रवेशित: ॥२२॥
तत्र-एक: पुरुष:
there, one man,
राजन्-
O King!
आगत:-अपूर्व-दर्शन:
came, before not seen
विज्ञापित: भगवते
announced to The Lord,
प्रतीहारै: प्रवेशित:
by the porters ushered
O King! a man came there, who was never seen before. He was announced to The Lord and ushered in by the porters.
स नमस्कृत्य कृष्णाय परेशाय कृताञ्जलि: ।
राज्ञामावेदयद् दु:खं जरासन्धनिरोधजम् ॥२३॥

he, bowing,
कृष्णाय परेशाय
to Krishna The Supreme Lord,
कृत-अञ्जलि:
and with joined palms
राज्ञाम्-आवेदयत् दु:खम्
of the kings reported the suffering
जरासन्ध-निरोधजम्
by Jaraasandha's captivity
He bowed to The Supreme Lord Krishna, and reported the sufferings of the kings because of being captives of Jaraasandha.
ये च दिग्विजये तस्य सन्नतिं न ययुर्नृपा: ।
प्रसह्य रुद्धास्तेनासन्नयुते द्वे गिरिव्रजे ॥२४॥
ये च दिग्विजये
those and in the quarters' conquering,
तस्य सन्नतिम्
him surrender
न ययु:-नृपा:
did not go to, the kings,
प्रसह्य रुद्धा:-तेन-
forcibly, captivated by him,
आसन्-अयुते द्वे
(who) were twenty thousand
गिरिव्रजे
in Girivraja
Those kings, twenty thousand of them, who at the time of his conquering the quarters, did not go in his surrender, he foricibly captivated them in Girivraja.
कृष्ण कृष्णाप्रमेयात्मन् प्रपन्नभयभञ्जन ।
वयं त्वां शरणं यामो भवभीता: पृथग्धिय: ॥२५॥
कृष्ण कृष्ण-
Krishna! O Krishna!
अप्रमेय-आत्मन्
of Knowledge and Truth Embodiment!
प्रपन्न-भय-भञ्जन
of the surrendered's fears destroyer,
वयम् त्वाम् शरणम् याम:
we in You refuge seek
भव-भीता: पृथक्-धिय:
of the cycle afraid, with differential outlook
'Krishna! O Krishna! O Embodiment of knowledge Truth and Bliss! You are the destroyer of the fears of those who surrender to You. We, who have differential outlook and are afraid of the cycle of birth and death, seek refuge in You.'
लोको विकर्मनिरत: कुशले प्रमत्त: कर्मण्ययं त्वदुदिते भवदर्चने स्वे ।
यस्तावदस्य बलवानिह जीविताशां सद्यश्छिनत्त्यनिमिषाय नमोऽस्तु तस्मै ॥२६॥
लोक: विकर्म-निरत:
people, in prohibited acts are engaged,
कुशले प्रमत्त: कर्मणि-
are good in dodging in acts
अयम् त्वत्-उदिते
he, by You enjoined
भवत्-अर्चने स्वे
in Your worship of Self
य:-तावत्-अस्य बलवान्-इह
he, then, his, the powerful (Time) here,
जीवित-आशाम् सद्य:-
of living the hope, soon
छिनत्ति-अनिमिषाय
cuts off, for The Time vigilant (You)
नम:-अस्तु तस्मै
salutations be, for Him
People are engaged in prohibitated acts and are good at dodging the one act enjoined by You, that of worshipping the Self. The powerful Time, here, then, cuts off his hope of living. To that vigilant Time, You, our salutations be.
लोके भवाञ्जगदिन: कलयावतीर्ण: सद्रक्षणाय खलनिग्रहणाय चान्य: ।
कश्चित् त्वदीयमतियातिनिदेशमीश किं वा जन: स्वकृतमृच्छति तन्न विद्म: ॥२७॥
लोके भवान्-जगदिन:
in the world, Your, the universe Lord's
कलया-अवतीर्ण:
part descended,
सत्-रक्षणाय
for the pious protection,
खल-निग्रहणाय
for the wicked chastisising
च-अन्य: कश्चित् त्वत्-इयम्-
and, other someone, Your this
अतियाति-निदेशम्-ईश
ignores direction O Lord!
किम् वा जन: स्वकृतम्-
what or, people own actions
ऋच्छति तन्न विद्म:
reaps, that we do not know
O Lord of the universe! In this world, as Your part have descended, for the protection of the pious and for chastisising the wicked. Then, how do some others,ignore Your directions. Or is it that the people suffer the consequences of their deeds? That we do not know.
स्वप्नायितं नृपसुखं परतन्त्रमीश शश्वद्भयेन मृतकेन धुरं वहाम: ।
हित्वा तदात्मनि सुखं त्वदनीहलभ्यं क्लिश्यामहेऽतिकृपणास्तव माययेह ॥२८॥
स्वप्नायितम् नृप-सुखम्
dream like rulership joy
परतन्त्रम्-ईश
is dependent O Lord!
शश्वत्-भयेन
by constant fear,
मृतकेन धुरम् वहाम:
by the dead body bear
हित्वा तत्-आत्मनि सुखम्
abandoning that Self joy
त्वत्-अनीह-लभ्यम्
by You the disinterested to be obtained,
क्लिश्यामहे-अति-कृपणा:
suffer, very miserably
तव मायया-इह
by Your Maayaa here
O Lord! The dream like joy of rulership is dependent on others. Abandoning the joy of the Self which is attainable by Your disinterested Self, we bear the burden of rulership on a dead body,with constant fear, and miserably suffer here, due to Your Maayaa.
तन्नो भवान् प्रणतशोकहराङ्घ्रियुग्मो बद्धान् वियुङ्क्ष्व मगधाह्वयकर्मपाशात् ।
यो भूभुजोऽयुतमतङ्गजवीर्यमेको बिभ्रद् रुरोध भवने मृगराडिवावी: ॥२९॥
तत्-न: भवान्
so, us, You
प्रणत-शोक-हर-अङ्घ्रि-युग्म:
surrendered sorrow remover, feet pair
बद्धान् वियुङ्क्ष्व
bound release,
मगध-आह्वय-कर्म-पाशात्
Jaraasandha named deeds' snares,
य: भूभुज:-अयुत-
who possesses thousand
मतङ्गज-वीर्यम्-एक:
elephants' strength alone,
बिभ्रद् रुरोध भवने
flaunting, captivated in the palace
मृग-राड्-इव-अवी:
a lion like flock of sheep
You, Whose pair of feet remove the sorrows of those who fall at them, do release us, who are bound by the snare of Karma named as Jaraasandha, who alone possesses the power of a thousand elephants, and has imprisoned us in the palace, like a lion rounds up a flock of sheep.
यो वै त्वया द्विनवकृत्व उदात्तचक्र भग्नो मृधे खलु भवन्तमनन्तवीर्यम् ।
जित्वा नृलोकनिरतं सकृदूढदर्पो युष्मत्प्रजा रुजति नोऽजित तद् विधेहि ॥३०॥
य: वै त्वया द्वि-नव-कृत्व:
who indeed by You twice nine times,
उदात्त-चक्र
O Wielder of the discus!
भग्न: मृधे खलु
broken in the battle, surely,
भवन्तम्-अनन्त-वीर्यम्
You of unlimited power,
जित्वा नृ-लोक-निरतम्
was won, as mortal men behaving,
सकृत्-ऊढ-दर्प:-
once, of increased pride,
युष्मत्-प्रजा रुजति न:-
Your subjects, persecutes us
अजित तद् विधेहि
O Invincible Lord! That consider
O Wielder of the discus! Jaraasandha who was defeated by You in battle eighteen times, and who conquered You, behaving as mortal men, just once, is bloated with pride. He persecutes us, Your subjects. O Invincible Lord! Do the needful.
दूत उवाच -
The messenger said -
इति मागधसंरुद्धा भवद्दर्शनकाङ्क्षिण: ।
प्रपन्ना: पादमूलं ते दीनानां शं विधीयताम् ॥३१॥
इति मागध-संरुद्धा:
thus, by Jaraasandha imprisoned
भवत्-दर्शन-काङ्क्षिण:
Your sight seeking
प्रपन्ना: पाद-मूलम् ते
fallen at feet Yours
दीनानाम् शम् विधीयताम्
for the helpless, peace grant
Thus, the kings imprisoned by Jaraasandha, seek Your sight and they the helpless, have fallen at Your feet, grant them peace.
श्री शुक उवाच -
Shree Shuka said -
राजदूते ब्रुवत्येवं देवर्षि: परमद्युति: ।
बिभ्रत् पिङ्गजटाभारं प्रादुरासीद् यथा रवि: ॥३२॥
राजदूते ब्रुवति-एवम्
the kings' messenger having said so
देवर्षि: परम-द्युति:
the divine sage with supreme lustre,
बिभ्रत् पिङ्ग-जटा-भारम्
adorned with golden matted locks,
प्रादु:-आसीत् यथा रवि:
appeared had like the Sun
When the messenger of the kings had thus said so, the divine sage Naarada, with unmatched lustre, and adorned with golden matted locks, appeared like the Sun.
तं दृष्ट्वा भगवान् कृष्ण: सर्वलोकेश्वरेश्वर: ।
ववन्द उत्थित: शीर्ष्णा ससभ्य: सानुगो मुदा ॥३३॥
तम् दृष्ट्वा
him seeing,
भगवान् कृष्ण:
The Lord Krishna,
सर्व-लोकेश्वर-ईश्वर:
of all the universe's lords, The Lord,
ववन्द उत्थित: शीर्ष्णा
bowed, arose, by head
ससभ्य: सानुग: मुदा
with the councillors and attendents with delight
Lord Krishna, the Lord of the lords of the universe, seeing him, arose and bowed to him with head bent low, along with the councillors and the attendents.
सभाजयित्वा विधिवत् कृतासनपरिग्रहम् ।
बभाषे सूनृतैर्वाक्यै: श्रद्धया तर्पयन् मुनिम् ॥३४॥
सभाजयित्वा विधिवत्
worshipped duly,
कृत-आसन-परिग्रहम्
having taken the seat,
बभाषे सूनृतै:-वाक्यै:
said with sweet words
श्रद्धया तर्पयन् मुनिम्
rspectfully delighting the sage
Lord Krishna duly worshipped the sage after he had taken the seat, then delighting him, respectfully spoke to him.
अपि स्विदद्य लोकानां त्रयाणामकुतोभयम् ।
ननु भूयान् भगवतो लोकान् पर्यटतो गुण: ॥३५॥
अपि स्वित्-अद्य
is it that now
लोकानाम् त्रयाणाम्-
of the worlds three
अकुत:-भयम्
are without fear
ननु भूयान् भगवत:
surely great by Your majesty
लोकान् पर्यटत: गुण:
the worlds' touring, gain
'O Sage! Is it that now the three worlds are without fear? Surely by Your majesty the touring of the worlds is a great gain.'
नहि तेऽविदितं किञ्चिल्लोकेष्वीश्वरकर्तृषु ।
अथ पृच्छामहे युष्मान् पाण्डवानां चिकीर्षितम् ॥३६॥
न-हि ते-अविदितम्
not, indeed to you is unknown
किञ्चित्-लोकेषु-
anything in the worlds,
ईश्वर-कर्तृषु
by The Almighty created,
अथ पृच्छामहे युष्मान्
therefore we ask you
पाण्डवानाम् चिकीर्षितम्
of the Paandavas intentions
In this world, created by The Almighty, nothing is unknown to you. Therefore we ask you about the intentions of the Paandavas.
श्री नारद उवाच -
Shree Naarada said -
दृष्टा मया ते बहुशो दुरत्यया माया विभो विश्वसृजश्च मायिन: ।
भूतेषु भूमंश्चरत: स्वशक्तिभिर्वह्नेरिवच्छन्नरुचो न मेऽद्भुतम् ॥३७॥
दृष्टा मया
seen by me
ते बहुश: दुरत्यया माया
Your many unsurpassable Maayaa
विभो
O Almighty!
विश्वसृज:-च मायिन:
of The universe Creator and conjurer,
भूतेषु भूमन्-चरत:
in the beings, O All-pervading! Abiding,
स्व-शक्तिभि:-
by Your own power
वह्ने:-इव-छन्न-रुच:
fire like hidden in the log
न मे-अद्भुतम्
not to me is strange
O Almighty! Your unsrpassable Maayaa is seen by me many a times. You, The Ctreator of the universe are a conjurer, The All-pervading, abiding in all the beings, like fire hidden in the logs. This, (Your asking of me) is not strange to me.
तवेहितं कोऽर्हति साधु वेदितुं स्वमाययेदं सृजतो नियच्छत: ।
यद् विद्यमानात्मतयावभासते तस्मै नमस्ते स्वविलक्षणात्मने ॥३८॥
तव्-ईहितम् क:-अर्हति
Your intentions who is capable
साधु वेदितुम्
of well knowing
स्व-मायया-इदम्
by Own Maayaa this
सृजत: नियच्छत:
create and destroy
यद् विद्यमान-आत्मतया-अवभासते
that (it is) existent, by Your Self, appears,
तस्मै नमस्ते
to Him salutations
स्व-विलक्षण-आत्मने
by nature incomprehensible The Self
Who is capable of knowing well Your intentions? You create and destroy this universe, which appears as existent by Your presence. To Him, by nature incomprihensible, The Self, salutations.
जीवस्य य: संसरतो विमोक्षणं न जानतोऽनर्थवहाच्छरीरत: ।
लीलावतारै: स्वयश:प्रदीपकं प्राज्वालयत्त्वा तमहं प्रपद्ये ॥३९॥
जीवस्य य: संसरत:
of the being, who is entangled in the cycle
विमोक्षणम् न जानत:-
deliverence not knowing,
अनर्थवहात्-शरीरत:
from the evil sourcing body
लीला-अवतारै:
by sportingly descending
स्व-यश:-प्रदीपकम्
Own glory light
प्राज्वालयत्-त्वा
enlightening You,
तम्-अहम् प्रपद्ये
to You I prostate
The being is entangled in the cycle of birth and death, and does not know the way to deliverence from the body, the source of evils. Sportingly You descend on this earth and light the lamp of Your own glory, to You I prostate.
अथाप्याश्रवये ब्रह्म नरलोकविडम्बनम् ।
राज्ञ: पैतृष्वसेयस्य भक्तस्य च चिकीर्षितम् ॥४०॥
अथ-अपि-आश्रवये
then also, will communicate
ब्रह्म
O Brahman
नर-लोक-विडम्बनम्
of the human world imitator
राज्ञ: पैतृष्वसेयस्य
the king, Your cousin
भक्तस्य च चिकीर्षितम्
devotee and intention
O Brahman! You imitate the ways of the human world, then also, I will communicate to You, the intentions of Your cousin and devotee.
यक्ष्यति त्वां मखेन्द्रेण राजसूयेन पाण्डव: ।
पारमेष्ठ्यकामो नृपतिस्तद् भवाननुमोदताम् ॥४१॥
यक्ष्यति त्वाम्
will worship You
मख-इन्द्रेण राजसूयेन
by the sacrifice foremost, Raajasooya,
पाण्डव: पारमेष्ठ्य-काम:
Paandava, beyond all desires,
नृपति:-तत्-
the king, that
भवान्-अनुमोदताम्
You may consent
The Pandava king will worship You through the foremost of the sacrifices, the Raajasooya. May You please consent to that.
तस्मिन् देव कतुवरे भवन्तं वै सुरादय: ।
दिदृक्षव: समेष्यन्ति राजानश्च यशस्विन: ॥४२॥
तस्मिन् देव कतुवरे
in that, O Lord! The sacrifice grand
भवन्तं वै सुरादय:
You, indeed, the gods and others
दिदृक्षव: समेष्यन्ति
to see will assemble
राजानश्च यशस्विन:
the kings illustrious
O Lord! In that grand sacrifice, the gods, the illustrious kings and others, eager to see You, will assemble.
श्रवणात् कीर्तनाद् ध्यानात् पूयन्तेऽन्तेवसायिन: ।
तव ब्रह्ममयस्येश किमुतेक्षाभिमर्शिन: ॥४३॥
श्रवणात् कीर्तनाद्
by hearing, repeating Your name,
ध्यानात् पूयन्ते-
meditating, are purified,
अन्ते-अवसायिन:
in the end, the low caste
तव ब्रह्ममयस्य-ईश
of You, The Brahma The Supreme Spirit,
किम्-उत्-ईक्षा-अभिमर्शिन:
what of indeed, of sight and touch
O Brahman! The Supreme Spirit! Even the low born are sanctified by hearing of You, singing Your praises, and meditating on You. What of those who have seen You, and touched You.
यस्यामलं दिवि यश: प्रथितं रसायां भूमौ च ते भुवनमङ्गल दिग्वितानम् ।
मन्दाकिनीति दिवि भोगवतीति चाधो गङ्गेति चेह चरणाम्बु पुनाति विश्वम् ॥४४॥
यस्य-अमलम् दिवि यश:
Whose pure in the heaven, glory,
प्रथितम् रसायाम् भूमौ च
is spread in the subterranean region, on earth and
ते भुवनमङ्गल
Your, for the universe The Blessing!
दिग्वितानम्
in the quarters spreading
मन्दाकिनी-इति दिवि
Mandaakini, thus, in the heaven,
भोगवती-इति च-अध:
Bhogavati, in subterranean regions,
गङ्गा-इति च-इह
Gangaa, thus, and here,
चरण-अम्बु पुनाति विश्वम्
feet's water purifies the world
Your taintless glory spread in the heaven, n the subterranean region, on earth, is a blessing for the universe and purifies the whole world. Just the water of Your feet, as Mandaakini in the heaven, as Bhogavati in the subterranean regions,and as Ganga here, purifies the world.
श्री शुक उवाच -
Shree Shuka said -
तत्र तेष्वात्मपक्षेष्वगृह्णत्सु विजिगीषया ।
वाच: पेशै: स्मयन् भृत्यमुद्धवं प्राह केशव: ॥४५॥
तत्र तेषु-आत्म-पक्षेषु-
there, them, of own clan,
अगृह्णत्सु विजिगीषया
holding on the desire to win (Jaraasandha)
वाच: पेशै: स्मयन्
by words' sweet smilingly
भृत्यम्-उद्धवम् प्राह केशव:
to devotee Uddhava spoke Keshava
As the people of His own clan assembled there, were eager to conquer Jaraasandha, Keshava smilingly, in sweet words, spoke to His devotee Uddhava.
श्री भगवान्-उवाच -
The Lord said -
त्वं हि न: परमं चक्षु: सुहृन्मन्त्रार्थतत्त्ववित् ।
तथात्र ब्रूह्यनुष्ठेयं श्रद्दधम: करवाम तत् ॥४६॥
त्वम् हि न: परमम् चक्षु:
you, indeed are our Supreme eye,
सुहृत्-मन्त्रार्थ-
friend, of the maxim the meaning
तत्त्व-वित्
and secret knower,
तथा-अत्र ब्रूहि-अनुष्ठेयम्
and so, here, do say should be done what,
श्रद्दधम: करवाम तत्
with faith will do that
Indeed, you are our Supreme eye. You are friend, knower of the meaning and the secret of the maxim. So, do say what should be done here. With full faith we will do that.
इत्युपामन्त्रितो भर्त्रा सर्वज्ञेनापि मुग्धवत् ।
निदेशं शिरसाऽऽधाय उद्धव: प्रत्यभाषत ॥४७॥
इति-उपामन्त्रित: भर्त्रा
thus consulted by The Master,
सर्वज्ञेन-अपि मुग्धवत्
by The All-knower, like an ignorant,
निदेशम् शिरसा-आधाय
the order on the head accepting
उद्धव: प्रत्यभाषत
Uddhava replied
Uddhava, who was thus consulted by The Master, The All-knower, playing ignorant, accepted the order on head, and replied,……
इति श्रीमद्भागवते महापुराणे पारमहंस्यां संहितायां
दशमस्कन्धे उत्तरार्धे भगवद्ध्यानविचारे
सप्ततितम: अध्याय: ॥७०॥
