राजा-उवाच -
The King said -
ततो महाभागवत उद्धवे निर्गते वनम् ।
द्वारवत्यां किमकरोद् भगवान् भूतभावन: ॥१॥
तत: महाभागवत
then, on the great devotee
उद्धवे निर्गते वनम्
Uddhava having gone to the forest,
द्वारवत्याम् किम्-अकरोत्
in Dwaarakaa what did
भगवान् भूत-भावन:
The Lord of all beings, The Father do
After the great devotee Uddhava had gone to the forest, what did The Lord, The Father of all beings, do, in Dwaarakaa ?
ब्रह्मशापोपसंसृष्टे स्वकुले यादवर्षभ: ।
प्रेयसीं सर्वनेत्राणां तनुं स कथमत्यजत् ॥२॥
ब्रह्म-शाप-उपसंसृष्टे
by Braahmana's curse wiped
स्व-कुले यादव-ऋषभ:
in own race, of Yaadava race the foremost,
प्रेयसीम् सर्व-नेत्राणाम् तनुम्
utmost dear to all eyes, the body,
स: कथम्-अत्यजत्
He how cast off
After his own race was wiped off by the curse of the Braahmanas, The foremost of the Yadu race, Krishna, how did He cast of His body which was utmost dear to all eyes.
प्रत्याक्रष्टुं नयनमबला यत्र लग्नं न शेकु: ।
कर्णाविष्टं न सरति ततो यत् सतामात्मलग्नम् ।
यच्छ्रीर्वाचां जनयति रति किं नु मानं कवीनां
दृष्ट्वा जिष्णोर्युधि रथगतं यच्च तत्साम्यमीयु: ॥३॥
प्रत्याक्रष्टुम् नयनम्-अबला
to withdraw the eyes the helpless ladies
यत्र लग्नम् न शेकु:
where were placed, were not able
कर्ण-आविष्टम् न सरति तत:
in the ears entered, does not move from there,
यत् सताम्-आत्म-लग्नम्
which of the nobles mind clung
यत्-श्री:-वाचाम् जनयति रति
which, in beauty of speech generates love,
किम् नु मानम् कवीनाम्
what of the honour of the poets
दृष्ट्वा जिष्णो:-युधि रथ-गतम्
seeing on Arjuna’s, in the battle, chariot sitting,
यत्-च तत्-साम्यम्-ईयु:
that and of His similarity attained
The body, of Shree Krishna, on which, once placed, the eyes, helpless ladies were unable to withdraw. Hearing of the glory of which, the ears of the people did not move from there. The glories of which clung to the minds of the noble. The body which generates love and beauty in the speech and the poets get the honour thereby. The body sitting on Arjuna's chariot, in the battle, seeing which the warriors attained similarity to.
ऋषि:-उवाच -
The sage (Shree Shuka) said -
दिवि भुव्यन्तरिक्षे च महोत्पातान् समुत्थितान् ।
दृष्ट्वाऽऽसीनान् सुधर्मायां कृष्ण: प्राह यदूनिदम् ॥४॥
दिवि भुवि-अन्तरिक्षे च
in heaven, on earth, in sky and
महा-उत्पातान् समुत्थितान्
great evils arising
दृष्ट्वा-आसीनान् सुधर्मायाम्
seeing, seated in Sudharmaa
कृष्ण: प्राह यदून्-इदम्
Krishna said to the Yadus this
Krishna, seeing great evil portents arising in the heaven, on earth and in the sky, said to the Yadus seated in the assembly hall Sudharmaa.
एते घोरा महोत्पाता द्वार्वत्यां यमकेतव: ।
मुहुर्त्तमपि न स्थेयमत्र नो यदुपुङ्गवा: ॥५॥
एते घोरा: महा-उत्पाता:
these intense grave portents
द्वार्वत्याम् यम-केतव:
in Dwaarakaa, are Yama's flags,
मुहुर्त्तम्-अपि न स्थेयम्-अत्र
for an hour even not should stay here
न: यदु-पुङ्गवा:
by us, O Yadu leaders!
'O Leaders of the Yadus! There are intensely grave portents appearing here in Dwaarakaa. We should not stay here even for an hour.'
स्त्रियो बालाश्च वृद्धाश्च शङ्खोद्धारं व्रजन्त्वित: ।
वयं प्रभासं यास्यामो यत्र प्रत्यक् सरस्वती ॥६॥
स्त्रिय: बाला:-च वृद्धा:-च
women, children, aged people and
शङ्खोद्धारम् व्रजन्तु-इत:
Shankhoddhaara may proceed to from here,
वयम् प्रभासम् यास्याम:
we to Prabhaasa will go
यत्र प्रत्यक् सरस्वती
where to the west flows Saraswati
Women, children, and aged people may proceed from here to Shankhoddhaara. We will go to Prabhaasa, where river Saraswati flows towards the west.
तत्राभिषिच्य शुचय उपोष्य सुसमाहिता: ।
देवता: पूजयिष्याम: स्नपनालेपनार्हणै: ॥७॥
तत्र-अभिषिच्य शुचय:
there, bathing, purified,
उपोष्य सुसमाहिता:
fasting, with concentration,
देवता: पूजयिष्याम:
the gods, we will worship
स्नपन-आलेपन-अर्हणै:
with bath, smearing of paste, and articles
There, having bathed and purified, we will observe fast, and with concentration worship the gods, with bath, smearing of sandal paste and other articles of worship.
ब्राह्मणांस्तु महाभागान् कृतस्वस्त्ययना वयम् ।
गोभूहिरण्यवासोभिर्गजाश्वरथवेश्मभि: ॥८॥
ब्राह्मणान्-तु महाभागान्
Braahmanas indeed, highly blessed,
कृत-स्वस्ति-अयना: वयम्
performing with benedictory Mantras, we
गो-भू-हिरण्य-वासोभि:-
by cows, land, gold, clothes,
गज-अश्व-रथ-वेश्मभि:
elephants, horses, chariots and houses
For the highly blessed Braahmanas, we will chant benedictory Mantras and gift cows, land, gold, clothes, elephants, horses, chariots and houses.
विधिरेष ह्यरिष्टघ्नो मङ्गलायनमुत्तमम् ।
देवद्विजगवां पूजा भूतेषु परमो भव: ॥९॥
विधि:-एष हि-अरिष्ट-घ्न:
method this, indeed is evil dispersing
मङ्गल-अयनम्-उत्तमम्
of well being the abode best
देव-द्विज-गवाम् पूजा
of gods', Braahmanas' cows' worship
भूतेषु परम: भव:
for beings is highest of life
Indeed, this method is evil dispersing, and is the best abode of well being. The worship of gods, Braahmanas and cows is the highest gain in the lives of human beings.
इति सर्वे समाकर्ण्य यदुवृद्धा मधुद्विष: ।
तथेति नौभिरुत्तीर्य प्रभासं प्रययू रथै: ॥१०॥
इति सर्वे समाकर्ण्य
this all having heard,
यदु-वृद्धा: मधुद्विष:
Yadu adults, of Shree Krishna (Madhu's enemy)
तथा-इति नौभि:-उत्तीर्य
'so be it' thus, by boats crossing
प्रभासम् प्रययु: रथै:
to Prabhaasa went in chariots
The elders of the Yadus, having heard this, as told by Shree Krishna, said, 'so be it', and crossing over the sea in boats, proceeded to Prabhaasa in chariots.
तस्मिन् भगवताऽऽदिष्टं यदुदेवेन यादवा: ।
चक्रु: परमया भक्त्या सर्वश्रेयोपवृंहितम् ॥११॥
तस्मिन् भगवता-आदिष्टम्
in that, by The Lord directed
यदु-देवेन यादवा:
by The Lord of the Yadus, the Yaadavaas
चक्रु: परमया भक्त्या
performed with most devotion
सर्व-श्रेय-उपवृंहितम्
all auspiciousness bringing rituals
In that place, they, the Yaadava elders, as directed by The Lord of the Yaadavaas, Krishna, performed with utmost devotion, all those rituals which usher in auspiciousness.
ततस्तस्मिन् महापानं पपुर्मैरेयकं मधु ।
दिष्टविभ्रंशितधियो यद्द्रवैर्भ्रश्यते मति: ॥१२॥
तत:-तस्मिन् महा-पानम्
then, there, the great drink
पपु:-मैरेयकम् मधु:
drank, Maireyaka, intoxicating drink
दिष्ट-विभ्रंशित-धिय:
by destiny, shattered the intellect
यत्-द्रवै:-भ्रश्यते मति:
by which drink, is distorted the thinking
Then, there, by the act of destiny, they drank the highly intoxicating and delicious drink known as Maireyaka, which shatters the intellect and by which their thinking was distorted.
महापानाभिमत्तानां वीराणां दृप्तचेतसाम्।
कृष्णमायाविमूढानां सङ्घर्ष: सुमहानभूत् ॥१३॥
महा-पान-अभिमत्तानाम्
by the strong drink intoxicated,
वीराणाम् दृप्त-चेतसाम्
the heroes, ego inflated minds'
कृष्ण-माया-विमूढानाम्
by Krishna's Maayaa deluded,
सङ्घर्ष: सुमहान्-अभूत्
clash bitter started
The heroes, with their inflated minds, were intoxicated by the strong drink and were deluded by Krishna's Maayaa, consequently, a bitter clash started among them.
युयुधु: क्रोधसंरब्धा वेलायामाततायिन: ।
धनुर्भिरसिभिर्भल्लैर्गदाभिस्तोमरर्ष्टिभि: ॥१४॥
युयुधु: क्रोध-संरब्धा:
fought anger overcome with
वेलायाम्-आततायिन:
on the sea shore, the contenders
धनुर्भि:-असिभि:-भल्लै:-
with bows, swords, lances,
गदाभि:-तोमर-ऋष्टिभि:
maces, bludgeons and spears
The contenders, overcome with anger, fought with each other, on the sea shore, with bows, swords, lances, maces, bludgeons and spears.
पतत्पताकै रथ कुञ्जरादिभि: खरोष्ट्रगोभिर्महिषैर्नरैरपि ।
मिथ: समेत्याश्वतरै: सुदुर्मदा न्यहञ्छरैर्दद्भिरिव द्विपा वने ॥१५॥
पतत्-पताकै: रथ कुञ्जर-
with flurrying flags, the chariots, elephants
आदिभि: खर-उष्ट्र-गोभि:-
and others, donkeys, camels, bulls,
महिषै:-नरै:-अपि
buffaloes, men even
मिथ: समेत्य-अश्वतरै:
one another attacking on horse backs
सुदुर्मदा: न्यहत्-शरै:-
uncontrollable, killed with arrows
दद्भि:-इव द्विपा: वने
with tusks like elephants in the forest
With chariots with flurrying flags, elephants, donkeys, camels, bulls, buffaloes, even men, attacked one another on horse backs and killed with arrows like elephants with the tusks in the forest.
प्रद्युम्नसाम्बौ युधि रूढमत्सरावक्रूरभोजावनिरुद्धसात्यकी ।
सुभद्रसङ्ग्रामजितौ सुदारुणौ गदौ सुमित्रासुरथौ समीयतु: ॥१६॥
प्रद्युम्न-साम्बौ युधि
Pradyumna, Saamba, in the battle
रूढ-मत्सरौ-अक्रूर-भोजौ-
with increased discord, Akroora and Bhoja,
अनिरुद्ध-सात्यकी
Aniruddha and Saatyaki
सुभद्र-सङ्ग्रामजितौ
Subhadra and Sangraamajit,
सुदारुणौ गदौ
the fierce Gada two,
सुमित्र-असुरथौ समीयतु:
Sumitra and Asuratha closed on each other
In the battle, with increased discord, Pradyumna and Saamba, Akroora and Bhoja, Aniruddha and Saatyaki, Subhadra and Sangraamajit, the fierce two Gada's, closed on each other.
अन्ये च ये ये निशठोल्मुकादय: सहस्रजिच्छतजिद्भानुमुख्या: ।
अन्योन्यमासाद्य मदान्धकारिता जघ्नुर्मुकुन्देन विमोहिता भृशम् ॥१७॥
अन्ये च ये ये
others and all those,
निशठ-उल्मुक-आदय:
Nishatha, Ulmuka, and others,
सहस्रजित्-शतजित्-भानु-मुख्या:
Sahasrajit, Shatajit, Bhaanu, the leaders,
अन्य-अन्यम्-आसाद्य
one another, approaching
मद-अन्ध-कारिता:-
by liquor blinded, became,
जघ्नु:-मुकुन्देन विमोहिता भृशम्
killed by Mukunda's infatuated much
And all those others, Nishatha, Ulmuka, with leaders Sahasrajit, Shatajit, Bhaanu, approached one another, and killed one another, blinded as they were with liquor and much infatuated by Mukunda, Krishna.
दाशार्हवृष्ण्यन्धकभोजसात्वता मध्वर्बुदा माथुरशूरसेना: ।
विसर्जना: कुकुरा: कुन्तयश्च मिथस्ततस्तेऽथ विसृज्य सौहृदम् ॥१८॥
दाशार्ह-वृष्णि-अन्धक-भोज-सात्वता
Dashaarhas, Vrishni, Andhakas, Bhojas, Saatvatas,
मधु-अर्बुदा माथुर-शूरसेना:
Madhus, Arbudas, Maathuras, Shoorasenas,
विसर्जना: कुकुरा: कुन्तय:-च
Visarjanas, Kukuras, Kunti's sons, and
मिथ:तत:तत:-ते-अथ
mutually here and there they then,
विसृज्य सौहृदम्
abandoning friendliness
Then, they, the Dashaarhas, Vrishni, Andhakas, Bhojas, Saatvatas, Madhus, Arbudas, Maathuras, Shoorasenas, Visarjanas, Kukuras, and Kunti's sons, abandoning all friendliness, fought here and there.
पुत्रा अयुध्यन् पितृभिर्भ्रातृभिश्च स्वस्त्रीयदौहित्रपितृव्यमातुलै: ।
मित्राणि मित्रै: सुहृद: सुहृद्भिर्ज्ञातींस्त्वहन् ज्ञातय एव मूढा: ॥१९॥
पुत्रा: अयुध्यन् पितृभि:-
sons fought with fathers,
भ्रातृभि:-च स्वस्त्रीय-
with the brothers and grand sons,
दौहित्र-पितृव्य-मातुलै:
daughters' sons with uncles, maternal uncles,
मित्राणि मित्रै: सुहृद: सुहृद्भि:-
friends with friends, the dears with dear ones,
ज्ञातीन्-तु-अहन्-ज्ञातय: एव मूढा:
the kinsmen indeed killed kinsmen, only bedumbed
They, the bedumbed, sons fought with fathers, the brothers with the grand sons, daughters' sons with uncles and maternal uncles, friends with friends, the dear ones with dear ones, the kinsmen indeed killed the kinsmen.
शरेषु क्षीयमाणेषु भज्यमानेषु धन्वसु ।
शस्त्रेषु क्षीयमाणेषु मुष्टिभिर्जहुरेरका: ॥२०॥
शरेषु क्षीयमाणेषु
on the arrows being exhausted,
भज्यमानेषु धन्वसु
on being broken the bows,
शस्त्रेषु क्षीयमाणेषु
on weapons being exhausted,
मुष्टिभि:-जहु:-एरका:
with fists hit, (with) Eraka (grass)
When the arrows got exhausted, when the bows were broken, when the weapons also got exhausted, they hit with fists holding the Eraka grass.
ता वज्रकल्पा ह्यभवन् परिघा मुष्टिना भृता: ।
जघ्नुर्द्विषस्तै: कृष्णेन वार्यमाणास्तु तं च ते ॥२१॥
ता: वज्रकल्पा: हि-अभवन्
they (the grass) clubs like only became
परिघा मुष्टिना भृता:
adamants in the fists held
जघ्नु:-द्विष:-ते कृष्णेन
hit the enemies, they, by Krishna
वार्यमाणा:-तु तं च ते
deterred though, Him also, they
The grass, held in the fists became like adamant clubs, with which they hit their enemies, even though deterred by Krishna, rather, they hit Him also,…..
प्रत्यनीकं मन्यमाना बलभद्रं च मोहिता: ।
हन्तुं कृतधियो राजन्नापन्ना आततायिन: ॥२२॥
प्रत्यनीकम् मन्यमाना:
enemy considering
बलभद्रम् च मोहिता:
Balaraama and, the deluded,
हन्तुम् कृत-धिय: राजन्-
to kill resolved minded, O King!
आपन्ना: आततायिन:
rushed the fighters,
O King! They, the deluded fighters, considered Him and Balaraama also to be enemies and with a resolved mind to kill them, rushed towards them.
अथ तावपि सङ्क्रुद्धावुद्यम्य कुरुनन्दन ।
एरकामुष्टिपरिघौ चरन्तौ जघ्नतुर्युधि ॥२3॥
अथ तौ-अपि सङ्क्रुद्धौ-
then, they both also, enraged,
उद्यम्य कुरुनन्दन
plucking out, O Kurus' delight!
एरका-मुष्टि-परिघौ
the Eraka, fistfuls clubs,
चरन्तौ जघ्नतु:-युधि
moving, struck in the battle
O Delight of the Kurus! They both were also enraged, and plucking up fistfuls of Eraka grass, which became club like, went striking around in the battle field.
ब्रह्मशापोपसृष्टानां कृष्णमायावृतात्मनाम् ।
स्पर्धाक्रोध: क्षयं निन्ये वैणवोऽग्निर्यथा वनम् ॥२४॥
ब्रह्म-शाप:-उपसृष्टानाम्
by Braahmana's curse ignited,
कृष्ण-माया-आवृत-आत्मनाम्
by Krishna's Maayaa covered minds
स्पर्धा-क्रोध: क्षयम् निन्ये
jealousy and anger to destruction took
वैणव:-अग्नि:-यथा वनम्
bamboo fire, like the forest
Ignited by the curse of the Braahmanas, and with their judgement obscured by Krishna's Maayaa, they took themselves to destruction, fuelled by their rivalry caused anger, like the fire caused by the bamboos burns down the forest.
एवं नष्टेषु सर्वेषु कुलेषु स्वेषु केशव: ।
अवतारितो भुवो भार इति मेनेऽवशेषित: ॥२५॥
एवम् नष्टेषु सर्वेषु
in this manner, on having been destroyed all
कुलेषु स्वेषु केशव:
clans of Himself, Keshava,
अवतारित: भुव: भार
cleared earth's burden,
इति मेने-अवशेषित:
this concluded, the remaining
In this manner, when all of His own people and the clans had been destroyed, 'the remaining burden of the earth is removed' thus concluded, Keshava.
राम: समुद्रवेलायां योगमास्थाय पौरुषम् ।
तत्याज लोकं मानुष्यं संयोज्यात्मानमात्मनि ॥२६॥
राम: समुद्र-वेलायाम्
Balaraama, on the sea shore,
योगम्-आस्थाय पौरुषम्
in Yoga concentrating on the (Supreme) Purusha,
तत्याज लोकम् मानुष्यम्
cast off the world mortal
संयोज्य-आत्मानम्-आत्मनि
fixing Himself in The Supreme Self
On the sea shore, Balaraama sat in Yoga, concentrating on the Supreme Purusha, fixing Himself in The Supreme Self, cast off the human semblance.
रामनिर्याणमालोक्य भगवान् देवकीसुत: ।
निषसाद धरोपस्थे तूष्णीमासाद्य पिप्पलम् ॥२७॥
राम-निर्याणम्-आलोक्य
Balaraama's ascending seeing,
भगवान् देवकी-सुत:
The Lord, Devaki's son,
निषसाद धरा-उपस्थे
sat on the ground surface,
तूष्णीम्-आसाद्य पिप्पलम्
quietly, leaning on the Peepal tree
The Lord, Devaki's son, Shree Krishna, seeing the ascent of Balaraama, sat on the surface of the ground leaning against the Peepal tree.
बिभ्रच्चतुर्भुजं रूपं भ्राजिष्णु प्रभया स्वया ।
दिशो वितिमिरा: कुर्वन् विधूम इव पावक: ॥२८॥
बिभ्रत्-चतुर्भुजम् रूपम्
revealing the four armed form
भ्राजिष्णु प्रभया स्वया
resplendent in His own lustre,
दिश: वितिमिरा कुर्वन्
the quarters without darkness rendering,
विधूम इव पावक:
smoke-less like fire
Revealing His four-armed form, resplendent in His own lustre, He rendered the quarters without darkness, like fire without smoke.
श्रीवत्साङ्कं घनश्यामं तप्तहाटकवर्चसम् ।
कौशेयाम्बरयुग्मेन परिवीतं सुमङ्गलम् ॥२९॥
श्रीवत्स-अङ्कम् घन-श्यामम्
ShreeVats mark, cloud like dark,
तप्त-हाटक-वर्चसम्
molten gold like shine,
कौशेय-अम्बर-युग्मेन
yellow silk cloth two,
परिवीतम् सुमङ्गलम्
covered with, most auspicious
His most auspicious form had the ShreeVats mark, the complexion was cloud like dark, which shone like molten gold, and was wrapped in two pieces of yellow silk.
सुन्दरस्मितवक्त्राब्जं नीलकुन्तलमण्डितम् ।
पुण्डरीकाभिरामाक्षं स्फुरन्मकरकुण्डलम् ॥३०॥
सुन्दर-स्मित-वक्त्र-अब्जम्
lovely smiling face lotus,
नील-कुन्तल-मण्डितम्
blue curls adorning,
पुण्डरीक-अभिराम-अक्षम्
lotus like beautiful eyes,
स्फुरन्-मकर-कुण्डलम्
dangling alligator shaped ear-rings
His form had lovely lotus like smiling face, blue curls adorned it, with beautiful lotus like eyes, and alligator shaped ear-rings dangling.
कटिसूत्रब्रह्मसूत्रकिरीटकटकाङ्गदै: ।
हारनूपुरमुद्राभि: कौस्तुभेन विराजितम् ॥३१॥
कटिसूत्र-ब्रह्मसूत्र-
(it had) a girdle, the sacred thread,
किरीट-कटक-अङ्गदै:
diadem, bracelets, armlets,
हार-नूपुर-मुद्राभि:
pearl strings, anklets, rings,
कौस्तुभेन विराजितम्
and Kaustubha adorning
It had a girdle, the sacred thread, a diadem, bracelets, armlets, pearl strings, anklets, rings, and Kaustubha gems adorning it.
वनमालापरीताङ्गं मूर्तिमद्भिर्निजायुधै: ।
कृत्वोरौ दक्षिणे पादमासीनं पङ्कजारुणम् ॥३२॥
वन-माला-परीत-अङ्गम्
sylvan flower garland, encircling the limbs
मूर्तिमद्भि:-निज-आयुधै:
in living form by own weapons (waited upon)
कृत्वा-उरौ दक्षिणे
placing on thigh right
पादम्-आसीन पङ्कज-अरुणम्
the foot, sitting, lotus red
His form was encircled by sylvan flower garland, as He was waited upon by His weapons in living form, He sat placing on His right thigh the left foot red as a lotus.
मुसलावशेषाय:खण्डकृतेषुर्लुब्धको जरा ।
मृगास्याकारं तच्चरणं विव्याध मृगशङ्कया ॥३३॥
मुसल-अवशेष-अय:-खण्ड
from pestle left over iron piece,
कृत-इषु:-लब्धक: जरा
made arrow, the hunter Jaraa,
मृग-आस्य-आकारम् तत्-चरणम्
deer face shaped, that foot,
विव्याध मृग-शङ्कया
pierced deer mistaking
A hunter, named Jaraa, had made an arrow with the left over iron piece from the pestle. He mistaking that foot to be a deer, pierced it with that arrow.
चतुर्भुजं तं पुरुषं दृष्ट्वा स कृतकिल्बिष: ।
भीत: पपात शिरसा पादयोरसुरद्विष: ॥३४॥
चतुर्भुजम् तम् पुरुषम् दृष्ट्वा
four armed That form on seeing,
स: कृत-किल्बिष:
he, 'have done a great sin',
भीत: पपात शिरसा
frightened, fell with head,
पादयो:-असुरद्विष:
on the feet, of The Enemy of demons
Then, seeing the four armed form, he said, 'A great sin has been done', and fell on the feet, with his head touching them, of The Enemy of the Asuras, Shree Krishna.
अजानता कृतमिदं पापेन मधुसूदन ।
क्षन्तुमर्हसि पापस्य उत्तमश्लोक मेऽनघ ॥३५॥
अजानता कृतम्-इदम्
unknowingly, is done this
पापेन मधुसूदन
by the sinful, O Madhusoodana!
क्षन्तुम्-अर्हसि पापस्य
to pardon are capable, of the sinful
उत्तमश्लोक मे-अनघ
O Well renowned! me, O Sinless!
O Madhusoodana! This is done by me the sinful unknowingly. O Well renowned sinless Lord! You are capable of pardoning me of this sin.
यस्यानुस्मरणं नृणामज्ञानध्वान्तनाशनम् ।
वदन्ति तस्य ते विष्णो मयाऽसाधु कृतं प्रभो ॥३६॥
यस्य-अनुस्मरणम् नृणाम्-
whose remembrance, of the people,
अज्ञान-ध्वान्त-नाशनम्
ignorance darkness thwarting is
वदन्ति तस्य ते विष्णो
say, of That You, O Vishnu!
मया-असाधु कृतम् प्रभो
by me offence committed O Lord!
O Lord! You, Whose remembrance, they say, is capable of removing the ignorance caused darkness of the human beings, of That You, O Vishnu! Offence has been committed, by me.
तन्माऽऽशु जहि वैकुण्ठ पाप्मानं मृगलुब्धकम् ।
यथा पुनरहं त्वेवं न कुर्यां सदतिक्रमम् ॥३७॥
तत्-मा-आशु जहि वैकुण्ठ
that me, soon kill, O Lord of Vaikuntha!
पाप्मानम् मृग-लुब्धकम्
the sinful deer hunter,
यथा पुन:-अहम् तु-एवम्
so that again I indeed in this manner,
न कुर्यम् सत्-अतिक्रमम्
do not commit, of the noble, offence
O Lord of Vaikuntha! Kill me soon, the hunter of the deers, so that I may again not commit such offence of the noble ones.
यस्यात्मयोगरचितं न विदुर्विरिञ्चो रुद्रादयोऽस्य तनया: पतयो गिरां ये ।
त्वन्मायया पिहितदृष्टय एतदञ्ज: किं तस्य ते वयमसद्गतयो गृणीम: ॥३८॥
यस्य-आत्म-योग-रचितम्
of Whose by own Self Yoga produced
न विदु:-विरिञ्च: रुद्र-आदय:-
do not know, Brahmaa, Rudra and others,
अस्य तनया: पतय: गिराम् ये
His sons, the masters of Vedas, those,
त्वत्-मायया पिहित-दृष्टय:
by Your Maayaa covered sights
एतत्-अञ्ज: किम् तस्य ते
of this situation, what of them they,
वयम्-असत्-गतय: गृणीम:
we, of impious births, will gather
By Whose own Self Yoga, produced Maayaa, covered sights, Brahmaa, His sons, Rudra, even the masters of Veda, and others, they, do not understand the situation, of the full destruction of the Yadus, what of us the impious born's, how will we know?
श्री भगवान्-उवाच -
The Lord said -
मा भैर्जरे त्वमुतिष्ठ काम एष कृतो हि मे ।
याहि त्वं मदनुज्ञात: स्वर्गं सुकृतिनां पदम् ॥३९॥
मा भै:-जरे त्वम्-उतिष्ठ
do not be afraid, O Jaraa, you, get up,
काम: एष: कृत: हि मे
desired this is done indeed of Me,
याहि त्वम् मत्-अनुज्ञात:
go you by My permission,
स्वर्गम् सुकृतिनाम् पदम्
to heaven, of the virtuous, the abode
'O Jaraa! Do not be afraid, get up. You have done this as desired by Me, indeed. By My permission go to heaven, the abode of the virtuous.
इत्यादिष्टो भगवता कृष्णेनेच्छाशरीरिणा ।
त्रि: परिक्रम्य तं नत्वा विमानेन दिवं ययौ ॥४०॥
इति-आदिष्ट: भगवता
thus instructed by The Lord,
कृष्णेन-इच्छा-शरीरिणा
Krishna, by will taking form,
त्रि: परिक्रम्य तम् नत्वा
thrice circumambulating, Him bowing,
विमानेन दिवम् ययौ
by the Ariel car to heaven ascended
Thus instructed by The Lord Krishna, Who takes form at will, he circumbulated Him thrice, and bowing to Him, ascended to heaven in an Ariel car.
दारुक: कृष्णपदवीमन्विच्छन्नधिगम्य ताम् ।
वायुं तुलसिकामोदमाघ्रायाभिमुखं ययौ ॥४१॥
दारुक: कृष्ण-पदवीम्-
Daaruka, Krishna's place
अन्विच्छन्-अधिगम्य ताम्
looking for, finding, that,
वायुम् तुलसिका-मोदम्-
the air with Tulasi charged,
आघ्राय-अभिमुखम् ययौ
smelling, in front went
Daaruka, His charioteer, was looking for His whereabouts, finding Him by the smell of the air charged by Tulasi, he went in front of Him.
तं तत्र तिग्मद्युभिरायुधैर्वृतं ह्यश्वत्थमूले कृतकेतनं पतिम् ।
स्नेहप्लुतात्मा निपपात पादयो रथादवप्लुत्य सबाष्पलोचन: ॥४२॥
तम् तत्र तिग्म-द्युभि:-आयुधै:-वृतम्
Him, there, sharp edged bright weapons surrounded with,
हि-अश्वत्थ-मूले
indeed, at the Peepal tree's root,
कृत-केतनम् पतिम्
taking seat, The Master,
स्नेह-प्लुत-आत्मा निपपात पादयो:
with affection flowing heart, fell on the feet,
रथात्-अवप्लुत्य स-बाष्प-लोचन:
from the chariot jumping down, with moist eyes
There, he saw Him, his Master, sitting at the base of the Peepal tree, waited upon by the sharp edged brilliantly shining weapons, in human form. He jumped from the chariot, and fell prostrate at His feet with his heart overflowing with affection, and his eyes full of tears.
दिशो न जाने न लभे च शान्तिं यथा निशायामुडुपे प्रनष्टे ॥४३॥
अपश्यतस्त्वच्चरणाम्बुजं प्रभो दृष्टि: प्रणष्टा तमसि प्रविष्टा ।
प्रविष्टा ।
अपश्यत:-त्वत्-चरण-अम्बुजम् प्रभो
on seeing, Your feet lotus, O Lord!
दृष्टि: प्रणष्टा तमसि प्रविष्टा
vision is lost, in darkness has entered,
दिश: न जाने न लभे च शान्तिम्
quarters do not know, do not find peace,
यथा निशायाम्-उडुपे प्रनष्टे
like in the night, boat is lost
O Lord! On seeing Your lotus feet, I have lost my vision, which has entered into darkness. I do not know the quarters, and find no peace, like a boat lost in the night.
इति ब्रुवति सूते वै रथो गरुडलाञ्छन: ।
खमुत्पपात राजेन्द्र साश्वध्वज उदीक्षत: ॥४४॥
इति ब्रुवति सूते वै
thus, as spoke the charioteer, indeed,
रथ: गरुड-लाञ्छन:
the chariot with Gaduda emblem
खम्-उत्पपात राजेन्द्र
in the sky flew, O King of kings!
स-अश्व-ध्वज उदीक्षत:
with the horses, flag, as (he) looked on
As the charioteer spoke thus, indeed, the chariot with the emblem of Gaduda, rose to the sky and flew away, along with the horses flags and all, even as he looked on.
तमन्वगच्छन् दिव्यानि विष्णुप्रहरणानि च ।
तेनातिविस्मितात्मानं सूतमाह जनार्दन: ॥४५॥
तम्-अन्वगच्छन् दिव्यानि
that followed the divine
विष्णु-प्रहरणानि च
Vishnu's weapons and
तेन-अति-विस्मित-आत्मानम्
to him, the very much surprised hearted,
सूतम्-आह जनार्दन:
charioteer said, Lord Krishna
Him followed the divine weapons of Vishnu, and to the charioteer, who was much amazed at heart, Lord Krishna said,…..
गच्छ द्वारवतीं सूत ज्ञातीनां निधनं मिथ: ।
सङ्कर्षणस्य निर्याणं बन्धुभ्यो ब्रूहि मद्दशाम् ॥४६॥
गच्छ द्वारवतीम् सूत
go to Dwaarakaa, O Soota!
ज्ञातीनाम् निधनम् मिथ:
of the relatives, death mutual
सङ्कर्षणस्य निर्याणम्
of Balaraama the departure,
बन्धुभ्य: ब्रूहि मत्-दशाम्
to the kinsmen, convey My condition
O Soota! Proceed to Dwaarakaa and convey to the kinsmen's, the death of the relatives, by mutual killing, the departure of Balaraama to his own realm, and also My condition.
द्वारकायां च न स्थेयं भवद्भिश्च स्वबन्धुभि: ।
मया त्यक्तां यदुपुरीं समुद्र: प्लावयिष्यति ॥४७॥
द्वारकायाम् च न स्थेयम्
in Dwaarakaa and should not stay,
भवद्भि:-च स्व-बन्धुभि:
you all with your relatives,
मया त्यक्ताम् यदुपुरीम्
by Me deserted Yadu puri,
समुद्र: प्लावयिष्यति
the sea will submerge
You, with your relatives should not stay in Dwaarakaa, as, Yadu puri forsaken by Me, will be submerged by the sea.
स्वं स्वं परिग्रहं सर्वे आदाय पितरौ च न: ।
अर्जुनेनाविता: सर्व इन्द्रप्रस्थं गमिष्यथ ॥४८॥
स्वम् स्वम् परिग्रहम् सर्वे
each your own family and possessions all
आदाय पितरौ च न:
taking along, parents and ours,
अर्जुनेन-आविता: सर्व
by Arjuna guarded, all,
इन्द्रप्रस्थम् गमिष्यथ
to Indraprastha go to
All of you, taking along all your family and possessions, and also our parents, guarded by Arjuna, should go to Indraprastha.
त्वं तु मद्धर्ममास्थाय ज्ञाननिष्ठ उपेक्षक: ।
मन्मायारचनामेतां विज्ञायोपशमं व्रज ॥४९॥
त्वम् तु मत्-धर्मम्-आस्थाय
you, of course, My course adhering to
ज्ञान-निष्ठ उपेक्षक:
in knowledge established, indifferent,
मत्-माया-रचनाम्-एताम्
My enchanting potency creation this,
विज्ञाय-उपशमम् व्रज
knowing, peace attain
You, of course, by adhering to My course of conduct, be established in the knowledge of Self, remaining indifferent, and knowing this world to be a creation of Maayaa, My enchanting potency, be peaceful.
इत्युक्तं परिक्रम्य नमस्कृत्य पुन: पुन: ।
तत्पादौ शीर्ष्ण्युपाधाय दुर्मना: प्रययौ पुरीम् ॥५०॥
इति-उक्तम् परिक्रम्य
so told, circumambulating,
नमस्कृत्य पुन: पुन:
folding the hands again and again,
तत्-पादौ शीर्ष्णी-उपाधाय
His feet on head placing
दुर्मना: प्रययौ पुरीम्
disheartened proceeded to the city
So instructed, Daaruka, circumambulated The Lord, folded his hands again and again, then after placing His feet on his own head, proceeded to the city disheartened.
इति श्रीमद्भागवते महापुराणे पारमहंस्यां संहितायां एकादश स्कन्धे त्रिंश: अध्याय: ॥३०॥
Thus ends the thirtieth discourse in Book Eleven of the great and glorious Bhaagavata-Puraana.
