श्री शुक उवाच -
Shree Shuka said -
कुशस्य चातिथिस्तस्मान्निषधस्तत्सुतो नभ: ।

पुण्डरीकोऽथ तत्पुत्र: क्षेमधन्वाभवत्तत: ॥१॥


कुशस्य च-अतिथि:-तस्मात्-
Kusha's and Atithi, from him
निषध:-तत्-सुत: नभ:
Nishadha, his son Nabha
पुण्डरीक:-अथ तत्-पुत्र:
Pundareeka then, his son
क्षेमधन्वा-अभवत्-तत:
Kshemadhanvaa was born from him

Kusha's son was Atithi, from him Nishadha was born, his son was Nabha, then his son was Pundareeka, from him Kshemadhanvaa was born.


देवानीकस्ततोऽनीह: पारियात्रोऽथ तत्सुत: ।

ततो बलस्थलस्तस्माद् वज्रनाभोऽर्कसंभव: ॥२॥


देवानीक:-तत:-अनीह:
Devaaneeka, from him Aneeha
पारियात्र:-अथ तत्-सुत:
Paariyaatra then his son
तत: बलस्थल:-तस्मात्
from him Balasthala, from him
वज्रनाभ:-अर्क-संभव:
Vajranaabha, Sun like

Then Devaaneeka, from him Aneeha, then his son was Paariyaatra, from him Balasthala was born and from him the Sun like Vajranaabha was born.


खगणस्तत्सुतस्तस्माद् विधृतिश्चाभवत् सुत: ।

ततो हिरण्यनाभोऽभूद् योगाचार्यस्तु जैमिने: ॥३॥


खगण:-तत्-सुत:-तस्मात्
Khagana was his son, from him
विधृति:-च-अभवत् सुत:
Vidhriti and was born the son
तत: हिरण्यनाभ:-अभूत्
from him Hiranyanaabha was born
योगाचार्य:-तु जैमिने:
Yoga's teacher, indeed of Jaimini the pupil

Khagana was his son, from him the son Vidhriti was born, from him was born Hiranyanaabha who was a teacher of Yoga and a pupil of Jaimini.


शिष्य: कौसल्य आध्यात्मं याज्ञवल्क्योऽध्यगाद् यत: ।

योगं महोदयमृषिर्हृदयग्रन्थिभेदकम् ॥४॥


शिष्य: कौसल्य: आध्यात्मम्
the pupil from Kosala, the spiritual
याज्ञवल्क्य:-अध्यगात् यत:
Yagyavalkya received from whom
योगम् महोदयम्-ऋषि:-
the yoga of great elevation, the sage
हृदय-ग्रन्थि-भेदकम्
the heart's knot (of ignorance) snapper

Sage Yagyavalkya, the resident of Kosala, took the instructions from whom (Jaimini) of the spiritual study of yoga which is highly elevating and capable of snapping the knot of ignorance of the heart.


पुष्यो हिरण्यनाभस्य ध्रुवसन्धिस्ततोऽभवत् ।

सुदर्शनोऽथाग्निवर्ण: शीघ्रस्तस्य मरु: सुत: ॥५॥


पुष्य: हिरण्यनाभस्य
Pushya was Hiranynanabha's son
ध्रुवसन्धि:-तत:-अभवत्
Dhruvasandhi was born of him
सुदर्शन:-अथ-अग्निवर्ण:
Sudarshana then, Agnivarna,
शीघ्र:-तस्य मरु: सुत:
Sheeghra his, Maru (his) son

Pushya was Hiranynanabha's son, of him Dhruvasandhi was born, then, from him Sudarshana, then from him Agnivarna, his son was Sheeghra, and Maru was his son.


योऽसावास्ते योगसिद्ध: कलापग्राममाश्रित: ।

कलेरन्ते सूर्यवंशं नष्टं भावयिता पुन: ॥६॥


य:-असौ-आस्ते योग-सिद्ध:
who this (Maru) is present, in Yoga adept
कलाप-ग्रामम्-आश्रित:
in Kalaapagraama staying
कले:-अन्ते सूर्यवंशम्
in Kali's end, the Soorya Vansha
नष्टम् भावयिता पुन:
extinct, will revive again

This Maru, adept in Yoga, is present to this day and lives in Kalaapa graama. At the end of Kali, when the Soorya Vansha, solar dynasty, will be extinct, he will revive it.


तस्मात् प्रसुश्रुतस्तस्य सन्धिस्तस्याप्यमर्षण: ।

महस्वांस्तत्सुतस्तस्माद् विश्वसाह्वोऽन्वजायत ॥७॥


तस्मात् प्रसुश्रुत:-तस्य सन्धि:-
from him was Prashruta, his was Sandhi
तस्य-अपि-अमर्षण:
his also Amarshana
महस्वान्-तत्-सुत:-
Mahaswaana his son
तस्मात् विश्वसाह:- अन्वजायत
from him Vishvasaaha, afterwards was born

From him Prashruta was born, his son was Sandhi, and also his son was Amarshana, whose son was Mahaswaana, and afterwards from him was born Vishvasaaha.


तत: प्रसेनजित् तस्मात् तक्षको भविता पुन: ।

ततो बृहद्बलो यस्तु पित्रा ते समरे हत: ॥८॥


तत: प्रसेनजित् तस्मात्
from him Prasenjit, from him
तक्षक: भविता पुन:
Takshaka was born again,
तत: बृहद्बल: य:-तु
from him Brihadbala, who indeed
पित्रा ते समरे हत:
by father your, in battle was killed

Prasenjit was born from him, from him Takshaka was born, again from him Brihadbala was born who was killed indeed by your father in the battle.


एते हीक्ष्वाकुभूपाला अतीता: शृण्वनागतान् ।

बृहद्बलस्य भविता पुत्रो नाम बृहद्रण: ॥९॥


एते हि-इक्ष्वाकु-भूपाला:
these indeed of the Ikshvaaku's kings
अतीता: शृणु-अनागतान्
the past, hear of those who have not come
बृहद्बलस्य भविता
of Brihadbala will be
पुत्र: नाम बृहद्रण:
the son named Brihadrana

These indeed are the past kings of the Ikshvaaku's. Now hear of the kings who have not yet come. Brihadbala's son will be named as Brihadrana.


उरुक्रियस्ततस्तस्य वत्सवृद्धो भविष्यति ।

प्रतिव्योमस्ततो भानुर्दिवाको वाहिनीपति: ॥१०॥


उरुक्रिय:-तत:-तस्य
Urukriya from him, his
वत्सवृद्ध: भविष्यति
Vatsavriddha, then will be born
प्रतिव्योम:-तत: भानु:-
Prativyoma, from him Bhaanu,
दिवाक: वाहिनी-पति:
then Divaaka, the great army general

From him Urukriya will be born, his son will be Vatsavriddha, then will be born Prativyoma, from him Bhaanu, then Divaaka, the great army general.


सहदेवस्ततो वीरो बृहदश्वोऽथ भानुमान् ।

प्रतीकाश्वो भानुमत: सुप्रतीकोऽथ तत्सुत: ॥११॥


सहदेव:-तत: वीर:
Sahadeva from him, the brave
बृहदश्व:-अथ भानुमान्
Brihadashwa then, Bhaanumaan
प्रतीकाश्व: भानुमत:
Prateekaashva of Bhaanumaan
सुप्रतीक:-अथ तत्-सुत:
Suprateeka then his son

From him the brave Sahadeva, then Brihadashwa, then Bhaanumaan, Bhaanumaan son will be Prateekaashva , then his son Suprateeka.


भविता मरुदेवोऽथ सुनक्षत्रोऽथ पुष्कर: ।

तस्यान्तरिक्षस्तत्पुत्र: सुतपास्तदमित्रजित् ॥१२॥


भविता मरुदेव:-अथ
will be Maru deva, then
सुनक्षत्र:-अथ पुष्कर:
Sunakshatra, then, Pushkara,
तस्य-अन्तरिक्ष:-तत्-पुत्र:
his Antariksha, his son
सुतपा:-तत्-अमित्रजित्
Sutapaa, his Amitrajit

Then Maru deva will be born, then Sunakshatra, and then Pushkara, his son will be Antariksha, and his son Sutapaa, and his son Amitrajit.


बृहद्राजस्तु तस्यापि बर्हिस्तस्मात् कृतञ्जय: ।

रणञ्ज्यस्तस्य सुत: सञ्जयो भविता तत: ॥१३॥


बृहद्राज:-तु तस्य-अपि
Brihadraaja indeed his also
बर्हि:-तस्मात् कृतञ्जय:
Barhi from him, Kritanjaya,
रणञ्ज्य:-तस्य सुत:
Rananjaya his son,
सञ्जय: भविता तत:
Sanjaya will be from him

Also his son will be Brihadraaja, from him Barhi, from him Kritanjaya, and his son will be Rananjaya, from him will be born Sanjaya.


तस्माच्छाक्योऽथ शुद्धोदो लाङ्गलस्तत्सुत: स्मृत: ।

तत: प्रसेनजित् तस्मात् क्षुद्रको भविता तत: ॥१४॥


तस्मात्-शाक्य:-अथ शुद्धोद:
from him Shaakya, then Shuddhoda,
लाङ्गल:-तत्-सुत: स्मृत:
Laangala his son will be known
तत: प्रसेनजित् तस्मात्
from him Prasenjit, from him
क्षुद्रक: भविता तत:
Kshudraka will be born then

From him Shaakya, then from him Shuddhoda, his son will be known as Laangala, from him Prasenjit, and from him Kshudraka will be born.


रणको भविता तस्मात् सुरथस्तनयस्तत: ।

सुमित्रो नाम निष्ठान्त एते बार्हद्बलान्वया: ॥१५॥


रणक: भविता तस्मात्
Raakaa will be born of him
सुरथ:-तनय:-तत:
Suratha son his,
सुमित्र: नाम निष्ठान्ते
Sumitra named will be at the end of the race
एते बार्हद्बल-अन्वया:
these will be Brihadbala's progeny

Ranaka will be born of him, his son will be Suratha, his son Sumitra will be the last of the race, all of these will be the progeny of Brihadbala.


इक्ष्वाकूणामयं वंश: सुमित्रान्तो भविष्यति ।

यतस्तं प्राप्य राजानं संस्थां प्राप्स्यति वै कलौ ॥१६॥


इक्ष्वाकूणाम्-अयम् वंश:
of the Ikshvaaku's this race
सुमित्र-अन्त: भविष्यति
Sumitra the end will be
यत:-तम् प्राप्य राजानम्
so that, him having as king
संस्थाम् प्राप्स्यति वै कलौ
termination will attain indeed in Kali

This race of the Ikshvaaku's will end with Sumitra, after having him as the king it will attain termination, in Kali-yuga.


श्रीमद्भागवते महापुराणे पारमहंस्याम् संहितायां नवमे स्कन्धे इक्ष्वाकुवंशवर्णनं नाम द्वादश: अध्याय: ॥१२॥


Thus ends the twelfth discourse, 'A genealogy of (the remaining kings of) Ikshvaaku's line' in Book Nine of the great and glorious Bhaagavata-Puraana.
