श्री शुक उवाच -
Shree Shuka said -
इत्थं सोऽनुगृहीतोऽङ्ग कृष्णेनेक्ष्वाकुनन्दन: ।
तं परिक्रम्य सन्नम्य निश्चक्राम गुहामुखात् ॥१॥
इत्थम् स:-अनुगृहीत: अङ्ग
thus, he, blessed, O Dear!
कृष्णेन-इक्ष्वाकु-नन्दन:
by Krishna, of the Ikshvaaku's the scion,
तम् परिक्रम्य सन्नम्य
Him circumambulating, and bowing well,
निश्चक्राम गुहा-मुखात्
went out of the cave's mouth
O Dear! Thus blessed by Krishna, the scion of the Ikshvaaku's, Muchukunda, circumambulated Him, and bowing to Him well, went out of the mouth of the cave.
स वीक्ष्य क्षुल्लकान् मर्त्यान् पशून् वीरुद्वनस्पतीन् ।
मत्वा कलियुगं प्राप्तं जगाम दिशमुत्तराम् ॥२॥
स: वीक्ष्य क्षुत्-लकान् मर्त्यान्
he, noticing small sized mortals,
पशून् वीरुद्-वनस्पतीन्
animals, creepers, trees,
मत्वा कलि-युगम् प्राप्तम्
understanding Kali Yuga to have arrived
जगाम दिशम्-उत्तराम्
went to the direction north
He noticed that the men, animals, plants and trees reduced in size, and that Kali Yuga had set in, so he proceeded in the northern direction.
तप:श्रद्धायुतो धीरो नि:सङ्गो मुक्तसंशय: ।
समाधाय मन: कृष्णे प्राविशद् गन्धमादनम् ॥३॥
तप:-श्रद्धा-युत: धीर:
in austerities sincerely engaged, self-possessed,
नि:सङ्ग: मुक्त-संशय:
without attachments, bereft of all doubts,
समाधाय मन: कृष्णे
concentrating the mind in Shree Krishna
प्राविशद् गन्धमादनम्
entered (Mount) Gandhamaadana
Sincerely engaged in austerities, self-possessed, without attachments, bereft of all doubts, He concentrated his mind on Shree Krishna, and entered the forest of Mount Gandhamaadana.
बदर्याश्रममासाद्य नरनारायणालयम् ।
सर्वद्वन्द्वसह: शान्तस्तपसाऽऽराधयत्-हरिम् ॥४॥
बदरी-आश्रमम्-आसाद्य
Badrika Ashrama having reached,
नर-नारायण-आलयम्
of Nara and Naaraayana, the abode,
सर्व-द्वन्द्व-सह: शान्त:-
all dualities enduring, peacefully,
तपसा-आराधयत्-हरिम्
by austerities worshipped Shree Hari
Having reached Badrika Aashrama, the abode of Nara and Naaraayana, enduring all dualities, peacefully, he worshipped Shree Hari through austerities.
भगवान् पुनराव्रज्य पुरीं यवनवेष्टिताम् ।
हत्वा म्लेच्छबलं निन्ये तदीयं द्वारकां धनम् ॥५॥
भगवान् पुन:-आव्रज्य
The Lord again coming
पुरीम् यवन-वेष्टिताम्
to the city by the Yavanas' surrounded,
हत्वा म्लेच्छ-बलम् निन्ये
killing the barbarian army, took
तदीयम् द्वारकाम् धनम्
their, to Dwaarakaa, the wealth
The Lord again came back to the city of Mathura which was surrounded by the Yavanas. Killing the army of the barbarians, He took away their wealth to the city of Dwaarakaa.
नीयमाने धने गोभिर्नृभिश्चाच्युतचोदितै: ।
आजगाम जरासन्धस्त्रयोविंशत्यनीकप: ॥६॥
नीयमाने धने गोभि:-
as was being taken the wealth by cows
नृभि:-च-अच्युत-चोदितै:
and men, by The Immortal Lord directed,
आजगाम जरासन्ध:-
came Jaraasandha
त्रयोविंशति-अनीकप:
twenty three army with
As directed by The Immortal Lord, when the wealth was being taken by oxen and men, Jaraasandha came with twenty three armies.
विलोक्य वेगरभसं रिपुसैन्यस्य माधवौ ।
मनुष्यचेष्टामापन्नौ राजन् दुद्रुवतुर्द्रुतम् ॥७॥
विलोक्य वेग-रभसम्
observing the speed fierce
रिपु-सैन्यस्य माधवौ
of the enemy army, Krishna and Balaraama
मनुष्य-चेष्टाम्-आपन्नौ
human behaviour adopting,
राजन् दुद्रुवतु:-द्रुतम्
O King! fled in haste
Shree Krishna and Balaraama, the two Scions of Madhu, observed the fierce rush of the enemy army, and adopting human behaviour, fled in haste.
विहाय वित्तं प्रचुरमभीतौ भीरुभीतवत् ।
पद्भ्यां पद्मपलाशाभ्यां चेरतुर्बहुयोजनम् ॥८॥
विहाय वित्तम् प्रचुरम्-
abandoning the wealth immense,
अभीतौ भीरु-भीत-वत्
fearless, very afraid like,
पद्भ्याम् पद्म-पलाशाभ्याम्
by feet lotus petals like
चेरतु:-बहु-योजनम्
ran for many a miles
They Both abandoned the immense wealth, and though fearless, as though very much afraid, ran for many a miles on Their lotus petal like feet.
पलायमानौ तौ दृष्ट्वा मागध: प्रहसन् बली ।
अन्वधावद् रथानीकैरीशयोरप्रमाणवित् ॥९॥
पलायमानौ तौ दृष्ट्वा
running away them seeing
मागध: प्रहसन् बली
Jaraasandha laughed, the powerful,
अन्वधावद् रथ-अनीकै:-
followed with chariots and army
ईशयो:-अप्रमाणवित्
of The Two Lords greatness unaware of
The powerful Jaraasandha laughed to see Them running away and followed them with chariots and the army, unaware of the greatness of The Two Lords.
प्रद्रुत्य दूरं संश्रान्तौ तुङ्गमारुहतां गिरिम् ।
प्रवर्षणाख्यं भगवान् नित्यदा यत्र वर्षति ॥१०॥
प्रद्रुत्य दूरम् संश्रान्तौ
having run afar, exhausted,
तुङ्गम्-आरुहताम् गिरिम्
the peak climbed of the mountain
प्रवर्षण-आख्यम् भगवान्
Pravarshana named, Indra
नित्यदा यत्र वर्षति
unceasingly where rains
They Both, having run afar, and exhausted, They climbed the peak of the mountain known as Pravarshana, where The lord Indra rains unceasingly.
गिरौ निलीनावाज्ञाय नाधिगम्य पदं नृप ।
ददाह गिरिमेधोभि: समन्तादग्निमुत्सृजन् ॥११॥
गिरौ निलीनौ-आज्ञाय
in the mountain hiding, knowing,
न-अधिगम्य पदम् नृप
not knowing the place, O King!
ददाह गिरिम्-एधोभि:
burnt the mountain by the fire wood,
समन्तात्-अग्निम्-उत्सृजन्
on all sides, fire enkindling
O King! Understanding that They were hiding in the mountain, but not knowing the place, he burnt the mountain with the fire wood, enkindling the fire on all sides.
तत उत्पत्य तरसा दह्यमानतटादुभौ ।
दशैकयोजनोत्तुङ्गान्निपेततुरधो भुवि ॥१२॥
तत: उत्पत्य तरसा
from there jumping quickly
दह्यमान-तटात्-उभौ
from the burning sides, Both
दशैक-योजन-उत्तुङ्गात्-
from eleven Yojanas high,
निपेततु:-अध: भुवि
landed down on the land
Both of Them quickly jumped from the burning sides of the eleven Yojana high peak, and landed down on the land.
अलक्ष्यमाणौ रिपुणा सानुगेन यदूत्तमौ ।
स्वपुरं पुनरायातौ समुद्रपरिखां नृप ॥१३॥
अलक्ष्यमाणौ रिपुणा
unseen by the enemy
स-अनुगेन यदु-उत्तमौ
with the followers, The Scions of the Yadus
स्व-पुरम् पुन:-आयातौ
to own city again came
समुद्र-परिखाम् नृप
by sea moted, O King!
Unseen by the enemy and his followers, The Two Scions of the Yadus came back to Their own city Dwaarakaa, which was moted by the sea.
सोऽपि दग्धाविति मृषा मन्वानो बलकेशवौ ।
बलमाकृष्य सुमहन्मगधान् मागधो ययौ ॥14॥
स:-अपि दग्धौ-इति मृषा
he also, burnt thus falsely
मन्वान: बल-केशवौ
believing Balaraama and Keshava,
बलम्-आकृष्य सुमहत्-
the army withdrawing huge,
मगधान् मागध: ययौ
to Magadha, the Magadha king went
He falsely believing that Balaraama and Keshava were burnt in the fire, the king of the Magadhas', Jaraasandha withdrew his huge army and returned to Magadha.
आनर्त्ताधिपति: श्रीमान् रैवतो रेवतीं सुताम् ।
ब्रह्मणा चोदित: प्रादाद् बलायेति पुरोदितम् ॥१५॥
आनर्त्त-अधिपति: श्रीमान्
Aanarta's king, the glorious
रैवत: रेवतीम् सुताम्
Raivata, Revatee the daughter
ब्रह्मणा चोदित: प्रादाद्
by Brahmaa inspired, gave
बलाय-इति पुरा-उदितम्
to Balaraama, this formerly was said (by me)
Aanarta's glorious king Raivata, inspired by Brahamaa, gave his daughter Revatee to Balaraama in marriage. This I have told you before.
भगवानपि गोविन्द उपयेमे कुरुद्वह ।
वैदर्भीं भीष्मकसुतां श्रियो मात्रां स्वयंवरे ॥१६॥
भगवान्-अपि गोविन्द
The Lord also, Govinda,
उपयेमे कुरुद्वह
married O Pareekshit!
वैदर्भीं भीष्मक-सुताम्
of Vidarbha Bheeshmaka's daughter
श्रिय: मात्राम् स्वयंवरे
Shree incarnate, in Swayamvara
O Pareekshit! The Lord Govinda in Swayamvara, also married Bheeshmaka's daughter of Vidarbha, who was the incarnation of Goddess Shree.
प्रमथ्य तरसा राज्ञ: शाल्वादींश्चैद्यपक्षगान् ।
पश्यतां सर्वलोकानां तार्क्ष्यपुत्र: सुधामिव ॥१७॥
प्रमथ्य तरसा राज्ञ:
crushing quickly the kings
शाल्वादीन्-चैद्य-पक्षगान्
Shaalva and others, of Chaidya king (Shishupaal) allies,
पश्यताम् सर्व-लोकानाम्
as looked on all the people
तार्क्ष्य-पुत्र: सुधाम्-इव
Taarkshy's son nectar like
He quickly crushed the kings Shaalva and the other allies of the Chaidya king Shishupaal, and as all the people looked on, abducted Rukmini, just as the son of Taarkshya, Gaduda, had carried away the jar of nectar.
राजोवाच -
The King said -
भगवान् भीष्मकसुतां रुक्मीणीं रुचिराननाम् ।
राक्षसेन विधानेन उपयेम इति श्रुतम् ॥१८॥
भगवान् भीष्मक-सुताम्
The Lord, Bheeshmaka's daughter
रुक्मीणीम् रुचिर-आननाम्
Rukmini of charming face
राक्षसेन विधानेन
by Raakshasa rites
उपयेमे इति श्रुतम्
married, this is heard
It is heard that The Lord married the charming faced Rukmini, the daughter of Bheeshmaka's, by the Raakshasa rites.
भगवञ्श्रोतुमिच्छामि कृष्णस्यामिततेजस: ।
यथा मागधशाल्वादीन् जित्वा कन्यामुपाहरत् ॥१९॥
भगवन्-श्रोतुम्-इच्छामि
O divine sage! I want to hear
कृष्णस्य-अमित-तेजस:
about Krishna, of unfathomable valour
यथा मागध शाल्वादीन्
how, the king of Magadha, Shaalva and others,
जित्वा कन्याम्-उपाहरत्
winning over, the girl abducted
O divine sage! I want to hear about Krishna, of unfathomable valour, how He won the king of Magadha and Shaalva and the others and abducted the girl.
ब्रह्मन् कृष्णकथा पुण्या माध्वीर्लोकमलापहा: ।
को नु तृप्येत शृण्वान: श्रुतज्ञो नित्यनूतना: ॥२०॥
ब्रह्मन् कृष्ण-कथा पुण्या
O lord! Krishna's stories holy
माध्वी:-लोक-मल-अपहा:
delightful, of the people sins wiping
क: नु तृप्येत शृण्वान:
who indeed is satiated hearing,
श्रुतज्ञ: नित्य-नूतना:
the wise, every time new
O divine Braahmana! Which wise man who hears the holy and delightful stories of Krishna, is satiated, the stories which wipe the sins of the people, and are ever new?
श्री शुक उवाच -
Shree Shuka said -
राजाऽऽसीद् भीष्मको नाम विदर्भाधिपतिर्महान् ।
तस्य पञ्चाभवन् पुत्रा: कन्यैका च वरानना ॥२१॥
राजा-आसीत् भीष्मक: नाम
king was Bheeshmaka's named
विदर्भ-अधिपति:-महान्
of Vidarbha's ruler great
तस्य पञ्च-अभवन् पुत्रा:
his five were born sons
कन्या-एका च वर-आनना
daughter one and charming of face
The king Bheeshmaka's was a great ruler of Vidarbha. He had five sons and one beautiful daughter.
रुक्म्यग्रजो रुक्मरथो रुक्मबाहुरनन्तर: ।
रुक्म्केशो रुक्ममाली रुक्मिण्येषां स्वसा सती ॥२२॥
रुक्मी-अग्रज: रुक्मरथ:
Rukmi was the eldest, Rukmaratha,
रुक्मबाहु:-अनन्तर:
Rukmabaahu, after that,
रुक्मकेश: रुक्ममाली
Rukmakesha, Rukmamaalee,
रुक्मिणी-एषाम् स्वसा सती
Rukmini their sister noble
Rukmi was the eldest, Rukmaratha, Rukmabaahu, after that, Rukmakesha, and Rukmamaalee, and Rukmini was their noble sister.
सोपश्रुत्य मुकुन्दस्य रूपवीर्यगुणश्रिय: ।
गृहागतैर्गीयमानास्तं मेने सदृशं पतिम् ॥२३॥
सा-उपश्रुत्य मुकुन्दस्य
she hearing of Mukunda's
रूप-वीर्य-गुण-श्रिय:
charm, valour, excellences and affluence
गृह-आगतै:-गीयमाना:-
from the home visitors, spoken of
तम् मेने सदृशम् पतिम्
Him regarded as proper husband
She kept hearing of Mukunda's charm, valour, excellences and affluence from the visitors who came to the house, and regarded Him as the proper husband for herself.
तां बुद्धिलक्षणौदार्यरूपशीलगुणाश्रयाम् ।
कृष्णश्च सदृशीं भार्यां समुद्वोढुं मनो दधे ॥२४॥
ताम् बुद्धि-लक्षण-औदार्य-
her, intelligence, characteristics, generosity,
रूप-शील-गुण-आश्रयाम्
beauty, amiability and other virtues upholding
कृष्ण:-च सदृशीम् भार्याम्
Krishna and such a wife
समुद्वोढुम् मन: दधे
to marry, mind made up
Hearing of her, who upheld intelligence, noble characteristics, generosity, beauty, amiability and other virtues, Krishna also made up His mind to marry such a wife.
बन्धूनामिच्छतां दातुं कृष्णाय भगिनीं नृप ।
ततो निवार्य कृष्णद्विड् रुक्मी चैद्यममन्यत ॥२५॥
बन्धूनाम्-इच्छताम् दातुम्
relatives willing to give
कृष्णाय भगिनीम् नृप
to Krishna, the sister, O King!
तत: निवार्य कृष्ण-द्विड्
from that deterring, Krishna's anti
रुक्मी चैद्यम्-अमन्यत
Rukmi, Shishupaala proposed
The relatives were willing to give the sister to Krishna, but Krishna's anti Rukmi, deterred them and proposed Shishupaala.
तदवेत्यासितापाङ्गी वैदर्भी दुर्मना भृशम् ।
विचिन्त्याप्तं द्विजं कञ्चित् कृष्णाय प्राहिणोद् द्रुतम् ॥२६॥
तत्-अवेत्य-असित-आपाङ्गी
that, coming to know, the dark eyed
वैदर्भी दुर्मना भृशम्
Vidarbha princess, disheartened very much
विचिन्त्य-आप्तम् द्विजम्
thinking, a faithful Braahmana
कञ्चित् कृष्णाय प्राहिणोद् द्रुतम्
some, to Krishna sent in a hurry
The dark eyed, beautiful princess of Vidarbha was very much disheartened to know this. Then, thinking, she sent in a hurry, a faithful Braahmana to Krishna.
द्वारकां स समभ्येत्य प्रतीहारै: प्रवेशित: ।
अपश्यदाद्यं पुरुषमासीनं काञ्चनासने ॥२७॥
द्वारकाम् स: समभ्येत्य
to Dwaarakaa, he reaching
प्रतीहारै: प्रवेशित:
by the guards ushered
अपश्यत्-आद्यम् पुरुषम्-
saw The Primary Person
आसीनम् काञ्चन-आसने
seated on a golden throne
When he reached Dwaarakaa, he was ushered in by the guards, and saw The Primary Person, Krishna, seated on a golden throne.
दृष्ट्वा ब्रह्मण्यदेवस्तमवरुह्य निजासनात् ।
उपवेश्यार्हयाञ्चक्रे यथाऽऽत्मानं दिवौकस: ॥२८॥
दृष्ट्वा ब्रह्मण्यदेव:-तम्-
seeing the Braahmanas' Devotee, (Krishna), him,
अवरुह्य निज-आसनात्
alighting from His own seat,
उपवेश्य-अर्हयान्-चक्रे
seating him, hospitality extended
यथा-आत्मानम् दिवौकस:
just as for Himself, the gods did
Seeing him, Krishna, The Devotee of the Braahmanas, got up from His own seat. Having seated him, He extended hospitality to him, as the gods extended to Himself.
तं भुक्तवन्तं विश्रान्तमुपगम्य सतां गति: ।
पाणिनाभिमृशन् पादावव्यग्रस्तमपृच्छत ॥२९॥
तम् भुक्तवन्तम् विश्रान्तम्-
him, having eaten, rested,
उपगम्य सताम् गति:
approaching, of the virtuous, The Goal
पाणिना-अभिमृशन् पादौ-
with the hands massaging (his) two feet,
अव्यग्र:-तम्-अपृच्छत
coolly, him asked
When the Braahmana had eaten and rested, The Goal of the virtuous, Krishna, approached him, massaged his two feet with His hands, and coolly asked him.
कच्चिद् द्विजवरश्रेष्ठ धर्मस्ते वृद्धसम्मत: ।
वर्तते नातिकृच्छ्रेण संतुष्टमनस: सदा ॥३०॥
कच्चिद् द्विजवर-श्रेष्ठ
is it, O Braahmana, the foremost of the jewels
धर्म:-ते वृद्ध-सम्मत:
religious (practices) your, are by the elders approved
वर्तते न-अति-कृच्छ्रेण
are undertaken not by much difficulty
संतुष्ट-मनस: सदा
satisfied minded are always
O foremost among the Braahmana jewels! Is it that your religious practices are approved by the elders, and are undertaken without much trouble, and that you are always contented in the mind.
सन्तुष्टो यर्हि वर्तते ब्राह्मणो येन केनचित् ।
अहीयमान: स्वाद्धर्मात् स ह्यस्याखिलकामधुक् ॥३१॥
सन्तुष्ट: यर्हि वर्तते
contented when remains
ब्राह्मण: येन केनचित्
a Braahmana, by what so ever,
अहीयमान: स्वात्-धर्मात्
not swerving from own sacred duties,
स: हि-अस्य-अखिल-काम-धुक्
that itself is for him, of all desires the yielder
When a Braahmana remains contented with what so ever, and does not swerve from his religious practices, that contentment itself is the yielder of all his desires.
असन्तुष्टोऽसकृल्लोकानाप्नोत्यपि सुरेश्वर: ।
अकिञ्चनोऽपि संतुष्ट: शेते सर्वाङ्गविज्वर: ॥३2॥
असन्तुष्ट:-असकृत्-लोकान्-
the uncontented, again and again to the worlds
आप्नोति-अपि सुरेश्वर:
migrates, even Indra
अकिञ्चन:-अपि संतुष्ट:
of little resources also, contented
शेते सर्व-अङ्ग-विज्वर:
sleeps with all limbs without anxiety
The uncontented, may he be Indra, attains to the worlds again and again, whereas, the one with little resources, and contented, sleeps with all his limbs free of anxiety.
विप्रान् स्वलाभसंतुष्टान् साधून् भूतसुहृत्तमान् ।
निरहङ्कारिण: शान्तान् नमस्ये शिरसासकृत् ॥३३॥
विप्रान् स्व-लाभ-संतुष्टान्
to the Braahmanas, with own earnings contented,
साधून् भूत-सुहृत्तमान्
the virtuous, to the beings friendly,
निरहङ्कारिण: शान्तान्
devoid of pride, peaceful,
नमस्ये शिरसा-असकृत्
I salute with My head bent low, time and again
Time and again, with My head bent low, I salute the Braahmanas who are contented with their earnings, are virtuous, friendly to the created beings, devoid of pride, and are peaceful.
कच्चित् व: कुशलं ब्रह्मन् राजतो यस्य हि प्रजा: ।
सुखं वसन्ति विषये पाल्यमाना: स मे प्रिय: ॥३४॥
कच्चित् व: कुशलम् ब्रह्मन्
is it that you all are secure, O Holy One!
राजत: यस्य हि प्रजा:
by the rule, whose indeed the subjects (you) are
सुखम् वसन्ति विषये
happily live the kingdom
पाल्यमाना: स: मे प्रिय:
protects, he to Me is dear
O Holy One! is it that you all are secure, in the kingdom of the ruler of whom you are the subjects. The king who protects his kingdom is dear to Me.
यतस्त्वमागतो दुर्गं निस्तीर्येह यदिच्छया ।
सर्वं नो ब्रूह्यगुह्यं चेत् किं कार्यं करवाम ते ॥३५॥
यत:-त्वम्-आगत: दुर्गम्
in that, you have come difficult
निस्तीर्य-इह यत्-इच्छया
crossing here, by what desire
सर्वम् न: ब्रूहि-अगुह्यम् चेत्
all that to us say, not a secret if it is
किम् कार्यम् करवाम ते
what service may we do for you
In that, that you have come here crossing the difficult sea, what is the purpose? If it is not a secret, do tell us all. What work of yours may we do?
एवं सम्पृष्टसम्प्रश्नो ब्राह्मण: परमेष्ठिना ।
लीलागृहीतदेहेन तस्मै सर्वमवर्णयत् ॥३६॥
एवम् सम्पृष्ट सम्प्रश्न:
thus asked, the questions,
ब्राह्मण: परमेष्ठिना
the Braahmana, by the Supreme Ruler (Who)
लीला-गृहीत-देहेन
by Maayaa had assumed a body
तस्मै सर्वम्-अवर्णयत्
to Him every thing explained
The Braahmana, who was thus asked the question, explained to The Supreme Ruler, Krishna, Who had assumed a body by Maayaa.
श्रुत्वा गुणान् भुवन सुन्दर शृण्वतां ते निर्विश्य कर्णविवरैर्हरतोऽङ्गतापम् ।
रूपं दृशां दृशिमतामखिलार्थलाभं त्वय्यच्युताविशति चित्तमपत्रपं मे ॥३७॥
रुक्मिणी-उवाच -
Rukmini says -
श्रुत्वा गुणान् भुवन सुन्दर
hearing the excellences, O in three worlds Handsome!
शृण्वताम् ते निर्विश्य कर्ण-विवरै:-
for who hears, Yours, entering through the ear holes,
हरत:-अङ्ग-तापम्
dispels the agony of the body
रूपम् दृशाम् दृशिमताम्-
the charm, for the sight of those with eyes,
अखिल-अर्थ-लाभम्
is of all the blessings a gain
त्वयि-अच्युत-आविशति
in You, O Immortal! is set
चित्तम्-अपत्रपम् मे
mind shameless mine
'O Handsome! In the three worlds, for those who hear Your excellences, entering through the holes of the ears, dispels all the agony of the body. And the sight of Your charm, for those who have eyes, is the total gain of all blessings. In You, O Immortal Lord! my mind, devoid of shame, has set in.'
का त्वा मुकुन्द महती कुलशीलरूपविद्यावयोद्रविणधामभिरात्मतुल्यम् ।
धीरा पतिं कुलवती न वृणीत कन्या काले नृसिंह नरलोकमनोऽभिरामम् ॥३८॥
का त्वा मुकुन्द महती
which, (maiden) You, O Mukunda! in high
कुल-शील-रूप-विद्या-वय:-
race, nobleness, charm, high learning, youthfulness,
द्रविण-धामभि:-आत्म-तुल्यम्
opulence and pedigree, to (Your) Self equal
धीरा पतिम् कुलवती न वृणीत
firm, a husband, a high-born, will not select
कन्या काले नृसिंह
a maiden, in time, O Lion among men!
नर-लोक-मन:-अभिरामम्
of the mankind's' mind captivating
O Mukunda! (Bestower of liberation), You Who are equal to only Yourself in nobility, pedigree, charm, high learning, youthfulness, opulence, glory, which high born noble maiden of firm mind will not select You as a husband, O Lion among men, You Who captivate the minds of mankind?
तन्मे भवान् खलु वृत: पतिरङ्ग जायामात्मार्पितश्च भवतोऽत्र विभो विधेहि ।
मा वीरभागमभिमर्शतु चैद्य आराद् गोमायुवन्मृगपतेर्बलिमम्बुजाक्ष ॥३९॥
तत्-मे भवान् खलु वृत:
hence, by me, indeed, selected,
पति:-अङ्ग जायाम्-आत्म-अर्पित:-च
as husband, O Dear! as a wife, self surrendered, and
भवत:-अत्र विभो विधेहि
by You , here O Lord! Marry
मा वीर-भागम्-अभिमर्शतु
may not, The Hero's share squander,
चैद्य: आरात् गोमायु-वत्-
the Chaidya king, near, the jackal like,
मृगपते:-बलिम्-अम्बुजाक्ष
of lion's share, O Lotus eyed Lord!
O Dear! Hence, as I have selected You as my husband, and have surrendered myself as Your wife, You must marry me here, in my father's house. O Lotus-eyed Lord! May not, by coming near me, the jackal like Shishupaal squander the share, which is that of the lion like hero, You.
पूर्तेष्टदत्तनियमव्रतदेवविप्रगुर्वर्चनादिभिरलं भगवान् परेश: ।
आराधितो यदि गदाग्रज एत्य पाणिं गृह्णातु मे न दमघोषसुतादयोऽन्ये ॥४०॥
पूर्त-इष्ट-दत्त-नियम-व्रत
are donedesireable works, rituals, charity, fasings,
देव-विप्र-गुरु-अर्चन-आदिभि:-
gods', Braahmanas', elders', worship, etc.,
अलम् भगवान् परेश:
enough, The Lord Supreme
आराधित: यदि गद-अग्रज:
is worshipped if, Gada's elder Brother, (Krishna)
एत्य पाणिम् गृह्णातु मे
may coming, hand hold my
न दमघोष-सुत-आदय:-अन्ये
not Damaghosha's son or any other
If I have properly propitiated The Supreme Lord by enough of charitable works, religious acts, observing of given practices, fasting, worship for the gods, Braahmanas, elders, etc., then, may Gada's Brother, Krishna, take my hand in marriage and not Shishupaala, the son of Damaghosha, or any other.
श्वोभाविनि त्वमजितोद्वहने विदर्भान् गुप्त: समेत्य पृतनापतिभि: परीत: ।
निर्मथ्य चैद्यमगधेन्द्रबलं प्रसह्य मां राक्षसेन विधिनोद्वह वीर्यशुल्काम् ॥४१॥
श्व:-भाविनि त्वम्-अजित-
on day following, You, O Invincible One!
उद्वहने विदर्भान् गुप्त: समेत्य
during marriage, to Vidarbha secretly reaching,
पृतनापतिभि: परीत:
by army generals surrounded,
निर्मथ्य चैद्य-मगध-इन्द्र-बलम्
defeating the Chaidya and Magadha king's army,
प्रसह्य माम् राक्षसेन विधिना-
forcefully me, by Raakshasa rituals
उद्वह वीर्यशुल्काम्
marry, by valour paying my price
O Invincible One! Tomorrow, during the marriage, secretly reaching Vidarbha, surrounded by army generals, defeating the Chaidya and Magadha king's armies, forcefully marry me by Raakshasa rituals, by paying my price with valour.
अन्त:पुरान्तरचरीमनिहत्य बन्धूंस्त्वामुद्वहे कथमिति प्रवदाम्युपायम् ।
पूर्वेद्युरस्ति महती कुलदेवियात्रा यस्यां बहिर्नववधूर्गिंरिजामुपेयात् ॥४२॥
अन्त:पुर-अन्तर-चरीम्-
the inner chambers' inside living
निहत्य बन्धून्-त्वाम्-उद्वहे
killing the relatives, You will marry
कथम्-इति प्रवदामि-उपायम्
how, this, will tell the means,
पूर्वेद्यु:-अस्ति महती कुलदेवि-
on the eve of the day, there is a great of the Kula Devi,
यात्रा यस्याम् बहि:-
procession, in which in the outside,
नव-वधू-गिरिजाम्-उपेयात्
the new bride, The Goddess Paarvati goes to
If it is so, that, 'Without killing the relatives who reside in the inner chambers, how can I marry you,' I will tell you the means. On the eve, of that day (of marriage) there is a great procession of the Kul-devi, in which the new bride is supposed to go out to the shrine of Goddess Paarvati.
यस्याङ्घ्रिपङ्कजरज: स्नपनं महन्तो वाञ्छन्त्युमापतिरिवात्मतमोऽपहत्यै ।
यर्ह्यम्बुजाक्ष न लभेय भवत्प्रसादं जह्यामसून् व्रतकृशाञ्छतजन्मभि: स्यात् ॥४३॥
यस्य-अङ्घ्रि-पङ्कज-रज:
Whose feet lotuses' dust
स्नपनम् महन्त: वाञ्छन्ति-
to bathe in the exalted seek
उमा-पति:-इव-आत्म-तम:-अपहत्यै
Uma's husband, like, own darkness (Ignorance) to dispel
यर्हि-अम्बुज-अक्ष न लभेय
until, O Lotus-eyed One! do not attain
भवत्-प्रसादम् जह्याम्-असून्
Your grace, will give up life
व्रत-कृशान्-शत-जन्मभि: स्यात्
by fasting withered, in hundreds births if
If I do not attain Your grace, O Lotus-eyed Lord, in Whose lotus feet's dust the exalted souls like Uma's husband Shiva, also seeks to bathe in, to dispel the darkness of ignorance of their own souls, I will give up my already withered life, by fasting, even if it takes me hundreds of births.
ब्राह्मण उवाच -
The Braahmin said -
इत्येते गुह्यसन्देशा यदुदेव मयाऽऽहृता: ।
विमृश्य कर्तुं यच्चात्र क्रियतां तदनन्तरम् ॥४४॥
इति-एते गुह्य-सन्देशा:
thus, these are the secret messages,
यदु-देव मया-आहृता:
O Lord of the Yadus! by me brought,
विमृश्य कर्तुम् यत्-च-अत्र
considering to do which and here,
क्रियताम् तत्-अनन्तरम्
please do, that after
O Lord of the Yadus! these are the secret messages, brought by me. Considering them, after that, please do that which should be done here, in this case.
इति श्रीमद्भागवते महापुराणे पारमहंस्यां संहितायां दशमस्कन्धे उत्तरार्धे रुक्मिण्युद्वाहप्रस्तावे द्विपञ्चाशत्तमोऽध्याय: ॥५२॥
Thus ends the fifty-second discourse, bearing on the subject of Rukmini's wedding, in the latter half of Book Ten of the great and glorious Bhaagavata-Puraana.
