राजा-उवाच -
The King said -
अजातशत्रोस्तं दृष्ट्वा राजसूयमहोदयम् ।
सर्वे मुमुदिरे ब्रह्मन् नृदेवा ये समागता: ॥१॥
अजातशत्रो:-तम् दृष्ट्वा
of Yudhishthira that watching
राजसूय-महोदयम्
of the Raajasooya great success,
सर्वे मुमुदिरे ब्रह्मन्
all rejoiced, O divine sage!
नृदेवा: ये समागता:
the kings who had come
O Divine Sage! All the kings who had come and watched the success of the Raajasooya sacrifice of Yudhishthira, were very pleased and rejoiced.
दुर्योधनं वर्जयित्वा राजान: सर्षय: सुरा: ।
इति श्रुतं नो भगवंस्तत्र कारणमुच्यताम् ॥२॥
दुर्योधनम् वर्जयित्वा
Duryodhana except for,
राजान: स-ऋषय: सुरा:
the kings along with the sages and gods
इति श्रुतम् न: भगवन्-
this was heard by us, O Honoured One!
तत्र कारणम्-उच्यताम्
There, the reason, do say
O Honoured sage! Except for Duryodhana, all the kings, along with the sages and gods were happy. Do tell us the reason for this.
ऋषि:-उवाच -
Shree Shuka said -
पितामहस्य ते यज्ञे राजसूये महात्मन: ।
बान्धवा: परिचर्यायां तस्यासन् प्रेमबन्धना: ॥३॥
पितामहस्य ते यज्ञे
of grand father's your, in the sacrifice
राजसूये महात्मन:
of Raajasooya, of the noble souled,
बान्धवा: परिचर्यायाम्
the relatives in service
तस्य-आसन् प्रेम-बन्धना:
of his were by affection bound
During the Raajasooya sacrifice of your noble souled grand father, Yudhishthira, all the relatives were in his service, in some or the other way, bound by affection to him.
भीमो महानसाध्यक्षो धनाध्यक्ष: सुयोधन: ।
सहदेवस्तु पूजायां नकुलो द्र्व्यसाधने ॥४॥
भीम: महानस-अध्यक्ष:
Bheema of the big kitchen was in charge,
धन-अध्यक्ष: सुयोधन:
treasury in charge was Duryodhana,
सहदेव:-तु पूजायाम्
Sahadeva indeed in the welcoming of guests,
नकुल: द्र्व्य-साधने
Nakula in supplies procured
Bheema was in charge of the big kitchen, Duryodhana was in charge of the treasury, indeed, Sahadeva was given the charge of welcoming the guests, and Nakula was to procure supplies.
गुरुशुश्रुषणे जिष्णु: कृष्ण: पादावनेजने ।
परिवेषणे द्रुपदजा कर्णो दाने महामना: ॥५॥
गुरु-शुश्रुषणे जिष्णु:
for the elders' waiting upon, was Arjuna,
कृष्ण: पाद-अवनेजने
Krishna took on the feet washing,
परिवेषणे द्रुपदजा
for serving food was Draupadi,
कर्ण: दाने महामना:
and Karna, for giving gifts, the magnanimous
Arjuna was to wait upon the elders, Krishna took on the washing of the guests' feet, Draupadi served food, and the magnanimous Karna was appointed to give away gifts.
युयुधानो विकर्णश्च हार्दिक्यो विदुरादय: ।
वह्लीकपुत्रा भूर्याद्या ये च सन्तर्दनादय: ॥६॥
युयुधान: विकर्ण:-च
Saatyaki, Vikarna, and
हार्दिक्य: विदुर-आदय:
Haardikya, Vidura and others,
वह्लीक-पुत्रा:
Vahlika's sons,
भूरि-आद्या ये च
Bhoorishravaa and others those and
सन्तर्दन-आदय:
Santardana and others
Saatyaki, Vikarna, Haardikya, Vidura, Vahlika's sons, Bhoorishravaa Santardana and others, were engaged in some or the other work.
निरूपिता महायज्ञे नाना कर्मसु ते तदा ।
प्रवर्तन्ते स्म राजेन्द्र राज्ञ: प्रियचिकीर्षव: ॥७॥
निरूपिता: महायज्ञे
were entrusted in the great sacrifice,
नाना कर्मसु ते तदा
in various duties, they then,
प्रवर्तन्ते स्म राजेन्द्र
carried out them they, O Great King!
राज्ञ: प्रिय-चिकीर्षव:
for the kings' pleasure
O Great King! In that great sacrifice, they were entrusted with various duties, and they then carried them out for the pleasure of the king.
ऋत्विक्सदस्यबहुवित्सु सुहृत्तमेषु स्विष्टेषु सूनृतसमर्हणदक्षिणाभि: ।
चैद्ये च सात्वतपतेश्चरणं प्रविष्टे चक्रुस्ततस्त्ववभृथस्नपनं द्युनद्याम् ॥८॥
ऋत्विक्-सदस्य-बहुवित्सु
the presiding priests, supervisors, the very wise,
सुहृत्तमेषु स्विष्टेषु सूनृत-
dear friends, relatives, by sweet words,
समर्हण-दक्षिणाभि:
presents, and fees,
चैद्ये च सात्वतपते:-चरणम्
Shishupaala and in The Lord's feet
प्रविष्टे चक्रु:-तत:-तु-
having entered, conducted then, indeed,
अवभृथ-स्नपनम् द्यु-नद्याम्
the concluding bathing in the holy river (Ganga)
After having honoured the presiding priests, the supervisors, the very wise, dear friends, and the relatives, with sweet words, presents, and fees, and Shishupaala having entered The Lord's feet, Yudhishthira went to the holy river Ganga to perform the concluding bathing ritual.
मृदङ्गशङ्खपणवधुन्धुर्यानकगोमुखा: ।
वादित्राणि विचित्राणि नेदुरावभृथोत्सवे ॥९॥
मृदङ्ग-शङ्ख-पणव-
drum, conch, kettle drum,
धुन्धुरि-आनक-गोमुखा:
tabor, nagaaras, trumpets
वादित्राणि विचित्राणि
musical instruments various
नेदु:-अवभृथ-उत्सवे
were sounded, on the concluding ceremony
Various musical instruments like drum, conch, kettle drum, tabor, nagaaras, trumpets were sounded at the concluding ceremony.
नर्तक्यो ननृतुर्हृष्टा गायका यूथशो जगु: ।
वीणावेणुतलोन्नादस्तेषां स दिवमस्पृशत् ॥१०॥
नर्तक्य: ननृतु:-हृष्टा:
the dancers danced in joy,
गायका: यूथश: जगु:
the singers in chorus sang,
वीणा-वेणुतल-उन्नाद:-
of the Veena and flute's high music
तेषाम् स: दिवम्-अस्पृशत्
theirs, that the heavens touched
The dancers danced in joy, the singers sang in chorus, the basic high sound of the Veenaa and the flute, that reached the heavens.
चित्रध्वजपताकाग्रैरिभेन्द्रस्यन्दनार्वभि: ।
स्वलङ्कृतैर्भटैर्भूपा निर्ययू रुक्ममालिन: ॥११॥
चित्र-ध्वज-पताका-अग्रै:-
colourful flags, phastoons, preceding
इभेन्द्र-स्यन्दन-अर्वभि:
with elephants royal, chariots, horses,
स्वलङ्कृतै:-भटै:-भूपा:
well adorned attendents, the kings
निर्ययु: रुक्म-मालिन:
went out with golden necklaces
The kings, well adorned with golden necklaces, went out preceded by colourful flags phastoons, royal elephants, chariots, horses, and attendents.
यदुसृञ्जयकाम्बोजकुरुकेकयकोसला: ।
कम्पयन्तो भुवं सैन्यैर्यजमानपुर: सरा: ॥१२॥
यदु-सृञ्जय-काम्बोज-
the Yadus, Srinjayas, Kaambojas,
कुरु-केकय-कोसला:
Kurus, Kekayas, Kosalas,
कम्पयन्त: भुवम् सैन्यै:-
shaking the earth with the armies,
यजमान-पुर: सरा:
the host followed
The Yadus, Srinjayas, Kaambojas, Kurus, Kekayas, Kosalas, with their armies shaking the earth, followed the host.
सदस्यर्त्विग्द्विजश्रेष्ठा ब्रह्मघोषेण भूयसा ।
देवर्षिपितृगन्धर्वास्तुष्टुवु: पुष्पवर्षिण: ॥१३॥
सदस्य-ऋत्विक्-द्विज-श्रेष्ठा:
members, presiding priests, Braahmanas prominent
ब्रह्म-घोषेण भूयसा
with the Vedas chanting loudly
देवर्षि-पितृ-गन्धर्वा:-
the divine sages, Pitris, Gandharvas,
तुष्टुवु: पुष्प-वर्षिण:
sang praises and flowers showered
The members, presiding priests, prominent Braahmanas chanted the Vedas loudly and the divine sages, Pitris, Gandharvas sang praises and showered flowers.
स्वलङ्कृता नरा नार्यो गन्धस्रग्भूषणाम्बरै: ।
विलिम्पन्त्योऽभिषिञ्चन्त्यो विजह्रुर्विविधैरसै: ॥14॥
स्वलङ्कृता: नरा: नार्य:
well adorned men and women
गन्ध-स्रक्-भूषण-अम्बरै:
with scent, garlands, ornaments and clothes,
विलिम्पन्त्य:-अभिषिञ्चन्त्य:
smearing, sprinkling
विजह्रु:-विविधै:-रसै:
sported with various liquids
The men and women of the city, well adorned with scent, garlands, ornaments and clothes, came out on the road , and sported as they smeared and sprinkled each other with various liquids.
तैलगोरसगन्धोदहरिद्रासान्द्रकुङ्कुमै: ।
पुम्भिर्लिप्ता: प्रलिम्पन्त्यो विजह्रुर्वारयोषित: ॥१५॥
तैल-गोरस-गन्ध-उत-
with oil, milk, butter, scented water,
हरिद्रा-सान्द्र-कुङ्कुमै:
turmeric, thick saffron paste,
पुम्भि:-लिप्ता: प्रलिम्पन्त्य:
by the men smeared, in return smeared
विजह्रु:-वार-योषित:
and sported the courtesans
Smeared by the men with oil, milk, butter, scented water, turmeric, thick saffron paste, the courtesan sported by smearing them in return.
गुप्ता नृभिर्निरगमन्नुपलब्धुमेतद् देव्यो यथा दिवि विमानवरैर्नृदेव्य: ।
ता मातुलेयसखिभि: परिषिच्यमाना: सव्रीडहासविकसद्वदना विरेजु: ॥१६॥
गुप्ता: नृभि:-निरगमत्-
safely with the men came
उपलब्धुम्-एतत् देव्य: यथा
to see this (occasion) the celestial ladies, like
दिवि विमान-वरै:-नृदेव्य:
in the sky, in areal cars excellent, the royal ladies,
ता: मातुलेय-सखिभि:
they by the maternal cousin and His friends
परिषिच्यमाना: स-व्रीड-हास-
sprinkled (with scented water), with coy smiles
विकसत्-वदना: विरेजु:
blooming faces looked beautiful
Just as the celestial ladies came out in the sky, in their excellent areal cars, to witness this occasion, the royal ladies came protected by the men, and they were sprinkled with scented water, by their maternal cousin Krishna and His friends, which made them look all the more beautiful with their coy smiles.
ता देवरानुत सखीन् सिषिचुर्दृतीभि: क्लिन्नाम्बरा विवृतगात्रकुचोरुमध्या: ।
औत्सुक्यमुक्तकबराच्च्यवमानमाल्या: क्षोभं दधुर्मलधियां रुचिरैर्विहारै: ॥१७॥
ता: देवरान्-उत सखीन्
they, the brother in laws, and friends
सिषिचु:-दृतीभि: क्लिन्न-अम्बरा:
sprinkled with syringes, drenched clothed,
विवृत-गात्र-च-उरु-मध्या:
revealing the body and thighs and waist
औत्सुक्य-मुक्त-कबरात्-
by anxiety, loosened braids
च्यवमान-माल्या: क्षोभम् दधु:-
falling garlands, impetus gave to
मल-धियाम् रुचिरै:-विहारै:
the impure minded, the lovely innocent sport
The royal ladies sent jets of water on their brother-in-laws and their friends from the syringes. Their own drenched clothes revealed their bodies, thighs and waists. In the anxiety of the moment, the flower garlands fell from their loosened braids. Their lovely innocent sport gave impetus to the impure minded.
स सम्राड् रथमारूढ: सदश्वं रुक्ममालिनम् ।
व्यरोचत स्वपत्नीभि: क्रियाभि: क्रतुराडिव ॥१८॥
स: सम्राट् रथम्-आरूढ:
that emperor, on the chariot mounted,
सत्-अश्वम् रुक्म-मालिनम्
with good horses and golden necklaces,
व्यरोचत स्व-पत्नीभि:
shone with own wives,
क्रियाभि: क्रतु-राट्-इव
by the rituals the great sacrifice like
The emperor Yudhishthira was mounted on the chariot with good horses having golden chains. He looked splendid like the great Raajasooya sacrifice personified, with the rituals and oblations.
पत्नीसंयाजावभृथ्यैश्चरित्वा ते तमृत्विज: ।
आचान्तं स्नापयाञ्चक्रुर्गङ्गायां सह कृष्णया ॥१९॥
पत्नी-संयाज-अवभृथ्यै:-
Patni-Sanyaaja (a ritual), in the conclusion,
चरित्वा ते तम्-ऋत्विज:
performed, they, him, the presiding priests
आच-अन्तम् स्नापयान्-चक्रु:-
after washing the mouth, to bathe made
गङ्गायाम् सह कृष्णया
in the Ganga with Draupadi
In the concluding ceremony, the presiding priests got the ritual of Patni-Sanyaaja performed, then after they had made him do Aachaman (washing of mouth), they made him bathe in Ganga along with Draupadi.
देवदुन्दुभयो नेदुर्नरदुन्दुभिभि: समम् ।
मुमुचु: पुष्पवर्षाणि देवर्षिपितृमानवा: ॥२०॥
देव-दुन्दुभय: नेदु:-
the gods trumpets sounded,
नर-दुन्दुभिभि: समम्
the men's trumpets with,
मुमुचु: पुष्प-वर्षाणि
shed flower showers
देवर्षि-पितृ-मानवा:
celestial sages, the manes, and people
The men sounded trumpets along with the trumpets sounded by the gods. The celestial sages, the manes and the people shed showers of flowers.
सस्नुस्तत्र तत: सर्वे वर्णाश्रमयुता नरा: ।
महापातक्यपि यत: सद्यो मुच्यते किल्बिषात् ॥२१॥
सस्नु:-तत्र तत: सर्वे
bathed there then all
वर्ण-आश्रम-युता: नरा:
Varna Aashrama belonging to, the people,
महापातकी-अपि यत:
a great sinner also by which
सद्य: मुच्यते किल्बिषात्
soon is rid of sins
Then all the people there, belonging to all the casts and stages, bathed. By bathing there, even the great sinner is rid of his sins.
अथ राजाहते क्षौमे परिधाय स्वलङ्कृत: ।
ऋत्विक्सदस्यविप्रादीनानर्चाभरणाम्बरै: ॥२२॥
अथ राजा-अहते क्षौमे
then, the king, new two clothes
परिधाय सु-अलङ्कृत:
wearing, well ornamented,
ऋत्विक्-सदस्य-विप्र-
the presiding priests, members, Braahmanas
आदीन्-आनर्च-आभरण-अम्बरै:
and others, worshipped with ornaments and clothes
Then, the king wore two new clothes, and was well ornamented. He then worshipped the presiding priests, members and Braahmanas and others with ornaments and clothes.
बन्धुज्ञातिनृपान् मित्रसुहृदोऽन्यांश्च सर्वश: ।
अभीक्ष्णं पूजयामास नारायणपरो नृप: ॥२३॥
बन्धु-ज्ञाति-नृपान् मित्र-
kinsmen, relatives, princes, friends,
सुहृद:-अन्यान्-च सर्वश:
well-wishers, others and everywhere,
अभीक्ष्णम् पूजयामास
now and again, honoured
नारायण-पर: नृप:
the Naaraayana devotee king
The Naaraayana devotee king, now and again, honoured the kinsmen, relatives, princes, friends, and well-wishers, and others, everywhere.
सर्वे जना: सुररुचो मणिकुण्डलस्रगुष्णीषकञ्चुकदुकूलमहार्घ्यहारा: ।
नार्यश्च कुण्डलयुगालकवृन्दजुष्टवक्त्रश्रिय: कनकमेखलया विरेजु: ॥२४॥
सर्वे जना: सुर-रुच: मणि-कुण्डल-
all people gods like good looking, with gem ear-rings,
स्रग्-उष्णीष-कञ्चुक-दुकूल-
garlands, turbans, long coats, silk scarves
महा-अर्घ्य-हारा:
very valuable necklaces,
नार्य:-च कुण्डल-युग-
the women and ear-rings, both
अलक-वृन्द-जुष्ट-वक्त्र-श्रिय:
curls cluster overhanging, on the face beautiful
कनक-मेखलया विरेजु:
with golden waist bands flaunted
All the people looked as good as the gods with gem ear-rings, garlands, turbans, long coats, silk scarves and very valuable necklaces. The women looked enchanting with pair of ear-rings, cluster of locks and curls overhanging on the faces, and flaunting golden waist bands.
अथर्त्विजो महाशीला: सदस्या ब्रह्मवादिन: ।
ब्रह्मक्षत्रियविट्शूद्रा राजानो ये समागता: ॥२५॥
अथ-ऋत्विज: महाशीला:
then, the presiding priests of high character,
सदस्या: ब्रह्म-वादिन:
the members, the Veda knowers,
ब्रह्म-क्षत्रिय-विट्-शूद्रा:
Braahmanas, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, Shoodras,
राजान: ये समागता:
the kings, who had come,…
Then, the presiding priests of high character, the Veda knower members, the Braahmanas, Kshatriyas, Vaishyas, Shoodras, the kings, who had come,…
देवर्षिपितृभूतानि लोकपाला: सहानुगा: ।
पूजितास्तमनुज्ञाप्य स्वधामानि ययुर्नृप ॥२६॥
देवर्षि-पितृ-भूतानि
the celestial sages, manes, other beings,
लोकपाला: सह-अनुगा:
the guardians with the attendents,
पूजिता:-तम्-अनुज्ञाप्य
honoured, him taking leave of,
स्व-धामानि ययु:-नृप
to own abodes went, O King!
O King! the celestial sages, manes, other beings, the guardians with the attendents, honoured by him, took his leave, and returned to their own abodes.
हरिदासस्य राजर्षे राजसूयमहोदयम् ।
नैवातृप्यन् प्रशंसन्त: पिबन् मर्त्यऽमृतं यथा ॥२७॥
हरिदासस्य राजर्षे:
of Hari the devotee, the royal sage,
राजसूय-महा-उदयम्
Raajasooya great success
न-एव-अतृप्यन् प्रशंसन्त:
not even were tired, praising
पिबन् मर्त्य:-अमृतम् यथा
drinking a mortal, nectar just as
They did not tire of praising the grand success of the Raajasooya of the royal sage, the devotee of Shree Hari, Yudhishthira, just as a mortal does not tire of drinking the nectar.
ततो युधिष्ठिरो राजा सुहृत्सम्बन्धिबान्धवान् ।
प्रेम्णा निवासयामास कृष्णं च त्यागकातर: ॥२८॥
तत: युधिष्ठिर: राजा
then, Yudhishthira, the king,
सुहृत्-सम्बन्धि-बान्धवान्
the kinsmen, relatives and friends,
प्रेम्णा निवासयामास
with love detained
कृष्णम् च त्याग-कातर:
Krishna and sending away not bearing
Then, the king Yudhishthira, lovingly detained his kinsmen, relatives and friends, and also Krishna not bearing to send them away.
भगवानपि तत्राङ्ग न्यवात्सीत्तत्प्रियङ्कर: ।
प्रस्थाप्य यदुवीरांश्च साम्बादींश्च कुशस्थलीम् ॥२९॥
भगवान्-अपि तत्र-अङ्ग
The Lord also there, O Dear Pareekshit!
न्यवात्सीत्-तत्-प्रियङ्कर:
stayed his desired to do
प्रस्थाप्य यदु-वीरान्-च
sending the Yaadavaas warriors and
साम्बादीन्-च कुशस्थलीम्
Saamba and others to Dwaarakaa
O Dear Pareekshit! The Lord to do the desired of the king, stayed there, and sent away the Yaadavaas warriors and Saamba and others to Dwaarakaa.
इत्थं राजा धर्मसुतो मनोरथमहार्णवम् ।
सुदुस्तरं समुत्तीर्य कृष्णेनासीद् गतज्वर: ॥३०॥
इत्थम् राजा धर्मसुत:
in this manner, the king, of Dharma the son,
मनोरथ-महा-अर्णवम्
the ambition great ocean
सुदुस्तरम् समुत्तीर्य
difficult to cross, having crossed well
कृष्णेन-आसीत् गत-ज्वर:
by Krishna, became relieved
In this manner, the king, the son of Dharma, with Krishna's help, had crossed the mighty ocean of the ambition of performing the Raajasooya sacrifice, which is difficult to perform, and became relieved.
एकदान्त:पुरे तस्य वीक्ष्य दुर्योधन: श्रियम् ।
अतप्यद् राजसूयस्य महित्वं चाच्युतात्मन: ॥३१॥
एकदा-अन्त:पुरे तस्य
one day, in the inner chambers, his
वीक्ष्य दुर्योधन: श्रियम्
observing, Duryodhana the splendour,
अतप्यत् राजसूयस्य महित्वम्
was jealous, of Raajasooya glory
च-अच्युत-आत्मन:
and of The Infinite Lord's devotee's
One day, as Duryodhana saw the splendour of Yudhishthira palace, he was jealous, of The Infinite Lord's devotee, and the glory of the Raajasooya sacrifice.
यस्मिन् नरेन्द्रदितिजेन्द्रसुरेन्द्रलक्ष्मीर्नाना विभान्ति किल विश्वसृजोपक्लृप्ता: ।
ताभि: पतीन् द्रुपदराजसुतोपतस्थे यस्यां विषक्तहृदय: कुरुराडतप्यत् ॥३२॥
यस्मिन् नरेन्द्र-दितिजेन्द्र-
in which, of the mortal kings, demon kings,
सुरेन्द्र-लक्ष्मी:-नाना विभान्ति
celestial lords, and Laxmi, various facilities
किल विश्वसृजा-उपक्लृप्ता:
definitely by Vishvakarmaa provided,
ताभि: पतीन् द्रुपदराजसुता-
by them her husbands Draupadi
उपतस्थे यस्यां विषक्त-
waited upon, in whom having attachment
हृदय: कुरुराट्-अतप्यत्
at heart the Kuru king was jealous
In that palace various facilities and splendours, of the mortal kings, demon kings and celestial leaders, and Laxmi, were provided by Vishvakarmaa, Maya. By these Draupadi waited upon and served her husbands. The Kuru king was attached to her at heart, and so he got jealous.
यस्मिंस्तदा मधुपतेर्महिषीसहस्रं श्रोणीभरेण शनकै: क्वणदङ्घ्रिशोभम् ।
मध्ये सुचारुकुचकुङ्कुमशोणहारं श्रीमन्मुखं प्रचलकुण्डलकुन्तलाढ्यम् ॥३३॥
यस्मिन्-तदा मधुपते:-
in which, then, of Shree Krishna
महिषी-सहस्रम् श्रोणी-भरेण
consorts thousands, for the bulky hips,
शनकै: क्वणत्-अङ्घ्रि-शोभम्
slowly, jingling feet charming
मध्ये सुचारु कुच-कुङ्कुम-
waist slender, of the breasts saffron
शोण-हारम् श्रीमत्-मुखम्
reddened the necklace, the beautiful faces
प्रचल-कुण्डल-कुन्तल-आढ्यम्
with shaking ear-rings and locks' clusters
In that palace there were a thousand of the consorts of Shree Krishna. They walked slowly for the weight of the hips, and the anklets jingled on their beautiful feet. They had slender waists, and the pearl necklace were reddened by the saffron paste on their breasts. Their face looked beautiful with the shaking clusters of the locks of hair and ear-rings.
सभायां मयक्लृप्तायां क्वापि धर्मसुतोऽधिराट् ।
वृतोऽनुजैर्बन्धुभिश्च कृष्णेनापि स्वचक्षुषा ॥३४॥
सभायाम् मय-क्लृप्तायाम्
in the hall, by Maya constructed,
क्व-अपि धर्मसुत:-अधिराट्
once, Yudhishthira, the emperor
वृत:-अनुजै:-बन्धुभि:-च

Once, Yudhishthira was seated in the hall constructed by Maya, surrounded by his brothers and kinsmen and also his own guide, Shree Krishna.
आसीन: काञ्चने साक्षादासने मघवानिव ।
पारमेष्ठ्यश्रिया जुष्ट: स्तूयमानश्च वन्दिभि: ॥३५॥
आसीन: काञ्चने साक्षात्-
seated on golden clearly,
आसने मघवान्-इव
throne, Indra like
पारमेष्ठ्य-श्रिया जुष्ट:
imperial splendour with shining,
स्तूयमान:-च वन्दिभि:
praised and by the bards
He sat on a golden throne clearly looking like Indra, with his imperial splendour invested, and being praised by the bards.
तत्र दुर्योधनो मानी परीतो भ्रातृभिर्नृप ।
किरीटमाली न्यविशदसिहस्त: क्षिपन् रुषा ॥३६॥
तत्र दुर्योधन: मानी
there Duryodhana, the arrogant,
परीतो भ्रातृभि:-नृप
surrounded by his brothers, O King!
किरीट-माली न्यविशत्-
with crown, and garland entered,
असि-हस्त: क्षिपन् रुषा
sword in hand, scolding angrily
O King! The arrogant Duryodhana, entered there, surrounded by his brothers, wearing a crown and garland, sword in hand, scolding angrily the guards.
स्थलेऽभ्यगृह्णाद् वस्त्रान्तं जलं मत्वा स्थलेऽपतत् ।
जले स स्थलवद् भ्रान्त्या मयमायाविमोहित: ॥३७॥
स्थले-अभ्यगृह्णात् वस्त्र-अन्तम्
on the floor gathered the clothes' ends
जलम् मत्वा स्थले-अपतत्
water mistaking in the floor fell
जले स: स्थल-वत् भ्रान्त्या
in the water he floor as delusion
मय-माया-विमोहित:
by Maya's Maayaa deluded
Deluded by the Maayaa of Maya, at one part of the floor he mistook for water and gathered his clothes. At another part he mistook it to be the floor and fell into the water.
जहास भीमस्तं दृष्ट्वा स्त्रियो नृपतयोऽपरे ।
निवार्यमाणा अप्यङ्ग राज्ञा कृष्णानुमोदिता: ॥३८॥
जहास भीम:-तम् दृष्ट्वा
laughed Bheema, him seeing,
स्त्रिय: नृपतय:-अपरे
the women, the kings and the others
निवार्यमाणा अपि-अङ्ग
deterred also, O Dear!
राज्ञा कृष्ण-अनुमोदिता:
by the king, by Krishna encouraged
O Dear Pareekshit! Seeing him, Bheema, the women and the other kings laughed even though deterred by the king, but encouraged by Krishna.
स व्रीडितोऽवाग्वदनो रुषा ज्वलन् निष्क्रम्य तूष्णीं प्रययौ गजाह्वयम् ।
हाहेति शब्द: सुमहानभूत् सतामजातशत्रुर्विमना इवाभवत् ।
बभूव तूष्णीं भगवान् भुवो भरं समुज्जिहीर्षुर्भ्रमति स्म यद्दृशा ॥३९॥
स: व्रीडित:-अवाक्-वदन:
he, ashamed, downcast head,
रुषा ज्वलन् निष्क्रम्य
in anger burning, went out
तूष्णीम् प्रययौ गजाह्वयम्
quietly went to Hastinaapura
हा-हा-इति शब्द: सुमहान्-अभूत्
'Ha ha!' words loud were heard
सताम्-अजातशत्रु:-
from the noble, Yudhishthira
विमना इव-अभवत्
disheartened like became
बभूव तूष्णीम् भगवान्
kept silent The Lord
भुव: भरम् समुज्जिहीर्षु:-
of the earth's burden to decrease
भ्रमति-स्म यत्-दृशा
deluded was by Whose sight
Duryodhana was ashamed, burning in anger, with a hanging head, he quietly went out and went away to Hastinaapura. There was a great sound of dismay from the noble people, Yudhishthira became disheartened, and Krishna was silent, as it was He, Who, for the sake of decreasing the burden of the earth, had, by His sight deluded him.
एतत्तेऽभिहितं राजन् यत् पृष्टोऽहमिह त्वया ।
सुयोधनस्य दौरात्म्यं राजसूये महाक्रतौ ॥४०॥
एतत्-ते-अभिहितम् राजन्
