सूत उवाच -
Soota said -
स एवमनुभूयेदं नारायणविनिर्मितम् ।
वैभवं योगमायायास्तमेव शरणं ययौ ॥१॥
स: एवम्-अनुभूय-इदम्
he, in this manner, experiencing this
नारायण-विनिर्मितम्
by Naaraayana displayed,
वैभवम् योग-मायाया:-
the glory of Yoga Maayaa,
तम्-एव शरणम् ययौ
Him alone for protection sought
He, the sage Maarkandeya, having experienced the glory of Yoga Maayaa, creative energy, displayed by Lord Naaraayana, sought Him alone, for protection.
मार्कण्डेय उवाच -
Maarkandeya said -
प्रपन्नोऽस्म्यङ्घ्रिमूलं ते प्रपन्नाभयदं हरे ।
यन्माययापि विबुधा मुह्यन्ति ज्ञानकाशया ॥२॥
प्रपन्न:-अस्मि-अङ्घ्रि-मूलम् ते
taken shelter have I in feet sole Your
प्रपन्न-अभयदम् हरे
to the resorted security giver, O Shree Hari!
यत्-मायया-अपि विबुधा:
in that, by Maayaa, even the wise
मुह्यन्ति ज्ञान-काशया
are deluded, to be knowledge repositories
O Shree Hari! I have resorted to the soles of Your feet, which are security givers to the restorers. By the influence of Maayaa, even the learned are deluded into thinking themselves to be the repositories of knowledge.
सूत उवाच -
Soota said -
तमेवं निभृतात्मानं वृषेण दिवि पर्यटन् ।
रुद्राण्या भगवान् रुद्रो ददर्श स्वगणिर्वृत: ॥३॥
तम्-एवम् निभृत-आत्मानम्
him, thus, collected minded,
वृषेण दिवि पर्यटन्
by the bull heavens journeying,
रुद्राण्या भगवान् रुद्र:
with Rudraanee, Lord Rudra
ददर्श स्व-गणै:-वृत:
saw, with his attendents accompanied
As Lord Rudra journeyed the heavens on his bull with Rudraanee and accompanied by his own attendents, He saw the sage with a collected mind.
अथोमा तमृषिं वीक्ष्य गिरिशं समभाषत ।
पश्येमं भगवन् विप्रं निभृतात्मेन्द्रियाशयम् ॥४॥
अथ-उमा तम्-ऋषिम् वीक्ष्य
then, Umaa, that sage, on seeing,
गिरिशम् समभाषत
to Gresham said,
पश्य-इमम् भगवन् विप्रम्
'Look at this, O Lord! Braahmana,
निभृत-आत्म-इन्द्रिय-आशयम्
of steady mind, senses and body'
Then, Umaa, on seeing that sage, said to Lord Shiva, ' O Lord! Look at this Braahmana with his steady mind, senses and body.'
निभृतोदझषव्रातं वातापाये यथार्णवम् ।
कुर्वस्य तपस: साक्षात् संसिद्धिं सिद्धिदो भवान् ॥५॥
निभृत-उद-झष-व्रातम्
'stilled of water, fishes' multitudes,
वातापाये यथा-अर्णवम्
on the storm having subsided, like ocean,
कुरु-अस्य तपस: साक्षात्
Do his asceticism directly
संसिद्धिम् सिद्धिद: भवान्
fruitful, fruit giver are You'
'He is like an ocean whose waters and multitudes of fishes have stilled after the passing of a storm. Do give him the fruit of his asceticism, as You are the giver of fruits.'
श्रीभगवान्-उवाच -
The Glorious Lord said -
नैवेच्छत्याशिष: क्वापि ब्रह्मर्षिर्मोक्षमप्युत ।
भक्तिं परां भगवति लब्धवान् पुरुषेऽव्यये ॥६॥
न-एव-इच्छति-आशिष: क्व-अपि
not even wishes blessing any
ब्रह्मर्षि:-मोक्षम्-अपि-उत
the Braahmana sage beatitude even indeed,
भक्तिम् पराम् भगवति
devotion supreme in The Lord
लब्धवान् पुरुषे-अव्यये
has attained in The Lord immortal
This Braahmana sage does not even wish for any blessing, not even beatitude, as he has attained supreme devotion in The Immortal Lord.
अथापि संवदिष्यामो भवान्येतेन साधुना ।
अयं हि परमो लाभो नृणां साधुसमागम: ॥७॥
अथ-अपि संवदिष्याम:
then even, will talk
भवानी-एतेन साधुना
O Bhavaani! With this sage
अयम् हि परम: लाभ:
this indeed is supreme gain
नृणाम् साधु-समागम:
of men, with sages meeting
O Bhavaani! Even then, we will talk to this sage. As, the meeting with a sage is indeed the supreme gain for the men.
सूत उवाच -
Soota said -
इत्युक्त्वा तमुपेयाय भगवान् स सतां गति: ।
ईशान: सर्वविद्यानामीश्वर: सर्वदेहिनाम् ॥८॥
इति-उक्त्वा तम्-उपेयाय
so saying, him approached,
भगवान् स: सताम् गति:
The Lord, He, of the righteous the resort,
ईशान: सर्व-विद्यानाम्-
Master of all sciences,
ईश्वर: सर्व-देहिनाम्
The Ruler of all embodied beings
So saying to Paarvati, He, The Lord, the resort of the righteous, The Master of all sciences, The Ruler of all embodied beings, approached that sage.
तयोरागमनं साक्षादीशयोर्जगदात्मनो: ।
न वेद रुद्धधीवृत्तिरात्मानं विश्वमेव च ॥९॥
तयो:-अगमनम् साक्षात्-
of them both coming, directly,
ईशयो:-जगत्-आत्मनो:
of The Sovereigns of the universe, of The Souls,
न वेद रुद्ध-धी-वृत्ति:-
did not know, with suspended mental activities,
आत्मानम् विश्वम्-एव च
himself and the world even
The sage Maarkandeya, whose mental activities were suspended, did not know of the coming of The Sovereigns of the universe, of The Souls of the embodied beings, of himself or of the world even.
भगवांस्तदभिज्ञाय गिरीशो योगमायया ।
आविशत्तद्गुहाकाशं वायुश्छिद्रमिवेश्वर: ॥१०॥
भगवान्-तत्-अभिज्ञाय
The Lord, that knowing,
गिरीश: योग-मायया
the Ruler of Kailaasha, by Yoga Maayaa,
आविशत्-तत्-गुहा-आकाशम्
entered the cavity of his heart
वायु:-छिद्रम्-इव-ईश्वर:
air a hole like, The Lord
The Lord, Ruler of Kailaasha, knowing his condition well, by Yoga Maayaa, the wonderful divine power, entered the cavity of his heart, like the air enters a hole.
आत्मन्यपि शिवं प्राप्तं तडित्पिङ्गजटाधरम् ।
त्र्यक्षं दशभुजं प्रांशुमुद्यन्तमिव भास्करम् ॥११॥
आत्मनि-अपि शिवम् प्राप्तम्
in himself also Shiva finding,
तडित्-पिङ्ग-जटा-धरम्
lightening like yellow matted locks adorning,
त्र्यक्षम् दश-भुजम् प्रांशुम्-
three eyed, ten armed, tall
उद्यन्तम्-इव भास्करम्
rising like sun
The sage finding in himself, his very being, Lord Shiva, with yellowish matted locks like streaks of lightening, three eyes, ten arms, tall figure, like the rising Sun.
व्याघ्रचर्माम्बरधरं शूलखट्वाङ्गचर्मभि: ।
अक्षमालाडमरुककपालासिधनु: सह ॥१२॥
व्याघ्र-चर्म-अम्बर-धरम्
tiger skin as lion cloth wearing,
शूल-खट्वाङ्ग-चर्मभि:
a club, foot of bedstead, shield,
अक्ष-माला-डमरुक-
Rudraaksha rosary, Damaru,
कपाल-असि-धनु: सह
skull, sword, bow, with
He wore tiger skin for a lion cloth, and had in His hands a club, a foot of a bedstead, a shield, a Rudraaksha rosary, a Damaru, a skull, a sword, a bow,….
बिभ्राणं सहसा भातं विचक्ष्य हृदि विस्मित: ।
किमिदं कुत एवेति समाधेर्विरतो मुनि: ॥१३॥
बिभ्राणम् सहसा भातम्
displaying suddenly, shining
विचक्ष्य हृदि विस्मित:
percieving, in the heart, amazed,
किम्-इदम् कुत: एव-इति
what is this, from where indeed this, so,
समाधे:-विरत: मुनि:
from trance woke up the sage
Suddenly displaying such shining form, percieving in his heart, the sage was amazed, what is this, from where indeed is this, so wondering, he woke up from his trance.
नेत्रे उन्मील्य ददृशे सगणं सोमयाऽऽगतम् ।
रुद्रं त्रिलोकैकगुरुं ननाम् शिरसा मुनि: ॥१४॥
नेत्रे उन्मील्य ददृशे
on eyes opening, saw
स-गणम् स-उमया-आगतम्
with the attendents, with Paarvati, come,
रुद्रम् त्रिलोक-एक-गुरुम्
Rudra, of the three worlds the one preceptor,
ननाम् शिरसा मुनि:
bowed with head the sage
On opening the eyes he saw Lord Rudra, the One Preceptor of the three worlds, having come with his attendents and with Paarvati, he bowed low with his head.
तस्मै सपर्या व्यदधात् सगणाय सहोमया ।
स्वागतासनपाद्यार्घ्यगन्धस्रग्धूपदीपकै: ॥१५॥
तस्मै सपर्या व्यदधात्
to Him worship extended,
स-गणाय सह-उमया
with the attendents, with Paarvati,
स्वागत-आसन-पाद्य-अर्घ्य-
with welcoming, seat, feet washing water,
गन्ध-स्रक्-धूप-दीपकै:
sandal paste, garland, incense, lamp
The sage extended worship to Him along with Paarvati and the attendents, with welcoming words, seats, water for washing hands and feet, sandal paste, garlands, and lighting the lamp and incense sticks.
आह चात्मानुभावेन पूर्णकामस्य ते विभो ।
करवाम किमीशान येनेदं निर्वृतं जगत् ॥१६॥
आह च-आत्म-अनुभावेन
said and 'through Self Realization
पूर्ण-कामस्य ते विभो
fulfilled of desires, for You, O Omnipresent Lord!
करवाम किम्-ईशान
should do what desired,
येन-इदम् निर्वृतम् जगत्
by whom this fulfilled is the world'
And said, "O Omnipresent Lord! what is it that is desired by You, which I should do, for You, Who are fulfilled of desires through Self Realization, and by whom this whole world is fulfilled.
नम: शिवाय शान्ताय सत्त्वाय प्रमृडाय च ।
रजोजुषेऽप्यघोराय नमस्तुभ्यं तमोजुषे ॥१७॥
नम: शिवाय शान्ताय
Salutations to Lord Shiva, the peaceful,
सत्त्वाय प्रमृडाय च
Saattvik, delighting and,
रज:-जुषे-अपि-अघोराय
Raja combined of, even, unfrightful,
नम:-तुभ्यम् तम:-जुषे
salutations to You, Tamas assuming,
Salutations to Lord Shiva, the peaceful, the Saattvik and delighting, having Rajas, yet not frightening, salutations to You, having Tamas, and yet not deluded.
सूत उवाच -
Soota said -
एवं स्तुत: स भगवानादिदेव सतां गति:।
परितुष्ट्: प्रसन्नात्मा प्रहसंस्तमभाषत ॥१८॥
एवम् स्तुत: स: भगवान्-
thus, extolled, He, The Lord,
आदि-देव: सताम् गति:
the foremost of the gods, the resort of righteous
परितुष्ट: प्रसन्न-आत्मा-
highly pleased, happy at soul,
प्रहसन्-तम्-अभाषत
laughingly, to him said
Thus extolled, He, The Lord, the foremost of the gods, the resort of righteous was highly pleased and was happy at soul, and laughingly said to him,….
श्री भगवान उवाच -
The Lord said -
वरं वृणीष्व न: कामं वरदेशा वयं त्रय: ।
अमोघं दर्शनं येषां मर्त्यो यद् विन्दतेऽमृतम् ॥१९॥
वरम् वृणीष्व न: कामम्
boon ask of Us, as desired
वरद-ईशा: वयम् त्रय:
boon Giver Lords we three are
अमोघम् दर्शनम् येषाम्
not in vain is sight of whom
मर्त्य: यत् विन्दते-अमृतम्
mortal man so that attains immortality
Ask for a boon from Us, as desired, as we three are the Givers of boons. Our sight does not go in vain, so that mortal man attains immortality.
ब्राह्मणा: साधव: शान्ता नि:सङ्गा भूतवत्सला: ।
एकान्तभक्ता अस्मासु निर्वैरा: समदर्शिन: ॥२०॥
ब्राह्मणा: साधव: शान्ता:
Braahmanas, pious, tranquil,
नि:सङ्गा: भूत-वत्सला:
unattached, to the beings compassionate,
एकान्त-भक्ता: अस्मासु
singularly devoted to Us,
निर्वैरा: समदर्शिन:
having no enemies, look upon all equally
The Braahmanas who are pious, unattached, compassionate to all beings, singularly devoted to Us, who have no enemies, and who look upon everyone with equal eyes,….
सलोका लोकपालास्तान् वन्दन्त्यर्चन्त्युपासते ।
अहं च भगवान् ब्रह्मा स्वयं च हरिरीश्वर: ॥२१॥
स-लोका: लोकपाला:-तान्
along with the spheres, the guardians, them
वन्दन्ति-अर्चन्ति-उपासते
honour, worship and attend,
अहम् च भगवान् ब्रह्मा
Myself, and Lord Brahmaa
स्वयम् च हरि:-ईश्वर:
Himself, and Shree Hari the Almighty
The guardians of the spheres, along with the spheres, Myself, Lord Brahmaa, and Himself, The Almighty Shree Hari, honour worship and wait upon them.
न ते मय्यच्युतेऽजे च भिदामण्वपि चक्षते ।
नात्मनश्च जनस्यापि तद् युष्मान् वयमीमहि ॥२२॥
न ते मयि-अच्युते-अजे च
not they, in Me, Lord Vishnu, Brahmaa and
भिदाम्-अणु-अपि चक्षते
differentiate least also, observe
न-आत्मन:-च जनस्य-अपि
not in themselves and people also,
तत् युष्मान् वयम्-ईमहि
therefore, you all, we honour you
They do not perceive any difference, what so ever, between, Me, Lord Vishnu and Brahmaa, also they do not see any difference between themselves and other people. That is why we honour them.
न ह्यम्मयानि तीर्थानि न देवाश्चेतनोज्झिता: ।
ते पुनन्त्युरुकालेन यूयं दर्शनमात्रत: ॥२३॥
न हि-अम्मयानि तीर्थानि
not indeed, water bodies are sacred places,
न देवा:-चेतन-उज्झिता:
not indeed, gods are consciousness devoid idols
ते पुनन्ति-उरु-कालेन
they purify after along time,
यूयम् दर्शन-मात्रत:
you all by sight alone
Indeed, all water consisting places are not holy pilgrimages, and the idols devoid of consciousness are not gods. They purify a man through the process of a long time. Whereas, you all purify a person by your mere sight.
ब्राह्मणेभ्यो नमस्यामो येऽस्मद्रूपं त्रयीमयम् ।
बभ्रत्यात्मसमाधानतप:स्वाध्यायसंयमै: ॥२४॥
ब्राह्मणेभ्य: नमस्याम:
to the Braahmanas, we bow
ये-अस्मत्-रूपम् त्रयीमयम्
who, are Our forms Vedic
बभ्रति-आत्म-समाधान
cherish, through concentration of mind,
तप:-स्वाध्याय-संयमै:
austerities, self-study, and self-control
We bow to the Braahmanas, who cherish Our verbal forms in the three Vedas, through concentration of mind, austerities, self-study and self-control.
श्रवणाद् दर्शनाद् वापि महापातकिनोऽपि व: ।
शुध्येरन्नन्त्यजाश्चापि किमु सम्भाषणादिभि: ॥२५॥
श्रवणात् दर्शनात् वा-अपि
by hearing of you, by seeing you, or also,
महा-पातकिन:-अपि व:
great sinners, even, you,
शुध्येरन्-अन्त्यजा:-च-अपि
are purified, lowly born's, and also
किम्-उ सम्भाषण-आदिभि:
what of by conversing and so on
The great sinners and the lowly born people are purified by hearing about you, and by seeing you also, what of being purified by conversing with you and so on.
सूत उवाच -
Soota said -
इति चन्द्रललामस्य धर्मगुह्योपबृंहितम् ।
वचोऽमृतायनमृषिर्नातृप्यत् कर्णयो: पिबन् ॥२६॥
इति चन्द्रललामस्य
thus, His, Moon crescent on the head
धर्म-गुह्य-उपबृंहितम्
righteousness deep full of
वच:-अमृतायनम्-
words of nectar the abode,
ऋषि:-न-अतृप्यत् कर्णयो: पिबन्
the sage was not sated, with ears drinking
Thus of Lord Shiva, Who wore the crescent of the Moon on His head, His words full of deep righteousness import, the abode of nectar, even on drinking with the ears, the sage was not sated.
स चिरं मायया विष्णोर्भ्रामित: कर्शितो भृशम् ।
शिववागमृतध्वस्तक्लेशपुञ्जस्तमब्रवीत् ॥२७॥
स: चिरम् मायया विष्णो:-
he, for long by Maayaa of Lord Vishnu
भ्रामित: कर्शित: भृशम्
made to wander, emaciated much,
शिव-वाक्-अमृत-ध्वस्त-
by Lord Shiva's word nectar had destroyed
क्लेश-पुञ्ज:-तम्-अब्रवीत्
the afflictions' lot, to Him said,
He, the sage who was made to wander for a long time by the Maayaa of Lord Vishnu, and so, was much emaciated, the whole lot of his afflictions were destroyed by the nectar like words of Lord Shiva, and so, he said to Him,….
ऋषि:-उवाच -
The sage said -
अहो ईश्वरलीलेयं दुर्विभाव्या शरीरिणाम् ।
यन्नमन्तीशितव्यानि स्तुवन्ति जगदीश्वरा: ॥२८॥
अहो ईश्वर-लीला-इयम्
’Oh! Of Almighty Lord pastime this
दुर्विभाव्या शरीरिणाम्
difficult to understand by embodied beings
यत्-नमन्ति-ईशितव्यानि
in that, they bow to those who are commanded
स्तुवन्ति जगदीश्वरा:
glorify of the universe The Rulers
'Oh! This pastime of The almighty Lord is difficult to fathom by the embodied beings, in that, They, The Rulers of the universe bow to those who are to be commanded by Them.
धर्मं ग्राहयितुं प्राय: प्रवक्तारश्च देहिनाम् ।
आचरन्त्यनुमोदन्ते क्रियमाणं स्तुवन्ति च ॥२९॥
धर्मम् ग्राहयितुम् प्राय:
righteousness, to teach, generally,
प्रवक्तार:-च देहिनाम्
the teachers of embodied beings
आचरन्ति-अनुमोदन्ते
behave, recommend
क्रियमाणम् स्तुवन्ति च
and when enacted, applaud it
Generally, the teachers of the embodied beings, to teach righteousness, behave in that manner, recommend it, and applaud when acted upon by such teachings.
नैतावता भगवत: स्वमायामयवृत्तिभि: ।
न दुष्येतानुभावस्तैर्मायिन: कुहकं यथा ॥३०॥
न-एतावता भगवत:
not by this much, of The Lord,
स्व-मायामय-वृत्तिभि:
by Their own Maayaa's doings
न दुष्येत-अनुभाव:-तै:-
is not marred glory by those,
मायिन: कुहकम् यथा
of the tricksters tricks like
By such conducts of The Lord, conducted by His own Maayaa, His glory is not marred by them, like the tricks played by the trickster.
सृष्ट्वेदं मनसा विश्वमात्मनानुप्रविश्य य: ।
गुणै: कुर्वद्भिराभाति कर्तेव स्वप्नदृग् यथा ॥३१॥
सृष्ट्वा-इदम् मनसा विश्वम्-
having created this by thought, the world,
आत्मना-अनुप्रविश्य य:
by Himself afterwards entering, Who,
गुणै: कुर्वद्भि:-आभाति
by the Gunas acting like seems,
कर्ता-इव स्वप्न-दृक् यथा
doer like the dream watcher just as
He, having created the world by His thoughts, and then entering it, Who seems to be acting by the Gunas, just as the dream watcher seems like the doer,…..
तस्मै नमो भगवते त्रिगुणाय गुणात्मने ।
केवलायाद्वितीयाय गुरवे ब्रह्ममूर्तये ॥३२॥
तस्मै नम: भगवते
to Him I bow, to The Almighty
त्रिगुणाय गुण-आत्मने
having the three Gunas, The Controller of Gunas,
केवलाय-अद्वितीयाय
The Only One, without a second,
गुरवे ब्रह्म-मूर्तये
The Preceptor, of Vedas the form
I bow to that Almighty, Who seems to have the three Gunas, but is The controller of the Gunas, Who is The Only One, without a second, Who is The Preceptor in the form of The Vedas.
कं वृणे तु परं भूमन् वरं त्वद् वरदर्शनात् ।
यद्दर्शनात् पूर्णकाम: सत्यकाम: पुमान् भवेत् ॥३३॥
कम् वृणे तु परम् भूमन्
what boon should I ask, great, O Omnipresent!
वरम् त्वत् वर-दर्शनात्
better than that of Your the best sight,
यत्-दर्शनात् पूर्ण-काम:
by which sight, fulfilled of desire,
सत्य-काम: पुमान् भवेत्
true of resolve man becomes
'O Omnipresent Lord! What greater boon can I ask for, better than Your sight which is the best, the sight by which, a man becomes fulfilled of desire and true of resolve.'
वरमेकं वृणेऽथापि पूर्णात् कामाभिवर्षणात् ।
भगवत्यच्युतां भक्तिं तत्परेषु तथा त्वयि ॥३४॥
वरम्-एकम् वृणे-अथ-अपि
boon one, ask, then even
पूर्णात् काम-अभिवर्षणात्
of (You) The Self-sufficient, The showerers of boons,
भगवति-अच्युताम् भक्तिम्
in The Almighty, unwavering devotion,
तत्-परेषु तथा त्वयि
to Him devote, and in You
Even then I ask for a boon of You, The Self-sufficient, and The Showerers of boons, that is, may I have unwavering devotion for The Almighty Lord, for His devotees and for You.
सूत उवाच -
Soota said -
इत्यर्चितोऽभिष्टुतश्च मुनिना सूक्तया गिरा ।
तमाह भगवाञ्छर्व: शर्वया चाभिनन्दित: ॥३५॥
इति-अर्चित:-अभिष्टुत:-च
thus, worshipped and extolled
मुनिना सूक्तया गिरा
by the sage, with sweet words,
तम्-आह भगवान्-शर्व:
to him said Lord Shiva,
शर्वया च-अभिनन्दित:
by Paarvati supported
Thus Lord Shiva, was worshipped and extolled with sweet words by the sage, said to him, also supported by Paarvati.
कामो महर्षे सर्वोऽयं भक्तिमांस्त्वमधोक्षजे ।
आकल्पान्तात् यश: पुण्यमजरामरता तथा ॥३६॥
काम: महर्षे सर्व:-अयम्
desired, O sage! All this
भक्तिमान्-त्वम्-अधोक्षजे
devoted you are to Lord Vishnu,
आकल्प-अन्तात्-यश: पुण्यम्-
till Kalpa's end, (may) fame pure,
अजर-अमरता तथा
devoid of old age and immortality (be yours) so as
O Sage May you have all this desired by you, as you are devoted to Lord Vishnu, may you have pure fame till the end of the Kalpa, and may you enjoy immunity from old age, and immortality.
ज्ञानं त्रैकालिकं ब्रह्मन् विज्ञानं च विरक्तिमत् ।
ब्रह्मवर्चस्विनो भूयात् पुराणाचार्यतास्तु ते ॥३७॥
ज्ञानम् त्रैकालिकम् ब्रह्मन्
knowledge of three Times, O great sage!
विज्ञानम् च विरक्तिमत्
Self-Realization and dispassionate
ब्रह्म-वर्चस्विन: भूयात्
to you with Brahmanic glory, may be,
पुराण-आचार्यता-अस्तु ते
of Puraanas' teacher ship may be to you
O great sage! May you have knowledge of three Times, and dispassionate Self-Realization, and as you are endowed with Brahmanic glory, may you have the teacher ship of the Puranas.
एवं वरान् स मुनये दत्वागात्त्र्यक्ष ईश्वर: ।
देव्यै तत्कर्म कथयन्ननुभूतम् पुरामुना ॥३८॥
सूत उवाच -
Soota said -
एवम् वरान् स: मुनये दत्वा-
in this manner, boons He, to the sage granting,
अगात्-त्रि-अक्ष ईश्वर:
withdrew, The Three Eyed Lord,
देव्यै तत्-कर्म कथयन्-
to the Goddess, his deeds relating,
अनुभूतम् पुरा-अमुना
the experienced before by Him
In this manner having granted the boons to the sage, The Three-eyed Lord withdrew, relating to Goddess Paarvati the deeds of austerities of the sage and His former experiences.
सोऽप्यवाप्तमहायोगमहिमा भार्गवोत्तम: ।
विचरत्यधुनाप्यद्धा हरावेकान्ततां गत: ॥३९॥
स:-अपि-अवाप्त-महायोग-
he also, attaining the great Yoga,
महिमा भार्गव-उत्तम:
the glory, of the Bhrigus' the scion,
विचरति-अधुना-अपि-अद्धा
goes about today also clearly
हरौ-एकान्तताम् गत:
in Shree Hari exclusively devoted
He, sage Maarkandeya, the scion of the Bhrigus', having attained the glory of the great Yoga of Self-Realization, clearly, goes about the world, today also, exclusively devoted to Shree Hari.
अनुवर्णितमेतत्ते मार्कण्डेयस्य धीमत: ।
अनुभूतं भगवतो मायावैभवमद्भुतम् ॥४०॥
अनुवर्णितम्-एतत्-ते
is narrated to you,
मार्कण्डेयस्य धीमत:
of Maarkandeya, the wise,
अनुभूतम् भगवत:
experience of The Lord's
माया-वैभवम्-अद्भुतम्
Maayaa's glory wonderful
This wonderful glory of The Maayaa of The Lord, as experienced by the wise Maarkandeya, has been narrated to you.
एतत् केचिदविद्वांसो मायासंसृतिमात्मन: ।
अनाद्यावर्तितं नृणां कादाचित्कं प्रचक्षते ॥४१॥
एतत् केचित्-अविद्वांस:
this, some not learned,
माया-संसृतिम्-आत्मन:
of Maayaa's evolution of The Self,
अनादि-आवर्तितम् नृणाम्
is beginingless, repeated of men,
कादाचित्कम् प्रचक्षते
not often happens, say
Some people, who do not know of this evolution of men, which is beginingless and is repeated, say that it happens only sometimes.
य एवमेतद् भृगुवर्य वर्णितं रथाङ्गपाणेरनुभावभावितम् ।
संश्रावयेत् संशृणुयादु तावुभौ तयोर्न कर्माशयसंसृतिर्भवेत् ॥४२॥
य: एवम्-एतत् भृगु-वर्य
whoever, thus, this, O of Bhrigu's foremost!
वर्णितम् रथ-अङ्ग-पाणे:-
described, of the wheel in hand Holder's
अनुभाव-भावितम्
glory extensive
संश्रावयेत् संशृणुयात्-उ
narrates, hears, definitely,
तौ-उभौ तयो:-न
they both, of them does not
कर्म-आशय-संसृति:-
of Karmas' latencies brought about transmigration
भवेत्
happens
O Jewel of the Bhrigus! Thus, who-so-ever describes the extensive glory of The Disc wielder, Lord Vishnu, (the cycle of Time Controller), narrates, hears, of the sage, of both of them, definitely, the transmigration brought about by the latencies of the Karmas, do not take place.
इति श्रीमद्भागवते महापुराणे पारहहंस्यां संहितायां द्वादशस्कन्धे दशम: अध्याय: ॥१०॥
Thus ends the tenth discourse in Book Twelve of the great and glorious Bhaagavata Puraana.
